| We start a chart and DD does chores to earn her Disney spending money. Last year we didn't start it in enough time, so she only earned about $25 on her own...I made it an even $40 (she was 5-1/2 then). When we got there....we didn't make her pay for her Mickey ears and though she bought her own autograph book...she filled it up (she picked the one that also holds pics, so it only holds about 14 autographs I think), we did buy the second one. Oh and we bought her a light up thing for during the parade.....total impulse purchase cause I normally NEVER buy that stuff...she caught be in a good mood (which isn't hard to do in Disney!!) I'd say all in all, it was about $70. Oh wait....we bought sweatshirts for everyone......another $30 for DD......yikes $100! But we do not do sweatshirts and ears every time. (we went a little crazy on souvenirs that trip...it was for our 10th anniversary!) DS was 9 months that trip...he got ears, some Star Wars bath toys, a stuffed Tigger and a sweatshirt...maybe $50 ish.

| Last semester, to motivate my dd (12) with her grades--we offered her $5 for every A with the grading period--B's got nothing and C's lost her $5. She is fully capable of A's....but was slacking off. She earned $70 that way--she also has been saving money from her allowance and such--she will have about $100--and I have promised to pay for shirts for all of us. Ds (6) will have some allowance money (but doesn't do alot) and because he was in kindergarten last year--and didn't get grades that I could do that with--we will probably find way for him to "make" that money as well--all told he'll probably end up with $50--but I at least want him to feel like he earned most of it. Normally I don't pay for grades..a.nd I specifically told dd she had to save that money for disney. I'm not sure where she will spend most of her money--but i'm guessing ds will spend most of his on legos.

| My daughter will have about $100 (in Disney Dollars) by the time we go in December. We are giving her Disney Dollars as rewards for good behaviour, doing jobs around the house, good school reports etc. We haven't got a "formal structure" in place for what is rewarded, or how much a particular behaviour gets, but the spontaneous way we give the rewards has been encouraging good "all round" behaviours. Basically she doesn't know when she's going to be rewarded, so she tries to be good all of the time, just in case! We purchased the Disney Dollars during our last visit (we can't get them in the UK) so will be rationing them out to last until December.

| My kids have been saving their allowance since we told them about the trip. The 6 yo will have about $100, but when offered the option, she chose to apply half of it to a trip to BBB. $50 will be enough for her. Ds has about $120, and has some birthday money coming from Nana, but he's been dying to get to the Lego store, which eats it up quickly. Not really souveniers, but his choice. I really like them having a budget, b/c it makes them think about every "gimme". We are pretty slack with the details, and we hold the money, b/c we give them straight exchange on the Canadian dollar (wish I could get that deal!) and don't make them mess with the concept of sales tax.

| To get DS (he's 8) to save, we told him we would match what he saved. I think he managed to save $60, so he had $120. He was also allowed to keep any $ he came home with and he came home with a significant amount. He was much more frugal with his money than he would have been with ours!

| For our last trip we were o/seas for almost 5weeks. My kids (DS12, DD9, DS3) earnt their pocket money to use in LA, WDW and Vegas. Friends/family gave generously for birthdays/christmas and the kids were paid in Disney dollars from us for playing fairly, doing chores and helping others. They did earn Australian $$ which we swapped for US$ prior to the trip. All up the older kids had $200 (some Disney $, some US cash) the youngest one had about $100 cash, no Dis$. We paid for food, tickets, food treats and special photos etc. The kids were responsible for paying for anything more. Eg T-shirts, toys, mickey ears and other Disney stuff. They scored extra Disney dollars for each day of our LA part of the tour for good behaviour (we had an excess of D$...) Both the older kids saved most of their money for a trip to Walmart and the outlet stores which are always a huge hit. And even though we stayed longer in Vegas than first planned they both came home with $50-$60 dollars. The youngest got a few toys and T-shirts from the disney store in LA so didn't really NEED anything in WDW. His money went into mummy and daddy's funds. Needless to say mum and dad spent it all-lol. PS We had been planning this grand gathering for over a year, hence why the kids ended up with $$$. If we were just going to WDW for 10 days then home again there is no way we would allow them to spend so much.

| Wow! Here I was thinking that $50 for each kid would be enough. We have two 17 year old girls (one first trip, one 4th trip) and a 6 year old boy (first trip AND birthday). I am thinking of footing the bill for sweatshirts or hoodies for each of them and figured on $50 each for whatever else they want. Now I am rethinking my budget on this one! Thanks! |

| My kids spend their own money for souveniers. They earn money each year for report cards. The older three end up with more than enough for souveniers, and only spend a portion ($50 or a little more on souveniers) and save the rest. They are 12, 10, and 8. My 6 yr old only had letter grades last year (S - satisfactory, ect, ect). So I just "gave" him $25 for his report card. My 3 yr old doesn't have report cards, so he gets no $$. But I will buy him 1 or 2 items for souveniers while there. Bottom line- $50 is plenty for a trip in my opinion.

| My kids save up for their Disney money. They tend to "find" all the loose change in the house and whatever they don't have to put in the bank from birthday/holiday money (they have to save 10% of whatever money they receive as a gift) plus most of their allowances. When we went last year, after saving for two years, they had enough to pool all of their money and divide it 3 ways so DD, DS and DNiece could each have $150. When we got to the resort, we put the money on 3 Disney Gift Cards and bought them each a little money case that went around their necks. They all had a blast spending their money...bought things for each other, for themselves and for folks at home. It was nice for me to see my kids share with their cousin ans each other...without being prompted. DS had the idea, discussed it with DD and they told me that was what they wanted to do! |
