New device for planes

A friend forwarded this site to me...it's her relative or someone she knows who is one of the inventors.

Welcome to Flyebaby.com!

It's an interesting device. My son is way too big to use it on a plane...but it's neat how it straps onto a chair to use instead of a high chair or booster seat.

Please note the safety warning that comes with this device:
Quote:
not to be used during take-off, taxi landing, or turbulance (sic)
This is not an approved child safety restraint (but then, a lap-carried infant is not ever in a safety restraint), so please don't mistake it for one.

Jennifer and I advocate purchasing a separate airline seat for infants, and keeping the child in an approved child safety restraint. We never had problems interacting with Alexander when he was in his safety seat, we had no problems changing him, and we knew that he would be secure in the event of unexpected turbulence. This device, unfortunately, is not a safety restraint, but the presence of the shoulder straps makes it look like one.

I hope that someday the FAA changes its policy to require that all infants be kept in an approved child safety restraint. The "logic" they use in permitting lap-carrying just doesn't hold water in my book. (flying is statistically safer than driving, and they don't want the added cost of a seat for an infant to encourage families to drive instead of fly).

Meantime, lap carrying vs. safety seat is your personal decision. Please give it very careful consideration.

Well said!!!!!!!!!!!!

IMHO I might've used the device on the ground with a chair but DD is to heavy
now. DD has always and will always be in a carseat while in the air until she is
too heavy for one.

Not trying to open a debate on lap child vs. buying a seat for your baby....just sharing something for the parents who choose to hold their baby on their lap.

Thumbs up great gift idea!

Sarh7, Thanks for posting this -- I read the advisories -- I just ordered one for a friend expecting a baby very soon.......even though they do not travel much I think it is an excellent and very portable 'chair' to take to restaurants -- friends' homes, vacation, etc -- very nifty -- and congrats to the inventors!
