I just got this email from my dd's teacher (she's six, in gr 1 in a 1/2 split class).

Thank-you for your letter regarding your vacation. I
usually ask students to read every day and to write about their experiences while on holiday. Your ideas [working on an Epcot passport] also sound like fun. There will be work for B to catch up on when she returns (language arts and math). I can work with her on most of it and I will send the remaining activities home. It is a good time of year to go as it won't be as crowded or hot. I hope you all enjoy your trip. It is a magical place.

Isn't that lovely? Not only is she supportive and pleasant, sounds like she "gets" it. I love our school.

I stopped in the office following the last post about schools denying an approved leave. They said just to tell the teachers ahead of time. I don't need to submit a letter or anything. There's a possibility that my oldest may get assignments to do.
I was impressed by how easy going they were too..

That's great! You are lucky. I am sending a letter/email to DD's teacher (she's also 6 and in the 1st grade) this week regarding our upcoming trip. Hopefully she will be just as understanding, but I will have to wait and see. Congrats and enjoy your upcoming vacation!!!

I probably wouldn't have bothered with the letter if it had been later in the year...we went back Sept 3, and the teachers don't know me yet, nor I them. I just wanted them to know I took our responsibilities seriously, if that makes sense. Seems a bit flaky to take the kids out so close to summer vacation, so I wanted to make it clear I do believe what they do is important, and I don't want to make their jobs more difficult.

Glad to hear your school is good to work with also. It makes such a difference!

Makes total sense! Good for you.

My school is understanding and I respect their need for structure and "rules." I play and plan within those rules and we've always maintained a great relationship. I wish the same experience for everyone.

I received a very similar response from dd's teacher...makes everything so much easier!! And my dd is also 6 and in 1st grade!!
