Unhappy Fantasmic Dessert Quandry

My daughter and I are scheduled for a trip to DL in late June and we had already requested to order Fantasmic Dessert seating on the balcony for the first show of the evening. (You can place these requests ahead of time through Disney Vacation Planning if you have reservations at one of the Disney hotels. They will attempt to get these tickets for you 30 days before your requested date when the phone lines open to the general public. They then call you later that day and tell you if they were able to get these tickets for you; they usually can if you are the first ones they have a request from for that date.)

Well I just received a call from Disney Vacation Planning yesterday, and they told me that they are no longer offering Fantasmic Dessert on the balcony. She wanted to know if I still wanted to purchase the tickets for the "premium" seating in front of POTC. When I asked how long it would be before they offered the seating on the balcony again, she replied that they were suspending this seating "indefinitely." I then asked her how the premium seating worked, and she said that this section holds 50 people, and they are provided with a boxed dessert and that most people show up an hour before they allow seating in this area, even though you are guaranteed a seat, because it is first come, first seated. She also suggested we may want to come earlier if we wanted a decent view. The price is still $59 per ticket for anyone over 10 years.

Does anyone know why they suspended the viewing of Fantasmic from the Disney balcony? What would you do? I'm not sure I want to pay the $118 to have a boxed dessert and wait in line almost as long for a viewing spot as I would without paying to see Fantasmic. My daughter is 14. If you wouldn't buy these tickets, what would you do instead? I have to make a decision within the next few days in order to cancel my request before they are purchased.

Many thanks

Is there any way you could see the second showing? It's generally walk right up to the best "free" viewing as soon as the first showing clears out. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the cost and you'd still have a great spot.

I agree with Tink! If there is a second showing, bring a small lap blanket and spread it out for the two of you. One of you can go get dessert and drinks before the show starts, and you can save at least $100.
That is our plan, since they are not doing the balcony, now. We're saving $300, there's six of us. At least, I keep telling myself it's the silver lining. I'm kind of bummed, but I'll be at Disneyland, so, who cares?

Thanks for the perspective. This is kind of what we have decided to do.

Now what to spend the freed-up $100 on?

We had good seating through the non-balcony seating but the desserts were not good at all. Definately a good choice to grab your favorite dessert and scope out a spot. If you eat dinner while watching, the bread bowls in New Orleans square are great.

To spend your freed-up $100 have you considered the "Walk In Walt's Footsteps" tour. It is amazing!!!

I agree - grab something you actually WANT to eat and find a spot. Save the money and spend on something else FUN!
