I know you said you loathe Logan, but if you are really looking to find the cheapest airfare and a direct flight, it will be hard pressed to beat Jetblue out of Logan with nonstop to Long Beach.
I just looked into JetBlue (one way) out of Logan and there were no non-stops to Long Beach. All had stops somewhere and for the dates I put in (the same dates I put in at Southwest) the fares were more expensive and only 1 bag flies free so all around it would cost me A LOT more money to fly JetBlue. $100 additonal each ticket plus 35 for each bag over 3 and we're looking at an extra $405 to fly Jetblue out of Logan versus Southwest out of Providence.
Thanks anyway

Ah, I know sometimes dates can be tricky. Especially as various airlines have different specials at different times for different days of the week. 3 weeks ago I checked Jetblue for December fares and it was $89 each way (and this is between SLC and Long Beach). Well, I checked again a week later and they had a fare sale, dropping the one way fare down to $69 each way (cha-ching!), so I jumped on it. And I do see what you are talking about -- the nonstop doesn't show up very often in their schedule. Sorry about that!

Hey, don't apologize. I've BTDT giving people info and when they go to check they wondered what the heck I was talking about. With airlines being the way they are, nothing surprises me too much but I definitely see where you were coming from with your info.

Try to avoid PHX airport to change planes and layovers... PHX has a crappy luck of getting out on time. Most of the planes you connect with are coming from other east coast locations... if weather is bad in FL and the plane that you take off to SNA or LAX is the FL plane - good luck!..
Oh goody. I just found out the flight our Robotics team is taking to SNA has a connection in PHX.
Darlene, if it looks like you might be arriving late on the first leg of a flight, the next flight will know and will try to wait as long as possible for you to make the connection.
I hate to be a DebbieDowner, but in all the years I've flown, I've NEVER had an airline hold a flight when my connecting flight was late. I've run through more airports than I care to count.
I usually allow an hour if I have to change planes, even if that means I pick a different flight combo than what the airline recommends.

It's definitely NOT something to count on, but I remember being on flights that kept the doors open for a few minutes after our take off time to allow some passengers to get on who were on a late earlier flight. It hasn't happened to me in recent years, so maybe they've changed that.

With all your concerns...I would fly Southwest with a connection in Las Vegas. It's a long first leg, but there are many flights into and out of CA airports if you do experience a flight delay. If you can book far enough in advance you should be able to get a decent fare, but even if you don't...bags fly free!
