What else would you see...........Update in last post We'll be headed out to California next February. So far our plans include: Friday - Fly in from East Coast. Staying out near Ontario for 2 nights. Saturday - trying to figure out what to do this day Sunday - NASCAR race in Fontana then moving to hotel near Universal Monday - Universal and City Walk Tuesday - Starline Tours Grand Tour of LA which includes The Hollywood Bowl, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Walk of Fame, Kodak Center, Paramount Studios, La Brea Tar Pits, Rodeo Drive, Olvera Street, and Chinatown. This will take until 2:30 pm then we are moving down to Anaheim Tuesday night - check into the Grand Californian Wed - Sat - Girl's DL meet - probably doing DL most days - one day trying for TV taping tickets Sun - go home - very, very tired So my question is what do you think we are missing out on from the area? I had hear Palm Springs was worth a visit but can't find much more than the aerial tram out there. Didn't know if it was worth the hour each way just for that? Any ideas for what we could do that Saturday?? There will be 3 of us and we have a rental car.

Re: What else would you see........... If you don't mind driving, I'd go to San Diego, as that's a beautiful city. It's about 90 minutes drive away and we loved it there. Otherwise, another option would be to visit one of the many beaches around Los Angeles - maybe Long Beach or Santa Monica? I also thought of visiting Palm Springs on our recent visit and couldn't find out much more about it than you.

Re: What else would you see........... If I was going to be able to afford to go for a few extra days, I WOULD say "you want to meet me in San Diego" . . . but alas, I can not afford a few extra days . . . but you could still go!

Re: What else would you see........... WB also has a studio tour (it's right next to Universal) - the famous WB watertower is clearly visible from some parts of Universal. reportedly so is Disney's, but I never saw it. i highly recommend the VIP tour at Universal BTW. I'm sure you're aware of them, but for tv tickets, make sure you monitor: http://www.tvtix.com http://www.audiencesunlimited.com i think paramount handles its own taping (pretty sure it's paramount). they have a hotline that's updated weekly that you need to call for info. it used to be (and probably still is), you can get tickets to the tonight show at universal somehow. i believe they'll also transport you. the only problem with that is late night talk shows usually tape around 5 pm and require you to be sitting in the audience much earlier, so it will take a lot of time from the park.

Re: What else would you see........... I always feel the need to spend some time at the ocean. From Ontario, any place between Malibu & Dana Point would be feasible. Or just head over to the PCH and explore.

Re: What else would you see........... Even though it'd be easier when you're in LA, I think LaBrea Tarpits is uniquely SoCalish...I'd also recommend checking out the ocean in some way...beach, pier, nice seafood dinner, walk at sunset, something like that. Or the Queen Mary, that's cool too. Whale watching is another option that's always fun, I think end of Feb. should see the migration starting, but I don't remember exactly. Have fun! Palm Springs is good for golf and sunning, etc. You could go visit my cousin, that's what I always do! I'll ask her for some suggestions near the Ontario area. I'm sure I'm forgeting something. Just thought of Catalina Island too...It's a nice day trip.

Re: What else would you see........... Well, I can't recommend anything from personal experience since I have never been. BUT, we are going in October and are definitely planning a trip to the beach...if nothing else than to say we've seen the Pacific Ocean. We are also planning two day trips to San Diego. I had thought we'd spend just one day there, but there is just too much to see. The zoo is a must! I love going to the National Zoo in DC, and I just know we are going to love the San Diego Zoo, too. We are also visiting Sea World and possibly the Old World Theatre if a good show is there. And, there is a ton to see in Balboa Park. Just my 2-cents. Laura

(sorry to Crystal for my hijacking! ) Not sure exactly when your dates are, but October 1st will be the last day at the Old Globe for the summer Shakespeare plays . . . HOWEVER . . . through the end of the month of October, you will be able to see George Gershwin Alone in the main Old Globe Theater or Pig Farm on the (smaller) Old Globe Cassius Carter Center Stage. If you really want to see a show and there isn't anything at the Old Globe that interests you, keep an eye on the Starlight Bowl. They haven't released their schedule past mid-September yet, but should in the next month or two. The San Diego Junior Theater is performing Disney's Aladdin from Oct. 27-Nov. 12th!!!! We went to a lot of Junior Theater plays when I was a kid . . . it was fun watching kids my age in plays! Also, something else that is cute (I think, anyways) is the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater. The older kids might not like it, but I do, even as an adult! So . . . um . . . I was SO hoping my husband could get orders to San Diego this time around so I could get a job as a tour guide or San Diego tour and travel specialist! I think I could make a living out of it! (darn Navy . . . ) |

Re: What else would you see........... Thanks for all the info, Sarah! Yes, we are knee-deep into theatre. I just finished stage managing a show here. We will be in CA October 29 - November 6. I will definitely keep a lookout for the different shows. Too bad we'll miss Shakespeare. Oh well. Can't have everything. Thanks again! Laura

Re: What else would you see........... Well, looks like my DH, Terri and I have decided that we will fly into San Diego and spend the days before the race there. And we even managed to snag ourselves a private tour guide - right Sarah??
