Can you wear costumes?

We are in the process of planning our first trip to disneyland. My 6 year old has watched the video and went tot he website. She has seen little girls dressed up as disney princess's and wants to do that. I was hoping someone had some thoughts on this. The costumes don't look very comfortable and I thought she would ruin them over the day, but it helped add to the 'magic', I would probably cave.
Please share any experiences.

Yes, children are allowed to wear costumes and often do, especially the young ladies when meeting their favorite princesses. If she would like to wear her costume, I say let her. I would also suggest bringing a change of clothing, when & if she decides she's had enough of her princess attire!

HOpe this helps!!

Go ahead and let her dress up!! She is definatly allowed to dress like a princess, you will see lots of girls in Princess dresses. I think the only time it is a problem is if it is an older teen or adult, that is not allowed on a regular day. I believe it is allowed for adults during MNSSHP.

Do you think long skirts would be dangerous at all on the rides?

I was not aware that older teens/adults weren't allowed to dress up. I guess it makes sense. It would be confusing, obviously. I guess I've never questioned this because I assumed that no adult would have enough self-confidence to bust out an Ariel costume and swim their way up Main Street USA.
It was also allowed for adults during the Pirate and Princess party, as scillarella can attest to.

And to answer your question Bobby, I'd say 1/3 of the little girls wear costumes to the parks. As far as the long skirts, I don't think you really have anything to worry about. CM's make sure everything is tucked into place before starting the rides. And I doubt your princesses' costume is going to be the huge ballgown you're envisioning.

Thanks you so much!!
any other suggestions for a newbie to make the trip more magical? We are having breakfast with minnie and friends one day and then at california adventure park lunch with ariel and friends another day. Spending one day at the san diego zoo, universal studios, seaworld and 2 1/2 days at disney.

When I was around 6 or 7 I wore a Snow White's princess dress we went to DL several times that year. Disneyland employs many teens and adults.
CMs are the only ones allowed in costume, safety reasons.

I would suggest finding some princess tennis shoes/sandals for walking however. I saw more than one Mommy and/or daddy carrying their little princesses due to sore tootsies!
