WOW, it's a toss up really! I have been to the DLR on the 4th of July a couple of times and experienced chilly weather, but also have had HOT weather. August is much of the same!

Generally, the weather is a little more predictable later in the summer, but like Debi said, it's a toss up.

Heatwise, they are both hot! Hot and humid (at least for this desert rat!), though the humidity can't compare to FL. But, there's always a chance in CA for the nights to be chilly.

In terms of deciding when to go, you're talking about very little difference in average temperatures (according to weather.com, the avgs are 84 for July and 86 for Aug).

Southern CA weather has been pretty unpredictable this year, so it's hard to say. One day my mom tells me it's 100 degrees, the next day it's 75 and raining. If I had to choose I'd probably pick August, because of crowds, not weather. Some people will be wrapping up and getting ready to go back to school. July is still in the middle of summer and might be worse. Whatever you choose, good luck!

Instead of worrying about the heat, I would worry about the crowds. I know you can look somewhere about the crowd level from July to August. Look at that, that would be my decision if you can make it.

If it's any indication of crowds, the Southern California annual pass ends its blackout days in mid August, so Disney expects crowds to be lower then. Keep in mind, though, that this will mean more locals will be there, especially in the evening...me included!

I agree, it's a toss up weather wise. late August slows down some with non-pass holder crowds. we're one of the SoCal passholders that are blocked out until then. so while non-passholders crowds may drop some, you'll get more of the SoCal locals coming in for their fix after a very long summer blockout. We'll be there a bunch in August. if crowds get overwhelming, we always pop over to DCA - shorter lines, less people and more elbow room.

Our summer visit to DLR was during the middle two weeks in July and the heat and humidity were terrible - just as bad if not worse than what we've experienced during the summer at WDW. Since the crowds are bound to be a little smaller in August once a lot of the schools are back in session, I would opt for late August.

Hey, Heather, I know what you mean. I grew up in southern Cal and thought of it as dry. We moved to Florida and then to Las Vegas. Thinking I had left humidity behind, I was surprised to feel humidity at DLR. LOL! Once you live in the desert, I guess most places feel humid.

Since the weather will probably be similar in July and August, you might want to look at crowd levels. I would not recommend the 4th of July or the 3rd week in August.

or the 3rd week in August.
Well that's random!
I would guess because of either A) the last week before school goes back or B) when AP holders get to go again w/o blackout dates?

I think it's A) - at least, that's what I've heard.

I competely agree with the toss up on the weather.
I would lean toward very late August for the crowds.

Either are going to be yucky, heatwise. I think if I were you, I would take the other's good advice and base my decision on crowd levels to pick a time between these two months. Any chance you are able to go in late Feb, instead? Crowds and weather are fantastic that time of year!
