Columbus Day

Can anyone tell me how busy the Columbus Day weekend will be? Will one park be better than the other on any given day? We arrive Sunday afternoon and leave Wednesday night.

Is Colubus Day a state holiday in CA? It isn't in NV, anymore (not since MLK Jr day was added when I was in grade school).

However, Halloween IS a holiday for us (OK, not really anymore, but NV Day is on Halloween and we USED to have a state holiday on Oct 31, now it's the last Friday of the month).

Columbus Day falls on a Monday, making for a three day weekend, so, I would assume it will be busier than usual. However, not all states observe Columbus Day anymore, so I would check to see if it is observed in California. If they do, I would count on a busier than usual weekend.

Honestly, I've found it to be hit and miss as to who gets the day off in California. That being said, it IS a 3 day weekend, and whether or not California gets it off, there are plenty of people from other states who do, so the Parks do get busier than usual. Almost always, DCA will be less busy. And, because the Parks are right next to each other, it's so easy to park hop when one or the other gets busy.

We'll be there during the same time period....even if it's more crowded for Columbus Day, it can't be as bad as Easter or Christmas! (I hope! )

Yeah a crowded day in Disneyland is still a good day - right?

When will they release the park hours?

It is a state holiday (but the county I worked for never observed it). I checked LA Unified School Dist and they do NOT observe it.

It is hit and miss.... but will have some additional attendance for those who are out.

It may not be state holiday for us in NV, but the kids in Pahrump have it off of school, followed by a Staff Inservice day, giving the kids a 4 day weekend. Thus making it the perfect weekend for us to go and exactly what we are doing. Technically we won't be at the parks on Columbus Day, but arriving that day and leaving on the 16th which is National Boss Day, FYI.

Discoverer's Day (Columbus Day) is a federal holiday so I'm anticipating a crowded park that weekend!

It's very busy that weekend. Not only because of Columbus day, but in falls in the Halloween time celebration, so many people do make the trek for the three day weekend to see the Halloween decor. I know that the park closed last year on Labor Day weekend due to the parks meeting capacity, but I can't remember if the park closed over Columbus Day weekend. It was VERY crowded...but last year the Gay Days meet and the CHOC walk were also happening that weekend...this year each of those events will be held on other weekends.

They seriously closed? I don't think I've ever heard of that before! Of course once your in, you don't pay attention to the gates. Do they close according to ticket sales or actually park entry?

What if you had a park hopper ticket and couldn't park hop? Suppose that's ever happened?

I'm curious too...what if you paid all that money for a park hopper ticket in advance and you can't get into the park because it's at capacity. Do you get some sort of money back or something? Is it just tough luck?
