How many character meals is too many?

I have no idea if my mom wants to even go to any character meals, but I really want to. And I'm sure my kids will love it! But is there such a thing as too many? Or should I try to get in for as much as I can?

Last Sept. we went to as many as the kids were interested in...and it saved us a ton of time getting autographs in the parks. Of course we were on free dining!! This year we are going to 3...Crystal Palace, Donald's Safari breakfast and Chef Mickey's. We really enjoyed them.

We usually do 3 or 4 on a 8 day trip. We also mix it up by doing one or two at breakfast and then one or two for dinner.

I don't think there's such a thing as too many. On our three day stay at Disneyland last year, we packed two in and the previous trip, which was four days, I think we did two or three.

No such thing as too many for us! We love them! We like getting autographs and pics this way instead of watiing in lines for them. We try to book one for each day of our stay ( only one TS a day though).
This year we are doing 4 ( I count Remy at Chefs)
CM
CP
Tusker Breakfast safari
Chef De France w/ Remy
We opted for Sci Fi this time instead of GG other wise we would be doing one each day.

That is interesting but this is about Character Dining out here at Disneyland California and we don't have any of those you spoke of. We have however been to those our last trip to 'the world' and agree they are real nice.

But we don't have any of those places out here at Disneyland. Also we do not have a dining plan like that back at WDW.

It really does save time and it's not like you are comprimising on food quality. There is something for everyone usually. It really depends on how much of your park time you want to spend at a restaurant. We tend to enjoy the break. Last trip we went to Goofy's Kitchen 3 times in addition to the Princess lunch and Lilo & Stitch Breakfast.

We don't have any children but as an adult I can truthfully say that there is no such thing as TOO many character meals. We only have 5 different venues here at Disneyland that has character meals anyway and they are:

Disneyland Hotel - Goofy's Kitchen - Goofy and his Friends
Paradise Pier Hotel - PCH Grill - Lilo and Stitch
Grand Californian - Storytellers Cafe - Chip 'n Dale
California Adventure - Ariel's Grotto - Ariel and her Princess friends
Disneyland - Plaze Inn - Minnie and her Friends.

They are all great for watching the reactions of small children when these characters come out to greet them and the food at each of these venues is equally as good.

We just do 1 a week. Since we're not huge on character interaction I don't see the need to spend more $ basically just to eat. DS does enjoy it though.

Doesn't the new Celebration BBQ have characters? I know there's a show, but is it more like Mickey's Backyard BBQ at WDW, where there's very little character interaction, or is it more like a traditional character meal? And I've heard good things about the food at the BBQ....

I'm just wondering how they're going to work Santa when we visit in Dec!

Heather, there are only two, maybe three characters at the BBQ. Woody and Jessie that I can remember and I think 'the' horse' too but can't swear to that one. It will be interesting to see what they do with the BBQ come the holidays too.

Thanks for all of the replies! I'm hoping to get at least 3 in during my stay, if not 4. I'll go by myself if necessary

At Disneyland Resort, I have only done 2 - Ariel's Grotto in DCA, and Goofy's Kitchen, in the Disneyland Hotel.

My DD doesn't like to be overloaded with character meals anymore, but it is definitely the way to see characters! We normally are at Disneyland for two days, so we will do one character meal in that time. Even though they are a little more expensive, I feel like the positives wayyyy outweigh the negatives.

-you are able to take a break from the parks, and sit and relax
-you and your group enjoy a nice meal
-your group is able to have one on one time with characters, without fighting off the hordes of crowds who are trying to jump in your picture

June 11, 2009 - Goofy's Kitchen

This is my DD and her friends having fun with the characters.
