Thumbs up Strollers @ Disneyland Question

Is it better to bring our own strollers, or to rent when we get there? We will have a 1-year-old and a 4-year-old. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

It is easier to use a double stroller or a stand and ride stroller. DLR strollers are not that comfortable and do not allow for laying down. If you have the Disney Visa card then you get two free. Problem is pushing two strollers in crowds can be rough.

I don't like the Disney strollers. Like mechurchlady said, they are not comfortable (hard plastic) and do not lay back. I also found that my kids couldn't just sit in them - they are low to the ground and very wide at the feet, without much depth, meaning their feet aren't much lower than their bottoms, causing their knees to stick up or they have to lean their knees to the side.

Our DS' first visit was when he was 10 months and his sister was 4. That was the only time we took 2 strollers. After that, when DD was 5, she was on her own (though she'd occasionally sit in her brother's stroller and hold him on her lap).

I would bring your own and if you are flying it would really be helpful at the
airport.

I don't have any advice, but I have information! The following is copied from an e-mail I received when I wrote to Disneyland asking about double strollers...she even told me which model they use. This e-mail was dated 7/8/09, so the information *should* be accurate!

Quote:
Thank you for your e-mail to the DISNEYLAND® Resort.

Strollers are available at two locations at the Resort. Each theme park
has a Stroller Shop available just inside the Main Entrance to the
right. Guests may rent a stroller at either location for $12.00 a day.
Double strollers are not available; however, Guests may rent two
strollers for $22.00 a day.

We feature the "City Jogger" stroller, which has a 75-pound weight
limit. The "City Jogger" features a natural recline, adjustable
seatbelts, a sunshade and basket underneath. It is collapsible so they
may be taken on the DISNEYLAND® Railroad.

Guests are welcome to take their rented stroller while traveling between
DISNEYLAND® Park and DISNEY'S CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE® Park; however, they
may not be taken on the DISNEYLAND® Monorail or to the DOWNTOWN DISNEY®
District.

Guests are welcome to bring their personal strollers to the DISNEYLAND®
Resort. When visiting our attractions, please be aware of signage nearby
for appropriate stroller parking. Please note, personal wagons are not
permitted on DISNEYLAND® Resort property.

Again, thank you for taking the time to write. We hope you will have the
opportunity to visit the DISNEYLAND® Resort soon and trust your visit
will be pleasant in all regards.

I saw last time kids whose legs were dangling on the sides as there is a tiny ledge for putting feet and kids tend to miss that spot when sleepy or restless. There is not tray and it is a jogging stroller which are meant for short term use. The plastic tends to trap heat and there is not fluffy padding to absorb heat. Some disabled kids do how ever prefer the enclosed feeling of the jogging strollers but for most kids thy are not comfty.

There are places in Disneyworld and Disneyland area that rent strollers and other child related items off site. I do not have one off hand but in Disneyland there are several out there.

We do not have any children so have no need to rent strollers but I have heard many moms complain about the ones that they rented at DLR. They say thier kids hate them as they are uncomfortable but using these strollers is by far better than having to carry their kids. My suggestion is to bring your own. I must use an EVC and own my own, a 3-wheeler. I could save the effort of loading and unloading my own ECV from my Jeep and rent one of theirs but all they have are big clunky 4-wheel ECV's that takes a lot of area to turn. My 3-wheeler can turn really tight corners and is a lot more comfortable. Keep in mind the childs comfort is the main thing here. To have an unhappy child because of their stroller can and WILL cause everyone else to become unhappy.

Our daughter is 7 (turning 8 in Dec). Until our most recent visit (about 3 weeks ago) to DL, she rode in a "Jeep" 3-wheel stroller. This is an over-sized stroller with a "rear suspension." It is very comfortable and she, despite being a little long for it, can STILL lay down and crash if she chooses. We realize that she can walk the park (and did during our recent visit, so I think we can finally retire that stroller), but giving her the opportunity to ride in it when she wants definitely has helped her to conserve energy and be able to stay in the park longer. Other children her age tend to poop out much earlier and when they do, the fun pretty much ends for the whole group. So, if you have a comfy stroller your children can lay down in, use it. It's worth the inconvenience of schlepping it around. Hope this helps.

Taking cost and convienence into account, I would strongly suggest taking your own. There are no cup holders and very little storage space which is hard to access when your child is in the stoller.
