Best Disneyland Resort

We are thinking about taking a trip to DL for spring break 2010. We are DVC members and are interested in scheduling a studio or 1 bedroom at one of the resorts. Where would you suggest we stay? We love the broadwalk Villas at WDW, but I do not know anything about the resorts in California.

Also provide any recommendations on sites to see while in California. We will probably schedule a 1 week vacation.

Thanks for your assistance.

The only DVC option at Disneyland are the new Grand Californian Villas, opening next month, but there are only 50 of them, so they'll be in high demand. You can use your points to stay at the Disneyland Hotel and Paradise Pier hotels, but those will be regular hotel rooms and not studios.

As for sights to see - outside the two Disney parks, I would schedule a sightseeing tour of Los Angeles and we loved the couple of days we spent in San Diego. We were at the Hotel del Coronado on our DVC points and it was a wonderful resort.

I'm not a DVC member, so I can't comment on what hotels you can use your points at, but I've heard that the GC villas are going super fast, you better make reservations ASAP if you want to stay there. If you can't stay in a villa, then the CG itself if a beautiful place and as close as you can get with its own entrance to DCA. The DLH has a fantastic pool, but it is a ways to walk. PP is alright, but it just felt like a normal hotel. You can use the GC entrance, which is nice, as well as having purchases delivered from the park. IMHO, unless you get a really good discount to this hotel, it isn't worth the price when you can get really inexpensive hotels in the same walking distance. PP just didn't seem that magical to me and I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. I haven't done any of the LA tours, but many people rave about them, so check out the DL passporter.

We love the GC and we have even used our points to stay there before the Villas. GC is a beautiful hotel, you will not be disappointed. The DL Hotel is nice too, but a little further from the parks. The plus is being closer to the Monorail station to take into DL park. PP is an ok hotel, to be honest with you, when we stayed there years ago, we were not too impressed. :/ But, I think they remodeled it since the last time we stayed there, not too sure...It is also the farthest Disney hotel from the parks.
As DVC members, we were a little disappointed to see how high the points are at DL, since we are AP's and go a lot. Because of that, we've only used our points the one time to stay at DL.
Good luck on whichever one you choose and have a great time!

As Cheryl mentioned, the only DVC villa options are at the Grand Californian, which is a BEAUTIFUL resort.

As far as other things to do in SoCal, definitely check out the following thread as it contains links to lots of attractions in Southern California outside of Disneyland! LINKS to Southern California attractions, tours, things to do, etc. --- UPDATED 8/4/09!
