I have never used the dining plan for DLR. Here is the scoop from the Disneyland website:
Disney Dining
Your best bet is to decide if this option will serve your family well. How much do your kids eat, etc. Weigh all the options and if it suits you then go for it!

DO NOT USE THE DINING PLAN!!!!!! It is a waste of your money because it is nothing like the plans used back in "the" World. Back there they use 'points' while out here they use vouchers of different amounts. If you have a $10.00 voucher and your meal is $7.50, you have just given Disney $1.50 as they DO NOT give change back, unless they have changed policys in the last few months. This is done because there are a lot fewer places to eat out here compared to back in the World.

As far as I have seen they are still on the same old "no change given" voucher system which, IMO, is NOT worth it at all. Like Bill mentioned above, if you buy a $2.50 bottle of water and use a $5 voucher, you have just given away the other $2.50 that you spent on that voucher. So while a lot of people say "It's just like you're paying ahead for your meals." it is really more like you are paying ahead for some and losing the rest of the money.

I always tell people headed to DL that when it comes to dining there, avoid the dining vouchers and just pay for your meals like you would in the "real" world.

Yay! Congrats on the trip. As others have said, run far FAR away from the dining "plan". A friend used it and was pleased with it - but she got it for free, so it wasn't wasteful. It does not save money; it simply limits how you can use your money....

I'm glad to see these posts...I had heard that the dining plan was not great at DLR but had not done it personally. Thanks guys for sharing your opinions!

Wow this is something to think about for future trips. Hubby and I were thinking of it but thought we could eat cheaper without it. Glad we did!

The Disneyland dinning plan has no great benefit, unless you don't want to carry cash. As other people have said you are given vouchers which have a set money value. So unless you get it for free, it doesn't save you anything. If you are staying at a Disney hotel you can use your room key to charge any food purchases to your room anyway. Keep away from it. Have a great time.
