Laurie, that was my biggest concern ...

Laurie, that was my biggest concern - if I could make it work, finding the right room for us. Lenny printed off a map the other day of all the Good Neighbor hotels and their locations and I spent some time looking at that and looking at the hotels online and the only one I was happy with in terms of locations, bed sizes, room configurations etc was the HoJo's. And that's all I could keep coming back too - if I could come up with the money would I lose out on a room by waiting. So at least now, I have nothing to lose. I didn't have to pay anything for the room so if I do indeed have to cancel, then no big deal. If I do manage to pull it off, the only "big" thing I'd have to worry about is finding airfare.
Darlene there are heaps of great budgeting ideas in the forums. If you want it bad enough you will be willing to work very hard to get it - I honestly believe this!
I picked up one piece of useful budget info somewhere (maybe it was here) that you decide how much you need to save then rule up a grid on a Disney colouring in page with a number of squares equal to each $50 or $100 you need to budget. Once you have saved that $50 you colour in that square. As the page gets more colour your motivation should increase and hopefully you achieve the goal.
Whatever you decide - good luck and have fun planning!
I'm pretty sure you read about it here and the reason I say that is because I've read about it too - using a grid and then coloring in the squares. Now if only we could remember where it was.

I LOVE this idea!! I think this is exactly what i need to use for saving up for that Disney Cruise I want to take in 2 years (to celebrate our 15th!!). Thanks for sharing!!!
I really hope you get to do it! We went there for this first time this summer and had a great time. (And my Dad told me the SAME thing- that we wouldn't love it and why go when we can drive to disney world???). It's definitely worth it! I'm writing a trip report about our journey but haven't gotten to that part yet!
If you need to cancel, you must do so by 6:00 PM local hotel time on November 9, 2011 or your credit card will be charged for one night's stay.
I put in November 11, 2001 and got that answer. You would know two days before arriving if the trip was going to happen. If you failed to cancel then you would loose one day which is not that much money. This is why I say book the room now. You can guarantee you get what you want. Unlike airlines the hotels usually do not charge until a few days before arrival so I never worry about being charged.

Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.

This is a GREAT idea! This would definitely keep me motivated!

Thanks Laurie. I would know long before that 2 days in advance - and it's good to know that if I did forget to cancel, I'd only be out one night - which you're absolutely right isn't much money. And guranateeing I'd have what I want should we be able to go is ultimately what helped me decide to go ahead and book. That and like you said, only paying for one night should I be dumb and forget to cancel.
I would have done the same thing, this way you know you got a room that would all make you happy and it gives you something to work towards and as you said, if it does not work out it gives you a great heads start on your WDW 2013 trip. Keeping my fingers crossed for you....hope everything works out with this trip.
Okay Kathy - I'm placing all the blame on you. I signed up for Mousesavers, I got the email and then I went and just checked out the site out of curiousity - and I can't believe the rate for being a Mousesavers subscriber - it's even cheaper than my AAA rate. Needless to say, I just booked a room . Now it's time to hope and pray - and really hope and pray Abby doesn't find out as she'd think it's a definite that we're going.
I fully accept the blame Congrats on booking the room!!! on saving money! When I was looking for airfare to Phoenix (I'm going to my sister's and then driving to Disneyland, only 6 hrs!) a friend of mine told me to check out bookit.com. I was able to find a ticket for $278 round trip! Which is an awesome price since when I went in June, I paid $500. And I've been disappointed in SW lately. Their fares have been more expensive than other airlines. And here is a money saving tip for you. I was listening to a Disney podcast about saving money, and one of their suggestions was to set up a savings account and every week, pick an amount of money to put in there. So far I've been doing it for a month and have put $25 each week and it's amazing how fast the savings are growing!
Location: Texas Baby!!!! Where Else would anyone wana live

Hope everything works out for you Darlene. I just booked for next year at AoA in WDW. I was actually hoping for a deluxe resort, but Rae said, "what they hay, we are only showering and sleeping there, besides, they are new rooms". Bless her soul. Save Save Save, cutting costs and trimming away here and there always helps, especially in this economy. All the best to you and your family

We're going next august, we haven't booked anything yet (because we dont have solid dates yet). I budget at least 100 dollars a month for the vacay fund. I start at least a year out.
just a thought, how about buying a Disney gift card every time you go grocery shopping. I do that before all my Disney trips and use them or food and even if you can't make DL you would be able to use them on your next WDW.

I've thought of that Olive but then my "reasonable" side kicks in that if I need the money for something else, I can't access it. I do like Toni - I **try** to budget every month for vacations and I put the money in it's own savings account marked not vacation, but Disney . That way any and all interest (what little we get nowadays ) helps to make the Disney money grow and like I said, if something comes up where I need to get money from somewhere, unfortunately that means my Disney fund will suffer - but normally it gets pulled from there as an absolute last resort.
I would have booked also.... As long as it's fully refundable you have nothing to lose! I've twice booked for WDW w/out knowing 100% if it would work out.... The first time I ended up calling and changing the ressie for another year out as it just wasn't in the cards, the second time we went.
Like I said, as long as it's fully refundable you have nothing to lose; and if it does work out your bases are covered so your not scrambling for last minute accomodations....

In a way, that's the "best" part - since we wouldn't be staying on Disney property, I didn't have to put anything down except my credit card number. And if by some chance I forget to call and cancel (and I really doubt that will happen) , I'll only be charged one night.
