iPhone apps

Wasn't really sure where to post this, but since it'll be part of my planning...

September marks the end of my cell phone contract. (I share with my son.) I will admit I am behind the times with it comes to cell phones. If I can call and text, it's generally good enough for me. Not so much for my teenage son. So, while I don't mind continuing on with the phone I have, DS, wants an upgrade to an iPhone or Android.

Of course, will have to see what the plans are and such, but if we do get him the phone he wants, I'm wondering about DLR apps. Has anyone used them? Are they worth it? What's your fave & why? If DS gets his phone, we'll be putting it to use at Disney!

I have an android phone, and I use only a few free Disney apps. I have the Lines app by Tour Plans. There's one for DLR and one for WDW.

There's also the Disney Parks Mobile Magic app that is free but might only be available to Verizon users...I'm not positive about that.

Both are fine if you're interested in knowing approximately how long lines are or if you want to know what characters might be available and when. I'm sure the paid versions offer more (such as dining information), but for basic use, the free versions are sufficient for me.

Didn't know there were free apps.

I can't imagine it would be different in Canada, but there are free versions and paid versions, and the ones I have are the free versions. Maybe someone who has the paid versions will chime in on whether they found it worth the cost. I don't use mine much since I'm lucky to go to DLR all the time and know it fairly well. I didn't have a smartphone when I went to WDW in 2009, so I didn't have any apps to try out. I found stuff the old fashioned way...using the maps and the times guide!

DS really wants the app(s) & free is good! Still, I'd like to know if the paid versions are worth it.

I have an iPhone and have a dozen or so Disney related apps. I also have lines from touring plans, Disney parks mobile magic from Verizon (free), a few free from undercover tourist as well as there paid one. I have mouse memo, a Disney gift card app to check balances on our trip. I really want the hidden Mickey one but won't pay that much for an app. I also paid for tapatalk so I can read/post up here while on trips

Also want to mention that the Disney Parks Mobile magic is available for Sprint/AT&T or Verizon- but Verizon has some extra stuff.

Disney released a new app last week called My Disney Experience. It is eventually supposed to release the Disney Mobile Magic app.
‘My Disney Experience’ app to replace ‘Mobile Magic’ as Disney parks’ official app

I also bought the Tapatalk app so I can post/reply to posts on the passporter forums from my phone easily. I also just downloaded the Disboards app (it's not as friendly as here but is also a good resource to learn about disney)

That article says the My Disney Experience app will be released next month but it's already available.

Mobile Magic

We loved the Mobile Magic App last summer at WDW. We could find out fast pass return times, wait times, character times, etc. as soon as we got into each park. (we don't have Verizon and it still worked great.)
I hope it works just as well at DLR!

I had a very good experience with touringplans.com Lines app on my aging iPhone3 this summer at CA Adventure. We managed to avoid awful lines even on a crowded day.
