Best Hotels Around Disneyland? Looking at going to Disneyland instead of the World next summer. It will be our 1st time. What are some of the best hotels, and how are the Disney hotels?

Re: Best Hotels Around Disneyland? Hey big kid! You should check the archives on this page, because you'll find a lot of recommendations for Anaheim area hotels. The first thing to decide is if you want to stay in a resort hotel. It is very different than at WDW, where you have to drive pretty far if you are staying off-property. In Anaheim, the closest hotel to the entrance is actually the Best Western Park Place, which is across the street. I've also heard good things about the Candy Cane Inn. These hotels are often less than $100/night, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. If you choose to stay "on-property," you'll pay at least $100/night, and much more if you stay at the most luxurious of the resort hotels, the Grand Californian. I've stayed at the Disneyland Hotel, the Grand Californian, and toured through the Paradise Pier. It is really nice to stay at the resort hotels, because the themeing is fantastic (particularly at GC and DH), and you get a pretty good view of the parks. Plus, if an afternoon by the pool is on your list, the pools at these resorts can't be beat! And you can "pool-hop," so if you are at GC you can go over to the DH and enjoy the Neverland pool. Whenever I can afford it, I stay at the Grand Californian (okay...I've only been there ONCE!) But usually I stay at the Disneyland Hotel. However on budget trips I stay at the Park Place, which is pretty nice, and the proximity can't be beat. But I'm not a big pool person (there is just a "token" pool there) so that doesn't matter much to me. In conclusion, I'd say if you are going for the full Disney experience, I'd stay at one of the resort hotels. But if you want to save some money, staying at one of the off-site hotels is an excellent way to save money with very little inconvenience.

Re: Best Hotels Around Disneyland? The first time we went we stayed at Portofino, which I personally loved. Very small pool, but OK for the kids. Big spacious room. Last time we stayed at Red Roof Inn, a long walk to Disneyland, but very friendly desk personnel and it was clean. This time we are staying at Ramada Saga. I have heard great things about Candy Cane Inn and the Howard Johnson. Have fun!

Re: Best Hotels Around Disneyland? I was just at Disneyland on Feb 2 and stayed at The Park Vue right across the street. It is located right at the crosswalk on Harbor. Less than 5 minutes and you are at the gates. The hotel is nothing special, clean rooms, generic pool and complimentary breakfast in the morning. But then, how much time do you plan to spend in your room? There are many hotels across the street that can be discribed the same, and many are close enough to walk, don't even bother with the shuttles. Jennifer

Re: Best Hotels Around Disneyland? Jennifer, You are right! The Park Vue is next door to the Best Western Park Place. Those hotels are pretty generic, but they are a great value. And it's great to not have to wait for the shuttles!

Re: Best Hotels Around Disneyland? I've stayed at both the Grand Californian and the Paradise Pier. The Paradise Pier hotel is wonderful. It's a nice, quiet hotel that's well-kept, but still a Disney owned resort. It also has a special back entrance into California Adventure. The only downfall is the walk you'll need to take to get to Disneyland proper. It's a good walk over to the Monorail, and even longer to the front gates in the event the Monorail is closed or full. If you're going during the summer, it'll likely be at full capacity regularly.
