Paradise Pier or Disneyland Hotel?

Could you tell me the pros and cons of these two hotels? I would LOVE to stay at the Grand but doubt I can get Dh to spend that much for 6 nights.

We are going in November with our two little one's ages 5 yrs and 18 months. I'm leaning towards Paradise Pier as it is a little less expensive but will the kids enjoy it as well?

I want to surprise the kids with a few things in the room. Will the Disney Vacation Planners help me arrange that at the PP?

TIA! :-)

Re: Paradise Pier or Disneyland Hotel?

I've never stayed at PP, but have toured around the hotel just "checking it out." If you get a park view, you'll have a great view of Paradise Pier, and you get a special entrance into Paradise Pier. Of course, with the ages of your kids, they won't be able to ride many of the attractions in Paradise Pier. The pool there isn't nearly as impressive as the DL Hotel pool, and the walk to the Monorail is quite a bit further. If I were you, I'd probably lean towards the DL Hotel. It may be a little more expensive, but I think considering the ages of your kids, they would really love playing in Neverland pool, and seeing the Dancing Waters show, and feeding the fish in the Koi pond, all things you can only do at the DLH.

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">They sure will! I just called them yesterday after I got my confirmation in the mail for our trip next week. They were so nice! I arranged to have a Sleeping Beauty doll and something Sorcerer Mickey or Buzz sent up for my kids on our day of arrival. (They deliver to the rooms between 4 and 5 pm.) He said he'd try to add balloons, and a card for each of them to the effect that the characters sent them a gift. (Not a specific character, but "the gang" at Disneyland.) I gave him a $30 limit per child, which he said would be no problem, and there is a $10 shopping fee. I can so hardly wait to see the kids' faces when we get to the room and they see this!! I can't wait!
I'll let you know how it goes when I get back!
Also, I'd go for the DLH with the kids ages in consideration. It's more convenient and the pool alone is worth it. Last time we stayed at PPH, you could pool hop, but it was a bit of a hassle to walk all the way over there. We sprung for the DLH this time, because DS wanted to stay at the "Peter Pan Hotel." (The pool is themed to Peter Pan, but he identified the whole hotel by the pool. Think he's ready for a swim? LOL)

Re: Paradise Pier or Disneyland Hotel?

Thank you all for your wonderful information! I just got off the phone with Disney reservations and booked our rooms at the Disneyland Hotel due to your glowing recommendations. I'm soooo excited! It is $220 right now but my fingers/toes/etc... are crossed that the APD rates drop it considerably by the time we go. I have another question but I'll make a new post with it.

Thank you so much for the wonderful ideas of what to have waiting for the kids in the room! I can't wait to see the look on my 5 yr old daughter's face. She will be thrilled!

Thanks again!!
