Information on visiting the Queen Mary?

Has anyone been to the Queen Mary recently? We will be taking a day trip while in DL to visit this ship. I understand they will have the Titanic exhibit on board (ironic, somehow).

Can anyone tell me about parking at this area? Or, how long we should allow to see the full tour of the ship plus this extra exhibit? Any suggestions for places to eat on board? My dd has a fascination with the Titanic and large ships.

Thanks!

Re: Information on visiting the Queen Mary?

We stayed overnight on the QM last August. If you're into history and/or ships, there's more than enough to keep you occupied for at least a half-day, if not the whole day. There are many decks to wander, many exhibits to see. Parking is easy. There are large lots right next to the ship. There aren't many dining choices during the day. Pretty much, go for what your budget allows. The full service restaurants all use the same kitchen, so quality there will be consistent. Go with the menu and price structure that suits your needs. I do suggest reservations for whatever restaurant you choose (if reservations are accepted).

Re: Information on visiting the Queen Mary?

I visited the Queen Mary last August as a day visitor. I took the Long Beach bus (can't recall exactly what they call it) since I did not have a rental car. I was there about five hours and could easily have spent longer if I had the time -- the exhibits are fascinating if you are a fan of ships and history.

There is also a small Russian submarine next to the Queen Mary that you can go inside -- it was very interesting (as long as you are not claustrophobic!)

I would certainly allow for the full day to tour the Queen Mary, the submarine and the Titanic exhibit.

Re: Information on visiting the Queen Mary?

Thanks, every one! The information on parking and dining were very helpful. I now know, too, to allow enough time to visit the ship and the Russian sub.

It has been almost 30 years since I last visited this ship, and I seem to remember that it once had an aquarium on board in the lower level. I was pretty young then. Anyone remember this, or am I imagining it?
