Re: Sing with me...California Here We Come! Day 1, Part 2, updated 11/21 Day 1 - October 30, 2006 – Part 2 We pulled into Sea World without a hitch, and I was really looking forward to this day because I liked Sea World in Orlando so much when we went a few years ago. It was a little overcast, but that was okay. I looked at the map to get my bearings, looked at the schedule to get a plan, got Maxine her first wheelchair of the trip, and we were off! We decided to go through the park counter-clockwise since the shows we wanted to begin with were on that side of the park. The first thing we came saw was the beautiful foliage. The flowers were gorgeous throughout the park. Victoria had to take a picture of flowers and the flags. You can really see how overcast it was. Then we came across the Clydesdales. These horses are magnificent. Although I am allergic to horses, I did close enough for a picture or two. Although this picture turned out a little blurry, I still like it. The infamous donkey from their latest ad campaign was on hand for photos and was sure not to miss his breakfast. Victoria really, really wanted to ride Journey to Atlantis, so we went there to beat any lines. Boy did we beat them. It wasn’t even open yet. But we did see some beautiful dolphins. Yes, these are dolphins. I know because I am so smart. No, I know because I read. The sign said these are Commerson’s Dolphins. They were beautiful. They were constantly swimming together. Separation anxiety? Since Atlantis wasn’t open yet, we went to visit Wild Arctic. Wild Arctic is a ride similar to Star Tours. Beautiful scenery of frozen wastelands filled with gorgeous animals we don’t get to see everyday. It was a nice ride, and we all made it back home safely. I love these animals! This is the beluga whale on top of the water. I never could get a very good shot of him. There was also a huge polar bear. The first picture looks like he is taking a dump. He isn’t. (Of course, I am calling every animal a he. Who knows? He could have been a she.) When we first went underneath, the sea lion was “standing” in the corner. Then he decided to do some swimming. He was so beautiful and graceful. Yay! Then we got to see the beluga again. How lovely is he? We exited Wild Arctic, and I was eager to see the penguins. I penguins. They are the cutest birds. Sadly, Penguin Encounter was closed today, but they did have some penguins outside swimming in a little area. They were precious. They kept talking to each other and swimming around and shaking their tails. I think I lost a picture in the transfer. I had better ones than this and I can’t find them. At least I have this one. After watching and videoing the penguins antics, we decided to visit the manatees. Manatees are so cute and docile. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures inside the exhibit because the manatees were all at the very top of their home, and we were hardly able to see them. Up Next: Petting unusual animals and Clyde and Seamore!

Re: Sing with me...California Here We Come! Day 1, Part 2, updated 11/21 Great update... although the marine biologist/professor in me has one SMALL (ok not so small - it is a huge animal after all) correction. The "sea lion" is in fact a walrus. A female one (tuskless). Great update!! I got to go on Wild Arctic back in December when I was at the Marine Mammal conference... I got as sick on it as I do star tours - but the animals on the inside were fantastic. The penguin house was really wonderful too - I am sorry it was closed. I did not realize they had manatees at the California park!! Thanks for the wonderful update and photos.

Just kidding! Ok...so a cute walrus was swimming gracefully in the water. |

Re: Sing with me...California Here We Come! Day 1, Part 2, updated 11/21 Great photos and another great update! I haven't been to Sea World in CA since I was 4 years old and it didn't look like that back then. Despite the gray day, you really did get some beautiful photos - you'd never know!

Re: Sing with me...California Here We Come! Day 1, Part 3, updated 11/27 Day 1 - October 30, 2006 – Part 3 Phew! Now that Thanksgiving has passed, and I’ve gotten my Christmas shopping done, I can get back to this trip report. Thanks for reading and your wonderful comments, and thanks for waiting. Here goes! After we visited the manatees and the other fish living with them, we met up with some critters we could hold. Victoria first held a Bearded Dragon which is native to Australia. He was very docile and loved to snuggle up against you. His skin was very hard, almost like a shell. He was cute! Then, Victoria and Michael held a baby python. He wasn’t quite as cute. I had touched a snake before, so I knew they weren’t slimy. It was fascinating holding his belly as he moved because you could feel all of his muscles working to move him around. Very . The only worrisome thing was the handler always made sure she held the head. Ok. Was she trying to tell us he may bite? He did have the tendency to wrap his tail around the person holding him. After those wonderful animals, it was time to see our first show, Clyde and Seamore’s Risky Rescue. Clyde and Seamore attempt to save their ill-fated submarine, U.S.S. Motley by going on a risky rescue to find Admiral Biggenbottom. This little otter was so cute. They really plugged their sponsors here at Sea World San Diego. This time, they plugged Pepsi. The otter came on with a refreshing drink...Pepsi. The Clyde and Seamore show was cute; however, I liked the storyline at their show at Sea World in Orlando better. We were all getting hungry by now so decided to get some lunch. On our way we saw the flamingo cove and some plant life that my DH liked. We had wanted to eat lunch at another restaurant, but it wasn’t operating. I guess the low level of crowds closes things down. There were several restaurants that were closed. We settled for Mama Stella’s Pizza Kitchen. Michael and I shared a pepperoni pizza, some breadsticks and a cup of strawberries. It all looked pretty good. Maxine got the pepperoni pizza and breadsticks. Victoria got a Shamu bucket that had a cheese pizza and a breadstick. Unfortunately, I have to say that this was the worst meal I have had in a very long time. The pizza was horrible. The breadsticks were too hard. Thankfully, the strawberries were good. So, a big thumbs down to Mama Stella’s pizza. Yuck! Up Next: Dolphins!
