| A shock on Space Mountain! My hubby and I just got back today from a one day trip to DL. While I'll post a trip report soon, I had to mention what happened on Space Mountain because it is a first for me and about scared me to death! We Fast Passed the ride as it had a 45 minute wait. Came back at the allotted time, got thru quickly and were waiting to ride the first car. The people ahead of us were loading into the car. It was three adults. The mother and son (who was mentally challenged) in the front car, the dad* in the second car. Before the lap bars could come down, the son takes off down the track! ![]() Running at full speed, as soon as he hit the track, the ride stopped, ALL the lights came on (I've never seen it so bright inside Space Mountain), and his dad bolted after him. It happened so fast, I'm not exactly sure what happened. I know he made it to the front of the train that was waiting to launch. I thought he just sat down. My husband thought the dad grabbed him around the collar and the son fell. Whatever it was, he didn't make it into the ride. He got stopped at the end of the track right below the control center. And, boy howdy! you should have seen the control center crawling with people. ![]() My heart was pounding. I felt bad for the family, but was so glad nobody was hurt. We were quickly issued a return pass (which doubled as a Fast Pass for any ride) because Space Mountain had to be shut down for an hour. The poor girl writing the passes was shaking. It shocked everyone. I'm sure they are trained for it, but being trained and actually having it happen is two totally different things. Don't know what happened to the family. We came back just after an hour and the ride was operating. We got our front seat again and was even asked what happened by an operator. She was there, but didn't see the occurrence. And, I just have to say, the update to SM rocks! We felt like we were flying thru space. Couldn't see the track at all. Little queasy at the end, but enjoyed the ride. *assuming the trio were family

| Wow! Very glad no one was hurt and the CMs helped take care of the situation. I agree about the newer updates, the ride is awesome and very dark! loved it

| Happy that he wasn't hurt. I worked at an amusment park for three years and had a little child about 4 escape his parents, manage to get over/under the fence, across the railroad tracks, and come into my ride. Couldn't hit the stop button quick enough. Once was enough for me.
