Shopping near(ish) to LAX

I'm actually not too sure which section this should go in but Southern California "attractions" seemed the closest....

My wife and are are arriving at LAX at about 12:40pm (It'll be a Saturday) from NZ but our flight out to Orlando (WDW here we come) doesn't depart until 10:30pm so we thought we might take the opportunity of doing a little shopping in LA.
Are there any decent Malls somewhere near LAX (or a decent price taxi ride) that we could grab a cab too? We are looking for a pretty normal shopping mall but of course the more shops and variety the better (It will need a big bookstore in it for my wife ).

Anyone got any ideas of something that might fit the bill and if so a rough cost for a taxi there?

The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center is just a few minutes away from LAX. I've never been inside, but it looks beautiful from the freeway! It's right off of the 405, which is the freeway adjacent to LAX. My best guess is that it's about 3-4 miles away, and a cab costs about $2 a mile. I'd say it would cost you between $10-$12 each way via taxi. And, there's a Border's Bookstore there. If you want something more upscale, there is the Beverly Center in Beverly Hills (or even Rodeo Drive.) A taxi there would probably cost you more like $25-$35 each way, though. Have fun!
