| Don't know if your trip is already past, but I thought I'd post anyway. I lived in San Diego a couple years ago and there was a great Trolley tour that left from old town in San Diego. Old town is also a great place to check out.

| We didn't take a tour as such during our time there, we self toured in the car, but do not miss San Diego, it is a stunning city and I hope we get to go back one day. We did take the boat tour around the bay - we did the whole circle, so we got to see everything and that was very good value and very worthwhile doing. Here's a link to our 2006 trip report to San Diego, so you can see what sort of things we did during our time there.

| Oh we loved San Diego...... talk about perfect weather. We did the trolley tour one day and did the Seal boats too. Also spent time on the Mid way. Sorry I did not catch this thread sooner.

| San Diego is my childhood hometown, so even though I am still not sure how to get everywhere on my own and I haven't been back as much as I'd like as an adult, I much prefer to tour around on my own (you aren't constrained by time then either) however there are some tours you can do: San Diego tours, california tours - daily tour in San Diego San Diego Tours & Attractions | City of San Diego Tourism | Old Town Trolley San Diego Sightseeing & tours by Gray Line San Diego San Diego Attractions, Tours and Ticket Center. Old Town Trolley, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Seal Tour and more San Diego Tours - Harbor Cruises and Sightseeing Activities San Diego Tours, San Diego City Tours, SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo, Harbor & Bay Cruises | All San Diego Tours When I do my own touring, I also like to take a harbor cruise. The cruises are all narrated. The narrator gives you a bit of a guided tour as to what you are seeing from the water as well as gives you a bit of a history of San Diego. If you are "pressed" for time or just don't want to be on a boat for that long, the 1-hour cruises are great. They take you down under the Coronado Bridge, past the Navy piers, etc then turn back to the dock. However, I really like the 2-hour cruises . . . they go the same route of the 1-hour cruises then turn around and go out around North Island on the other side out by the Navy sub base and such then back to the dock. ![]() San Diego Harbor Excursion - San Diego Dinner Cruises, Harbor Tours, Whale Watching and more... | We did a harbor cruise, and I highly recommend that as well. It was so nice and a great way to see everything. We got some great photos of the Coronado bridge, just amazing! We didn't do any city tours, just sort of drove around a bit for our own exploration. That was actually quite fun!

I would think you could go Greyhound, but SD is so vast and spread out you really should have a car to get around and see everything. Plus the drive down is beautiful. Check out the signs for immigrant crossing if you take the 5, it makes us giggle everytime we seem them! There's also a lot of nice mission towns and some very high end beaches to check out as well. The PCH is also a beautiful drive down the coast. I'm really missing Cali right now! Maybe we'll have to make a trip back there soon!

| We did the ghost tour on the haunted ghostbus. it is a nighttime tour but was brilliant. It left the best western hacienda and covered numerous locations plus the whaley house, the villa montezuma and a graveyard. My 11 year old son was the youngest person there and he thought it beat the heck out of the seals boats and the trolley tour, but we liked the trolley better than the seals. |

| We are a family of 4 with 2 kids traveling from DLand early in the morning to San Diego Mission Valley, tour sea world, stay that night is San Diego and next day again visit sea world and then in the afternoon go to LA Downtown Citicenter. Is taxi expensive? How safe are the buses? Is renting a car good option. Not familiar with the roads in LA.

| Stefans, I would go ahead & rent a car with a GPS There are wonderful sites to see all along the California coast & great places to stop along the way to San Diego.. Taxi's are pricey a car will give you the freedom to travel at your own pace..

| Renting a car is best option. There is the ART or a taxi to Amtrak train station and probably a Greyhound bus. Just google maps and print out directions and maps. Look on the street view so you can see any problems with your route such as turn right at Arco or stay to the left. I have used that method for my San Antonio trip. Even with my home ground of DLR there were maps printed out and notes taken. San Diego has many things to offer for everyone. There is the Wild Animal Park and the Zoo or for kids Legoland, Belmont Park and SeaWorld. There are museums and beaches. I love going down there but health and finances are a limitation for me. Car is my final answer.
