| Tijuana Now it's my turn to post a question: for those who have gone down to Tijuana by bus, have you gotten a stamp in your US passport, either automatically, or by request? (Yes, I know that only if you stay more than 72 hours do you need an FMT card, and thus a stamp in the passport.) |

| Hmmm interesting question. I haven't gone to Tijuana before but I have traveled to Mexico through El Paso and all I needed was my DL (I did have my passport but didn't need it).

| We drove to TJ years ago and didn't need a passport. I don't know how much has changed post 9/11, but the entrance from the 5 in SD is pretty much a stay in your car kind of deal. I'm not sure if that applies for buses.

| As of Jan 2008 you must have a passport to return to the US from Mexico and Canada. We live in San Diego and with all of the drug killings currently going on down in TJ, I would not suggest you go. In fact, all servicemen must get special permission to go across the border and then they have to use the 'buddy system'. This is new as of the first of the year. |

| As a former San Diego resident, I second the "don't go". Aside from the fact that I think it's a scary, dirty, horrible place; ABC just did a full hour on the kidnappings and killings that have been on the rise there. It was really bad, they're just swiping random people off the street. I'm sure looking touristy would be like having a giant target on your back.

| I think that's a smart choice, and you're right there is PLENTY to do in Southern California. Have a great trip.
