Best Beach In the Area?

We plan on taking a day to head to the beach with our two boys (ages 11 and 8) in early April. I know that the weather may not be warm enough for swimming as the average high temperature is only in the low to mid 70s. Which one do you suggest? We have a rental car, but this will be our first trip to the area. We are staying at the Desert Palms right next to DLR. TIA.

Ok, it looks like Huntington Beach would be the nearest one, then we would drive down the coast toward San Diego. We would probably then take I-5 back to DLR/hotel. Oh, and the kids haven't seen any ocean yet, so that's why we are really looking to go there!

Newport Beach is nice, as is Laguna Beach.

I'm partial to Newport Beach, which is about 10 minutes from DLR. We stayed in Newport Beach this summer and it was a nothing drive to get to DLR. It's the beach we've always visited when we squeeze in a beach day during a DLR visit.
