Hotels near Universal Studios Hollywood (or surrounding area)

Any rec's for hotels in this area? Does anyone have any luck using hotwire or priceline? Our budget is in the moderate range and I do have AAA (if that helps at all).

I don't have any specific recommendations as I have only stayed at the Hilton at Universal (very nice, by the way! Great location as well.)

But if I were to stay near USH again, I would probably look for something in Burbank, as I have found those hotels to be a bit less expensive than Hollywood/Studio City hotels. I have heard good things about Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City, though.

Here is a list of the hotels that are "partners" with Universal and that they recommend . . .

Last May my DD had a competition at the LA Equestrian Center. Her team stayed at the Marriott at the Burbank Airport. They paid around $120./night and had suites. The girls thought they were in heaven. I think they also had breakfast in the restaurant included.

I went on Priceline, and bid something like $45./night. They came back with an offer for around $55./night. I ended up with a regular room in the same hotel.

The hotel was undergoing renovations of some common areas. The rooms were newly renovated and very nice. Room service and the hotel restaurant were very good. The staff was outstanding! I have never had such superior customer service. Every staff member said hello, asked if they could assist you and were extremely pleasant.

This hotel is about 1 miles from the highway and a mile in the other direction from some shopping centers.

I would stay again in a heartbeat and was thrilled with the price. I also was treated no differently than any other hotel guests, something that is not always the case when you get a Priceline room.

Diane

We too stayed at the Rennaisance Hollywood in the summer and loved it. We had a car so we drove to USH from there (it was a 5 minutes drive), but the metro station is next to the hotel and the USH stop is the next one down the line so it is really easy to get to by metro too. We booked on their website and it was cheaper to book a package which included breakfast and an upgrade to a deluxe room than it was to just book a regular room!
