I've never been to CA but the US / IOA in Orlando is awesome. Some of the best rides ever - Spiderman, Dr. Doom, Hulk Coaster, Dueling Dragons, Dudley Doo-Right, Jurassic Park, Revenge of the Mummy, Shrek, MIB. Well worth a day or two

Universal Hollywood is still an actual working movie/TV studio so you may occasionally see some filming going on.

As far as the rides, there are a few that both Universal Studios parks have (like The Mummy, Shrek 4D, The Simpsons). In Florida, IOA has the Jurassic Park ride . . . it is on the lower level at Universal Hollywood.

The Studio Tour incorporates Jaws and the former US Florida rides, Earthquake and King Kong . . . you also get to see sets from many movies and TV shows like Desperate Housewives, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (not the cartoon one ), Psycho, Bram Stoker's Dracula and an awesome set from War of the Worlds.

While I like Universal Florida . . . I like Universal Studios Hollywood a lot better.

We were at universal California years ago & loved it. I am not a big fan of the Florida parks though..
Like Sarah said it has cool movie sets & lots of fun rides too..

I also am thinking of doing the US thing when I take my hb and kids for their 1st visit I liked it when I was a kids my sister has just come back and she has been a number of times and is getting a little tired of the experience My question is I can't figure out if you can get there without a car I think we will be staying at either the Hojo or Park place Is there some kind of bus or tour that gets you there that is not crazy $$

There are a couple of suggestions in this thread:

To Universal from Disneyland.

If you poke around the DL: Getting There (and Back) forum, you may be able to find a few more suggestions.

Another option is, give the hotel(s) you are thinking of staying at a call and ask if they offer a shuttle to Universal or if they know the best way to go.

I believe the HoJo has some sort of deal through Coach America tours for Universal . . . not sure about the Best Western Park Place.

I like Universal in CA better than the one in Orlando. When we took the tram studio tour, they were getting ready to film scenes from Desperate Housewives. They also point out other sets that have been used in other tv shows and movies. The rides are pretty good, too.

We rented a car and had it for our whole trip since we drove to San Diego a couple of days and drove into Hollywood. There is a bus that will take you to Universal, but then you are stuck on their schedule. If that doesn't bother you, it might be worth it. This website offers a bus there - Theme Park Transportation in Anaheim | All Anaheim Tours. There may be others; I don't know.
