| We prefer to go over to Coronado Beach and down the "Silver Strand" to the Silver Strand State Beach as those are the best for kids. If you were going to be going the first week in August, I would say go to Imperial Beach as they host the annual US Open Sandcastle Contest at the beginning of August. ![]() Whatever you do, DO NOT go to Blacks Beach.

| Though not in San Diego (close by.....we used public transportation), we really liked La Jolla Shores. Our family took a 7 Caves Kayak tour and it was one of the highlights of our trip!

| We visited Coronado Beach as well. It was very beautiful and peaceful. No jet ski's, bars, etc... If you're willing to drive a bit, I think Santa Monica Pier is worth a visit. It's about 1 1/2 hr drive ( I think). |

| Will be traveling to San Diego in August with my 4 year old. Would like to visit a couple of beaches. Nothing special, just fun in the sun on the sand and in the waves. Easy parking is a plus. Something sheltered from a lot of wind, or where the sunset doesn't blaze directly in your eyes as you look out toward the water would be nice too.

| I live in San Diego and while the Silver Strand is nice we also like going to Mission Beach, which also has Belmont Park, home to one of the few wooden roller coasters left. It is also a nice short walk up the boardwalk to Pacific Beach. All of San Diego beaches are also booze free. |
