We're visiting So Cal in October to include SD and DL. It will be DD's first trip but I am from San Diego but haven't been back in awhile.
We are considering buying City Passes but not sure if it makes a lot of sense since there will be options we cannot take advantage of. Yes, I can do the math, but wondered if anyone out there can share experiences and whether they would or would not recommend them? If not, where else might you recommend purchasing discounted tickets? Unfortunately, our Costco does not offer CA tickets.
We didn't use it when we went to SoCal in 2010. At that time, DL was offering buy 3 days, get one free tickets so that saved us money. We also went to LEGOland, where we had buy one adult, get one kid free tickets. We got a discount on our SD Zoo tickets (maybe from their website?) and I think the same for the Wild Animal Park (or whatever they call it now). They might have been AAA discounts. The link to my trip report is in my signature and the info should be in there.
Thanks so much! I'm going to hold off on purchasing to see if any deals come up after school starts. Most of the specials I can find now expire at the end of August or September or are resident discounts.

Thanks for any help you may offer!
We are in Canada and hubby just emailed me a link to Costco.ca in which we can purchase California tickets from and have them shipped to us. Perhaps you should check out the Costco website? Just because the store doesn't have them doesn't mean you can't order online.
I'd appreciate hearing how it works for you after your trip please.
DON'T pick it up at Disney Will Call - go to the ticket counters, that's where you'll get your 3 day parkhopper ticket. KEEP THE CITY PASS CARD as you will go through the other parks kiosks with them
it worked just asm simply as any other pass. Totally worth it.

Since I'm not as familiar with DL as WDW, what/where are the "ticket counters"? Are those the turnstiles or is there a guest services location?
They are right in the middle of the walkway between California Adventure & Disneyland.. Can't miss them ..
This is in front of Disneyland,California is right across from it.. It's a big open area & the booths are in this area..
