I was a bit like you before we stayed concierge - what it means is that you get food on offer all day in the concierge lounge. There was a good choice for breakfast and snacks during the day and then I seem to recall they had an hour or so in the early evening when they offered cheese and wine, which was a very nice perk. From the concierge lounge at the Disneyland Hotel, we had a great view of the Remember fireworks and that was a definite added bonus and one of the main reason we stayed concierge there for a couple of nights. The concierge staff are also available to help out with your vacation in any way they can.

By Definition: a hotel employee whose job is to assist guests by arranging tours, making theater and restaurant reservations, etc.

We stayed Concierge at AKL. It was fabulous! Not only did we have access to a wonderful lounge with nice food offerings, but the staff was amazing and arranged many many things for us! They set up reservations for meals, Sunrise Safari, and even sent up a birthday cake and small gifts for the two children in our group who had birthdays while we were there. We stayed at PO resort prior to our stay at AKL and the concierge even set up ressies etc that happened while we were at PO...talk about going above and beyond! We absolutely loved our concierge stay! OH, and as an added bonus...we just happened to be staying there at the same time as Roy Disney and spouse, so we got to meet him as well!

MY DD was just at DL Hotel and had concierge. She loved it! They had wonderful snacks and food, wine & cheese hour (she couldn't partake -- only 20), and breakfast. From the room, she got to see the fireworks, which she said was awesome! Also, great views of the parks.

She also just went to concierge desk and got tickets for the next day; didn't have to stand in line or anything! Made life a lot easier for her.

It's a splurge, but seems to be worth it. We're going to maybe try it at AK for one night next trip. It's great if you're going to be able to partake in all they offer.

Thanks for clarifying...but let me ask this...becaue I pretty much plan our entire vacation before we go. Since all of the planning is done, is the food the only reason to book concierge?

In my opinion, no. We booked early and let the concierge take care of all the details, etc. The food is nice, but it is not like there is a full meal offered. A sample menu would be as follows:

Breakfast – Cold cereals, bagels, cream cheese, breads, butter, jellies, breakfast pastries, fruit, yogurt and morning beverages.

Lunch- Finger sandwiches, raw vegetables and dip, fruits, cookies, brownies, cold and hot beverages.

Afternoon Tea – Several types of tea, cookies, coffee, lemonade and ice tea.

Dinner - Hot and cold offerings (appetizers), several types of cheese and crackers, fruit, raw vegetables and dip. Several wines are presented each night.

There are perks that come with concierge...for example, when we stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in WDW, for an additional fee, only concierge guests were able to take advantage of the Sunrise Safari (private tour of Kilimanjaro Safaris with private buffett breakfast @ Tuskar House included). Again, the 2 children in our group received a small birthday gift and a cake (delivered to their room) on their birthday. There was a goodbye package delivered to our rooms on check out day; a large bottle of water each with a poem attached. Concierge had their own check in/check out desk, and a private entrance to the concierge area.
