Park Vue Inn or Desert Inn?

I'm trying to figure out which DL hotel to stay and I've narrowed it down to 2 choices -- Park Vue Inn or the Desert Inn. I stayed at both these hotels in 2005 and I don't recall anything bad about them. The Desert Inn was tight on parking, though, but this time, I won't have a car. The walk from the hotels to DL seemed the same. The Park Vue Inn had a nicer breakfast room. The main difference is the price -- I got the Desert Inn for 6 nights in September for $380 (before tax) and the Park Vue Inn was around $500. Unless things have changed at the Desert Inn, I'll probably stay there because it is cheaper. I'm just looking for a place to sleep and relax after a hard day at DL.

So which would you choose?

BTW, the hotel that really stuck out during a DL stay was the Penny Saver Inn. That place bordered on gross. Paint was peeling on the walls. The sidewalks looked like someone walked on them over and over again and left a trail. The pool looked like someone filled it with a garden hose and didn't bother to maintain it!

I have never stayed at the Desert Inn, but stayed at the Park Vue Inn in summer '94 (when it was an Econo Lodge) and again in 2005. I would probably stay there again if I was on a "tight budget" trip and couldn't find anything else available.

The service from the staff wasn't bad, either time, but the room we were in in '05 seemed like it was falling apart. The beds were hard as rocks, the sink faucet ran (didn't drip . . . it trickled water) all the time and the water came out of the bathtub faucet a ind of rust color. The pool looked kind of funky that trip too.

We didn't mind the breakfast area and really enjoy watching the park fireworks from the deck.

We've got it on the list of "If we can't get _____" hotels for our trip next summer, but our plan as of right now is tat if we can't do the Disneyland Hotel again, we will get a room with the rest of my family at the Carousel Inn a couple of doors down from the Park Vue.

Thanks for the tips! I'm going with the Desert Inn, primarily because it's the cheapest hotel I've found in the DL area. A friend just stayed there and she said it was more than adequate.

We stayed at the Desert Inn in September and it was more than adequate for us. We had a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom that was great to relax in after a day inthe parks!

We stayed at the Desert Inn last March and had a great stay there. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and you truly can't beat their rates.

We stayed at the Desert Inn last February and thought it was a rat hole! It was smelly, mildewy and musty. The carpets were thread bare and bed linens just looked and felt gross. Also the customer service was terrible. I haven't been at the Park Vue but I would not recommend the Desert Inn at all.

We stayed at the Desert Inn & Suites last August and thought it was just fine. We had a parlor suite (2 queen beds + sleeper sofa in seperate room). Just fine for three pals on a quick trip to DL. When we first got to the room, I was concerned as it was near the stairwell & elevator, but we did not hear any noise. And we watched wishes from our room window one night (although they have a veiwing deck on the roof). I am planning to go to DL early next year (once DVC releases point chart for DL) and would stay there if I wasn't planning on using DVC points to stay on property.
