Crowne Plaza Resort Review

Just got back from two nights at the CP. We got the room for $60 a night on Priceline, less than half the going rate at the time of booking. On top of that, we were charged a $12 per night resort fee. That's about the norm for the area better hotels. Self parking was included in the resort fee, but we valet parked for an additional $14 per night. The valet service was excellent, and we got to know the valets well, even though we didn't move our vehicle the entire time we were there. The rooms were very nice! We were next to the ice and vending machines and didn't hear a peep, even when we napped in our room in the afternoon. The beds were very comfortable, like a Doubletree. Mattress pads and fluffy comforters made crawling into bed more of a joy than it already was, as tired as we were! The building is very nice, with a perfectly heated pool and spa. While we didn't use it, there was an exercise room visible from the pool area. We were very happy with the facilities. The Crowne Plaza rooms rated just under the deluxe Disney hotels for room quality in the Unofficial Guide.
Except for the valets, we found the staff to be lacking. The first morning, I ordered coffee, muffins and milk from room service and it never arrived, even though we'd been promised it would arrive within 30 minutes. When I called back, they said they would deliver it now, but we wouldn't have time to eat it, as we wanted to get to the park early. We ended up having a very lovely and delicious breakfast in the park at the Cafe Orleans, instead. The prices for room service were reasonable, though.
We had to wait an inordinately long time to get our bags brought up to our room. Bell services was extremely slow and inept. Upon our last morning, I could not get anyone to answer the phone at bell services for over 20 minutes! I called the front desk, and was told that they would see to it that our luggage was picked up and brought down for holding until after we returned from the parks. So we left everything on the bed in both our rooms and left for our PS for Goofy's Kitchen. After eating, I felt uneasy and called back to verify that they had, indeed, removed our luggage from the room to holding. I was told that it had been taken care of, not to worry.
That evening, we returned to the hotel and were told that our luggage was nowhere to be found by bell services! It was later found....still in our rooms! Then the manager tried to tell me that we would be charged $50 per room for late check-out! Ummmm, no. Turns out the manager didn't catch the entire story and was A$$uming she knew the story. After I gave her the names of the persons at the front desk to whom I'd spoken, her story changes. We finally get a bell person to get our luggage donwstairs, then it takes another 30 minutes to straighten out the bill. No, not the threatened $50, but an additional room night that was added to my friend's bill, even though we had already established that we were checking out that day several times to the front desk. Oh, and I forgot to mention that theylost my friend's reservation to begin with upon check-in. They said "someone" had canceled it. Ummmmm. no! I had overheard this happening to another guest during our stay as well.
While we really enjoyed the hotel itself, I would not stay at this hotel again unless I got another great rate through Priceline, and would bring my own bags to/from my room. Means I'll have to pack lighter, though.
All in all, the Hyatt Regency and the Hilton remain our current favorites. At least until we stay at the Grand CA.
