Difference in Hotels?

With only 3 hotels, can anyone tell me the difference between the Disneyland Hotels? I am used to dealing with WDW where there are value, moderate and deluxe resorts.

Also, how far away are the Good Neighbor hotels? And what exactly do they mean by Good Neighbor hotels?

Any info you can provide would be helpful!

IMO, all of the DLR hotels are deluxe.
Here is a link that gives you all the info on the Disney Good Neighbor Hotels. Compare Good Neighbor Hotels near the Disneyland Resort

Oh, okay. Maybe I'll need to check out the Good Neighbor hotels. I hope they're cheaper.

They are cheaper, but before you book, I would check out reviews of them on
Anaheim Hotels: Read Anaheim Hotel Reviews and Compare Prices - TripAdvisor

I've stayed at the Disneyland Hotel the four times we went to Disneyland, but think that next time I'm going to try the Grand Californian because it is a closer walk to the parks.

I've heard good things about the Candy Cane Inn, but have never stayed there.

Yes, the Disneyland Three are on par with Deluxe at WDW, with a pricetag to match! We always consider staying on property, but can never justify the expense when there are decent motels just as close as DLH. We always stay at Best Western Park Place Inn. Their free breakfast stinks, but the rooms are clean, the beds are decent and we only sleep and shower there. And, most importantly, they are right on the crosswalk into the plaza. Obviously, if you spend more time in your room, you have more considerations in play.

We also stayed at Anabella, which is behind DCA on Katella, next to the convention center. It's a very nice spanish mission style hotel. It used to be a quick walk into the parking lot to catch a tram to the plaza, but that's where they're putting in Cars Land, so you can't go that way anymore, having to go instead up Disney Way and cutting through DTD (or GC).

Good Neighbors have been "approved" somewhat by Disney, but be sure to use Disney's list and not any random hotel's assurance that they are. There are some who've had their status revoked who haven't removed it from their website. When in doubt, you can always go with a chain name you trust (HoJo's and Holiday Inn are up the street a ways, we stay with Best Western, there's a Ramada). And if you don't mind a bit of a shuttle ride (still nothing compared to bus rides at WDW), there are so many more hotels open to you that are only 5-10 minutes away.

Good luck planning!

The advantage of staying on property and having our own enterance to DCA and the resort pools are very important to us. I have heard that the motels across from the main enterance are nice. Next time we come for only a couple of days I will consider them.

All Good Neighbor Hotels/Motels must meet certain standards that Disney sets up, much like the AAA ratings for hotels/motels. They are also with in the Resort Zone, which is, give or take, 4 blockes or walking distance to the parks. They are also the only hotels/motels where you can purchase the park tickets. As has been stated before, some hotels/motels may say they are in the Disney Good Neighbor group but if Disney themself does not list them, then guess what, their not.
Here is the 'official' web site with the listings of all of the Good Neighbor hotels/motels.
Disneyland Resort | Good Neighbor Hotels
BTW, most if not all of them are also less expensive than the Disney Resort Hotels. I don't like using 'cheaper' in this case. Hope this information helps.

I would class all three Disney hotels as deluxe. We've stayed at both the Grand Californian and Disneyland Hotel and have loved them both, although the Grand Californian is our favourite for theming.

Same with us, we've stayed twice at each the GCH and DLH and in Jun and again in Oct we will be staying at the Paradise Pier Hotel. We have to remember too that Disney bought the Disneyland Hotel and the Paradise Pier Hotel 'second hand' you might say. Disney only built the GCH so they could build what they wanted from the ground up, not so with the other two.

While our first stay at the Grand Californian is in 2 weeks, we have stayed at the Disneyland Hotel 3 times and Paradise Pier once. And that's the order of the pricing, reflecting the quality. We love staying onsite for the Disney theming and access to the parks, but you can tell as soon as you enter the Grand Californian that it's really the only one that has a WDW feel - probably because the same architect designed it as well as WL and AKL and, as already mentioned, the other two were acquisitions.

We've also stayed at the Hyatt, the Marriott, and the Sheraton nearby. Not bad and they have restaurants and Disney-themed gift shops and you can sometimes get tickets included in a package. They also shuttle you to the park.

I'd say that all the DLR hotels are "delux" -- they've turned over the value and moderate categories to the Good Neighbor hotels.
Some of them are super close -- like cross the street and you're on the sidewalk to the gate close.
We've always done Value resorts at WDW and stayed at a good neighbor hotel in Anaheim in Feb. Gotta say -- I loved seeing the Matterhorn as I crossed the parking lot in the morning, and taking a picture of our hotel from the monorail!

Thanks for all the useful info. I don't think a deluxe is in our price range. I just need a bed and a shower. Plus, we'll only be there for a couple days.

Then the motels at the maingate might be what you want. The are hundreds less than the resorts hotels, very nice (from what people tell me) and are actually closer to the main enterance in the parks. So no shuttles to wait for. This is pretty good to check out: http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/D...ndLinkMap.html

That map is great for putting things in perspective (I love how it has fireworks over the castle). Just a reiteration - DO NOT eat at Capt. Kidd's. It is truly horrible, even for a free meal offered with your Park Place room. Anything between Disney Way (Ramada) and McDonald's is a close walk, though nothing can beat Park Place and Park Vue for access (they are the only ones that can legitimately say they are "as close" as the Disneyland Hotel).

Also, the map has one error. The restaurant on Katella/ Disneyland Drive (West St) is not called "Tiffany's". It is "Tiffy's" My sister's name is Tiffany, so we've always joked with her about the restaurant. I borrowed this image from TheMouseForLess.com:
