| We are planning our 2nd ever trip to DL/DCA. On our last trip, we stayed at the Grand Californian -- which was pure heaven. But we wanted to experience a different resort this time. Soooo... tell me all about the Disneyland Hotel. Thanks in advance! |

| We did the opposite to you - stayed at the Disneyland Hotel first, as we couldn't get into the Grand Californian and then stayed in the Grand Californian on our second trip. Although the GC is our favourite, the Disneyland Hotel has a special place in our hearts as well - it's just well, so Disney really!

| Chezp is correct. We have spent time in all 3 of the resort hotels and there are certain things we love about all 3. You've already stayed at the GCR so you know all about the 'rough' and 'raw' appearance in the Lobby and the beauty over all. DLH does have it's own personality, as do the other 2. When you are in the Lobby, be sure to go to the far right and look at all of the pictures of celebs who have been to DLR and then go around the corner and gaze at all of the memorabilia they have in a large display case. Walk around the grounds and view the two pools and spa, also the wedding garden. They have several grand restaurants and even a great wine bar under Hooks Point. The DLH is the oldest of the 3 hotels while the GCH is the newest. In fact, the GCH is the only one of the 3 that Disney actually built. The DLH was built in 1955 and owned by a private developer. Disney bought the hotel in 1988 and then big changes were made to it in 1999 while the GCH, DTD and DCA were being built which including removing a lot of the orginal hotel, none of which remains today. |

| I loved the Disneyland Hotel, loved the themeing, see characters in the lobby and the ability to take the monorail into Tomorrowland. We haven't stayed at GC yet (we will in less than 3 weeks), so I can't compare, but since I do have some mobility issues, I think the GC will be better for us since it is closer to the parks. I did a review on TripAdvisor for the Disneyland Hotel. I guess what I didn't care for is that, unlike WDW, they close everything at 10pm, so if you come from the parks after than, you can't get a soda/snack except in a vending machine. | We stayed at the DL hotel in 2006, I thought the rooms were just ok. But the outside what I thought was really nice was the waterfall and stream that you could walk down by. That was really pretty esp at night very romantic. But when we were coming back from the park on our last day we kind of pushed our time to were we had 45 mins at the hotel and to get on the bus . But then my ten year old daughter had wondered off when we got there! That was pretty scary so we were searching all over for her and ended up missing the bus back to LAX. We had security and everything looking for her, and there she came just wondering up (couldn't be mad, just glad that she was safe!). So the manager tells us don't worry about it, we'll pay for your taxi to the airport! That was so awesome! The staff is great!! Last edited by CaseID; 08-27-2009 at 03:53 PM.. |
