How do you get a deal at the Grand Californain

Hi,

We have a surprise wedding in CA and I have convinced my husband to spend an extra 2 days in CA, so he suggested Disneyland. I would love to stay at the GC if possible since we will only have Monday all day and then Tuesday morning and I figure we can get the taste of Disneyland since we've never been. We have been to Disney World. We are going at a good time December (1st week) so it should be low season - I'm hoping. Please any ideas would be appreciated. Call the hotel directly call? Call Disney? Please help?

Thanks in Advance,
Gina

The way DL works is just about the same as WDW. They publish specials on their website and that is the only way (unless you are travelling with a convention or something like that where blocks of rooms are reserved for a sometimes cheaper rate) to get a cheaper room. (However, one way the 2 resorts are different is that WDW participates in room discounts as part of the Military Salute program, whereas DL currently does not)

The current special at DL is here: Save at Least 20% | Special Offers | Disneyland Resort

Currently, the deal shows certain rooms at the GCH being up to 30% off through Dec. 16th. You have to keep in mind though, that with the running specials, there are only a certain number of rooms that are discounted under that special during that time period. Once those are booked up, they're gone. You can give DL Reservations (714-956-6425) a call and see what they have available (and not to be a downer) but as close to your trip as it is now, I would be willing to bet that those rooms are all sold out.

Other than that, Disney doesn't have cheaper deals on rooms. :

The first 3 weeks of December are Value Season at DL, so being that that time is considered the "off" season, whatever room rate quote you get for that time frame will be the cheapest rate they offer.

I was just at this web site and they have a phone number to call to get Active or Retired Military Discounts at DLR.

Persistence sometimes pays off. I still do not know how I got such a good deal. I have found using the telephone has given me the cheapest rates. There is AP discounts sometimes and only one person has to be AP. MouseSavers usually has great information.

Let me warn you that there's not much left for that week. We will be there Dec 4-8 and we called about a pin code we received during the summer. Everything for PP and DLH were sold out - not just the discounted rooms, but ALL rooms. Now, the GC may be different, because they are more expensive, but rooms do book up. It could also be due to our dates - 2 nights might be easier to get than 5....

But there are so many great hotels in the area that you shouldn't give up if you can't get into the GC (whether for price or availability). Let us know if you need suggestions for other accomodations!

As Heather said above, this time of year the rooms may be very limited if not down right hard to reserve. PP usually will book out first with DLH coming in second and the GC booking full last, usually due to the higher cost of the rooms. If you think you might want to look off property I have an area on my web site, All Around Disney, that is devoted to not only Good Neighbor Hotels/Motels but also listed are other hotels and motels. The listing contain address, phone numbers and their web site, if they have one. By placing your curse on any given name, their location will also appear on a map located above the lists. The web address is:

http://allarounddisney.shutterfly.com/

and you are welcome to visit it at any time, as is anyone else. Hope this information helps not only you but anyone else who might be seeking this information.
