[Disneyland] Room discounts and fuzzy math...

So, I was looking on the DLR website, checking out the available discounts for our upcoming trip.

Right now they have, I believe, Winter Rates at 35% off, where you can score a standard room at Paradise Pier for $156. However, this discount only goes through the end of February.

We are heading down the end of March and so I was thinking, with my 40% military discount, I should be able to get a room for close to that figure, right? WRONG!! I called up the DLR 1-800 number and, with the military discount, she said the room would run about $300 a night.

Can someone explain to me how a room, with a 35% discount is $156 one month, but with the next month, it jumps to nearly $300 with a 40% discount. I thought the discount was off the rack rate? And if so, are you telling me the rack rate for a room at PP is normally $500. Really? Would anyone ever pay $500/night for Paradise Pier? I tried not to think about when we paid $250/night for The Disneyland Hotel. and it's a pretty stinkin' nice place that has recently been renovated.

Sorry, more of a vent than anything, but I seriously think I'm missing something.

My guess, is the end of March is considered PEAK season as Easter is the next week, with February being either value or regular season.

That's it. We're going the first week in April and the rates were rediculous, so we're staying offsite again.

Yes, the starting (rack) rates before the discount are different.

We'll be there Easter and the two days after...not pretty either. Definitely Peak Season. The crowd predictors are not looking good either for the end of March. Hoping more spring breaks are the week before Easter or the end of March and things quiet down for the two days after Easter!

I was waiting to book PP with my DVC points and checked October rate. 2 nights for 2 adults was $650. I declined the option and booked the night with my DVC points...
Are they nuts??? Last June when we were there the elevator was broken and the hotel suffered from extra loud guests running thru every public area...
The things we put up with when the people we love want to stay on property.....

Yeah, I've called on a number of occasions, but all the Standard -- yes, you're welcome to interpret that as cheapest -- rooms have been booked "...but we can get you a room with a Theme park view, Concierge level for only..." I forget exactly what she quoted me, but it was an insane ridiculous amount. Guess I'm nuts for planning a trip right smack in the middle of Spring Break.
