Disneyland Hotels

We are planning a trip DL this July and have no clue where to stay. Whenever we go to DisneyWorld staying on property is an absolute must. Is it the same for Disneyland or are the outside hotels close and nice enough? Which hotels do you recommend?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Disneyland Hotels

The outside hotels are close, and the bus service for the others is great. They run about every 20 minutes. The charge is small, (around $3.00 per day, but buy the pass at your hotel, as it is $3.00 per trip if you pay on the buses. The pass is good for multiple trips per day (let you take stuff back to your room, swim etc.)

Re: Disneyland Hotels

We usually stay offsite. I'm sure staying at a Disney hotel is magical, but I'd rather spend that $$$ on other park related items. Just my preference though. We normally stay at Howard Johnson which is about a 5-7 minute walk to the entry gates to Disneyland. However, this time we stayed at Desert Inn and Suites which was across the street from the main entrance and less than 3 minutes to the actual entry gates. I didn't really like the Desert Inn though as the walls are rather thin and we could hear our neighbors on both sides of us. My DD is 4 so we usually leave the parks before closing, but our neighbors stayed until closing every night and were still quite excited by the time they arrived back at their room. So this woke up my DD every night. The hotel was fine though, rooms were oversized and had a nice sized fridge and micro too. Next time we'll go back to the Howard Johnson's though. Good luck with your decision!

Re: Disneyland Hotels

I stayed at the Coast Anaheim Hotel (www.coasthotels.com) which is actually close to the convention center. It was about a 10 minute walk to Disneyland but much easier to buy a multiple day pass for the hotels near the parks and use the bus. The bus ran frequently, and each bus only stops at a few specific hotels.
The Coast Anaheim Hotel was clean, and not at all noisy. Depending on what floor and what part of the hotel you stay in, you can see the fireworks at night from your balcony. The pool area was good sized.

Re: Disneyland Hotels

Not that I have actually been, but the CM whow was helping me book my upcoming package said the Fairfield Inn (by Marriot)-Anaheim is right across the street and quite nice. She said it's the next best thing to staying onsite, in her opinion. I looked at their website, and they even have Disney art in the rooms! If they had been open when we changed our dates, we would have stayed there and saved some bucks!

Re: Disneyland Hotels

There are lots of great places to stay that are close to the Disneyland Resort. Some have complimentary shuttle service, some you can walk, or there is a local shuttle service (as mentioned in the post above). Let us know what you decided!

Re: Disneyland Hotels

We just stayed in the Fairfield and I can recommend it. It's just about the farthest hotel from the entrance, but is still *very* close and should be considered easy walking-distance. If you can get it, ask for a higher room that faces the park - you can see the fireworks from there.

The next closest is the Carousel Hotel -- but Karen had a horrific experience with them and I would say that their staff was less than magical.

Then there is the Tropicana, but it is very much a motel style hotel and the pool is literally in the parking lot. The rooms were nice, however.

People rave about the Candy Cane, but we never got to see it.

Good luck choosing!

Re: Disneyland Hotels

I know a lot of people would rather stay off site to save some extra $$, and we did this for the first time for the first three nights on our last trip in Feb. We have always stayed on site. Anywho we did not enjoy those first three nights off site and couldn't wait to move over to the DLR hotel. I will never stay off site again it is just not the same. I will always save the $$$ to be able stay on site. On site everything is right there for you, plus you get what you pay for in the amenities and the convinence of being so close to the parks.

Re: Disneyland Hotels

Although it's not as mandatory to stay onsite at DL as opposed to WDW because of proximity issues, I still think the only way to keep the magic going for your whole vacation is to stay onsite. We chose the Disneyland Hotel for our upcoming trip primarily because it was the original Disneyland hotel and seems to have the most Disney-oriented theming. For example, the entire Neverland pool area looks absolutely enchanting. And the very idea of having the wallpaper border light up at night with Tink's pixie dust makes me giggle like a toddler.

Re: Disneyland Hotels

We have stayed at the Disneyland Hotel ever since we decided to splurge on my birthday last year. On our last overnight trip to Disneyland we stayed at the Embassy Suites South because my friend said she heard it was great. They have a free buffet which would have been great if we weren't on such a tight schedule. The room service was outstanding and the room was beautiful and the bed was comfortable even though the bedspread was almost like a sheet. We had a great view of the fireworks even though we were so far from the park. What we did find out that the convenience of not having to take the tram far outweighed the money we saved by staying off property. The first night we had to wait for 5 trams before boarding and the next we waited 3 (because we left early to go home). Next time we will stay on property just for the convenience.
