Park tours

Has anyone gone on any of the guided tours at DL?

Are they worth the cost?

Thanks

Re: Park tours

I've done four of the DLR guided tours: Welcome to Disneyland, Walk in Walt's Footsteps, From Imagination to Celebration and Discover the Magic (Character-oriented scavenger hunt). We throughly enjoyed all four tours and actually found them to be far superior to the tours offered at WDW. Along with great info, you get lots of terrific perks like reserved seating for shows, parades and fireworks; fastpasses; special souvenirs, etc.

We did Walk in Walt's Footsteps and absolutely loved it. It was worth every penny.

Re: Park tours

They do look very interesting, we are thinking of taking the Welcome to disneyland tour primarily because of the price and the two extra fastpasses. It has been over 22 years since I have been to disneyland as well!

Thanks

Re: Park tours

I did the "From Imagination to Celebration" 50th anniversay tour this year and it was WONDERFUL! We got to go to the front of the line for a few rides and had special seating for the fireworks. I've aslo done tours in WDW and enjoyed every single tour. I highly recommend doing a tour if you're a newbie to the park--you get a much better appreciation of the magic that Disney creates each day.
And even if you're a Disney park veteran, you'll learn something new!

Re: Park tours

i've also done the 50th anniversary tour which is good. i've also done a VIP tour which was worth every single penny and couldn't possibly offer a better experience in my opinion.

Re: Park tours

We did A Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour and loved it, like the other posts. We were first time DL visitors and learned a lot on the tour, plus we got fastpasses.

We were surprised by how helpful this tour was. We took it on our first day in the parks so it gave us a great foundation for finding our way around. We also really loved being able to stroll around a deserted California Adventure before opening. It gave us a chance to play with some of the stuff in the Animation building with no waits at all.

Re: Park tours

What is the minimum age on the Welcome and Walk tours? Also, how soon can you book tours?

Unlike WDW, there is no minimum age disqualification for any of the tours at DLR.

Re: Park tours

We did the Walk in Walt's Footsteps in 2003 - I don't have any notes from that trip, but I do remember it being very informative. I think we got VIP entrance into either Pirates or Haunted Mansion - can't quite remember which.

If you go during the Christmas season, I highly recommend the Holiday Time at Disneyland tour - we took it in December 2005 & it included a guided tour of Disneyland, focussing on the decorations, a FP for Haunted Mansion Holiday & it's a small world holiday, reserved seating for the evening Christmas parade (with complimentary hot cocoa & crispie treats!). See my trip report for details... scroll to Day 2, Part 2 (12/14).

<font color="purple">I was thinking of taking the Welcome to Disneyland tour. Do you need reservations for the tours or do you just show up at City Hall at the appointed hour(10:00am?)? I've never done a tour at WDW and this will be my first time at DL. Re: Park tours

you do need to call, book and pay in advance for the tours. they may allow walkups for all i know, but typically most tours do sell out.

To be on the safe side, I would make a reservation but I was actually surprised when we took our four tours. We were there during a very busy time (July) and yet none of our tours was full. In fact, on one tour, Kirk and I were the only two people on it. So, if for some reason you don't book one in advance, it wouldn't hurt to drop by the Tours office and inquire as to availability.
