Watching the fireworks show and Fantasmic on the same night?

Well, I have a dilemma...During my visit of DL, fireworks will on be on Friday, 9/21 and Saturday, 9/22. Fantasmic is running only on Saturday. I won't be at DL on Saturday. I also plan on visiting Six Flags Magic Mountain, which is only open on Fridays from 10:30 to 6. So I can either:

1.) Visit Six Flags for the entire day and try to make it through L.A. traffic to watch the 9:25 pm fireworks on Friday.

2.) Watch the fireworks on Saturday at 9:25 and make it to the 10:30 Fantasmic show (hoping for a good seat).

If I do option #1, I'm afraid I will be stuck in the famous L.A. traffic and not make it to the fireworks. I was pondering on doing some of the smaller amusement parks in the area that night. If I do option #2, I can watch the fireworks along Main Street and then rush over to get a good spot at Fantasmic.

I have a 5 day DL pass too. I'll be arriving on 9/17 and leaving on 9/23. If I do #1, then one of my days will be a fireworks only day. I can do DL on the arrival day for a few hours, or I can do laundry (I'll be coming from a 2 week stint in Japan, so my clothes will be rather smelly!).

So which would be the better plan -- option #1 or option #2?

If you are solo and only have to find seating for yourself, then do both on the same night. I would not consider using a days admission for just fantasmic or the Fireworks. We were just there & both shows were very packed with people. I think we found our seats on the ground to the right of POTC at around 9:45pm, there was still plenty of space as many folks watch the Fireworks then jockey for postion for Fantasmic. And a word of warning Spread yourself out when you find your space. Sit with your legs stretched out in front of you. If you don't.. someone will plunk their Asteriks right in front you & practically sit on your lap. ( then try to wedge their family in there with them, No kidding.... But all that aside,
Its a great show, not sure if its better than the one at Disney Studios or not. I prefer the seating arrangements in DS. But Disney does a good job of controlling the places to sit & watch vs the stand & watch.

Thanks for the tips! I think I will go ahead and do Six Flags on Friday and maybe head out to Pacific Pier at night. I just don't feel like fighting L.A. traffic back to Anaheim. I'm pretty tall, so I guess if all else fails, I can stand behind the short people and watch Fantasmic!

Getting to DL from MM on a Friday is adverturous at best and torturous at worst. The fireworks are visable from most of the park. Depending on whether you really need to be in front of the castle for fireworks we usually find a spot that has a good view of the Fantasmic show and watch the fireworks from there. If you get there early enough you can get a spot away from the trees and still be in front of one of the three "water screens" for the fantasmic show. The fireworks go off from behind toontown so just make sure you can see Small World or that general direction.

The crowds are thick between Main Street and the river so getting a good view of Fantasmic is probably difficult to do if you don't get a spot early and try to just run over from somewhere else.

I'd try both on the same night. If it's the second Fantasmic! of the night, it shouldn't be too bad. You shouldn't have much trouble if you don't mind standing. We are usually able to walk right up for the second showing a few minutes ahead of time. Have fun!

I've changed my plans. I'm going to Knott's that day and taking the bus. I'm planning on leaving around 3 or 4 pm. During that time, I can knock out the park in 1/2 day. I'm really just interested in riding the Sierra Sidewinder. Even with traffic, I think I can make it back to DL around 6 pm, do a few rides, and enjoy the fireworks.
