Paradise Bay has been drained! About This Page:

I can't find any mention of this online or photos, but a friend of mine ( Mari) was at Disneyland yesterday and her photos show Paradise Bay in front of the Sun Wheel all fully drained, as part of the major update work that they're doing in the California Adventure. Oh my goodness, it looks horrible with no water in.

There is no target date. They are completely "retheming" the park and adding another "land". The work is going to gradually take place over the next "several" years.

We were at Disneyland and California Adventure the first week of December. The area does really look strange without the water.

In the Golden Vine Winery area they opened Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar which is a preview center showing models, drawings and Imagineering concepts of the upcoming changes. It was indicated that the major park improvement project is scheduled to be finished in 2012.

There is going to be a nighttime show at Paradise Pier called "Disney's World of Color." It will feature water effects, lighting and music. Maybe that show will be located in or around the current location of Paradise Bay in front of the Sun Wheel. It sounds similar to Fantasmic.

The preview center was very interesting and the upcoming changes look great!

It will be in the "lagoon" with viewing around the outside, much like Fantasmic.

When we were at DL this past Thanksgiving Day, we talked to a couple of CM’s who were working in the Blue Sky Cellar, there will be a light, water and fire show in the lagoon that will equal or surpass the Fantasmic show in Disneyland. According to these CM’s, they hope that they will be finished with the lagoon by 2010 but most of that will depend upon how they progress with the farris wheel because the lagoon must remain dry for that work to be done.

I figure the easiest way to answer the question about what's happening over the next few years is to share the photos we got at the Blue Sky Cellar in October, as that's got a lot of images of how it will look and we also photographed some of the text, detailing what will be happening and by when:



From memory, Cars Land will be the last thing to open in 2012, the Little Mermaid will open in 2011 sometime (where Golden Dreams was) and the new night-time spectacular on Paradise Bay - presumably what they're working on now - will be available from spring 2010. Then there are lots of other changes and updates to existing rides, but those are the main new additions.

That was our thought as well. The Cast Member we spoke to kept telling us it would be very different, but we couldn't see it.
