I absolutely love Halloween/Fall at Disney, so don't get me wrong here, but is anyone else none too thrilled about the Haunted Mansion/Nightmare Before Christmas overlay? We went a couple years ago in the fall and just went, "huh?! " as we went through. We're going again in a month and I'm trying to keep an open mind, but in my heart, I'm just a little disappointed with the theme, maybe I'm a purist at heart or a snob, lol. Any one else feel this way, or is it me? Or else, please, help me learn to like it.

For some reason I never got around to seeing Nightmare Before Christmas, so it's all a big Huh? for me, too. I'm not opposed to it, but I don't get the thrill from it that I suppose the movie would've given me, I guess.

I've only seen the overlay once, but I loved it...though, I also LOVE Nightmare Before Christmas so I'm already connected to those characters. For me, it's a nice change of pace. I wish WDW would try out something like that for the holiday season.
At first I didn't like it just because I didn't like the fact that they dared to mess with the original But we really like Nightmare Before Christmas so it grew on me. I love the Haunted Gingerbread House they put in.
I've seen the movie and I like it well enough, but there is just something about the overlay that I just don't get. Maybe if I ride the ride several time this trip it'll grow on me too!

We love Nightmare before Christmas....but this will be my first time going to WDW in October, What do they do differently to the haunted mansion?
Nothing changes at the Haunted Mansion at WDW. :
They do a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay at the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland every year. They run it from the last weekend in September through the first weekend in January.
Location: Granada Hills, California (1hr from Disneyland)

HMH is my favorite. I just love how it makes it like the movie has come alive in the HM. I love how everything is done in rhyme. I love the original version too, but can't wait for this time of year for HMH.

DH loves it. I'm OK with it. I think it actually works better during Christmas, which is when we go, since the point of the movie is "Halloween" trying to put on Christmas. So the HM could be attempting to put on Christmas, in their fashion!
But, I love the original and miss it, since we always go in Dec now. Not everyone is going to love it, but I certainly appreciate that they make all these changes (Space Mt and Small World), when WDW doesn't....
There is nothing to "get" with the HM overlay. It is what it is. Frankly, I find the original HM rather boring and not scary at all. At best, it is a brief rest for my feet or a respite from the heat. I love the change of pace the NBC overlay represents. I eagerly anticipate the changes I have heard about that are coming (as with Pirates, it is expected that HM will emulate the new HM movie that is REALLY supposed to be scary). I think Disney is spot on in their strategy of updating attractions to keep guests coming back aqain and again. As an AP holder, my main complaint now is the steep price they are charging for admittance to the Trick or Treat party that is now moved to DL. If you're not attending on particular dates, there is no discount. For the price paid for unlimited access by PAP holders, having to pay this steep extra premium spoils it for me.
I look forward every year to the overlay now. The very first year they did it, I couldn't get enough of it. My jaw dropped the first time I saw it because it was just amazing to me how much they "changed" the look of everything to make the movie concept alive in the attraction. Every year they seem to tweak it a bit, so for those of us lucky enough to see it every year, we can look for those changes.
Now that I've seen it for several years now, the change isn't as jaw dropping anymore, but I still very much look forward to it. We were there on Sunday, the first weekend it opened, and the line was probably the longest I've seen it, winding out and around the fountain area next to the attraction.

We had never seen the overlay. We went last Saturday and ended going on HM and SM twice. The HM overlay to me was amazing, comparing to the original. The time and effort they put into it must have been intense. Just WOW. My DH has not seen it yet, we are excited to share it with him also. SM was cool but I like th original better.
I just went to HM last week and frankly the overlay was just annoying, as I hadn't visited the original in ages and am not at all familiar with the movie. To each his own, though...I know lots of people enjoy it--it's just not my thing, and I wouldn't expect them to drop it just for little ol' me.
