If you took the train, you'd have no idea about the car (and lorry) service, as you catch the train from either London, Ashford and now Ebbsfleet. All are at least 20 miles from Folkestone, where you catch the car service. Essentially, you board the car service at the entrance to the tunnel, whereas you board the train much further up the line.

We just got back and all I'll say at the moment, because I don't want to spoil any of the surprises, is that I had the most magical birthday weekend and we had some truly wonderful times with Sabine and her DH. It was a complete blast and I'm so glad we went.

I don't know when I'll be able to start the full trip report, as obviously we're now in the run-up to Christmas and then on Boxing Day (day after Christmas for all non-Brits), we're off to see my parents for a few days, so bear with me - I will start on this report as soon as I can. It just may take a few days.
