Park hopping question

I should know the answer to this so I will appologze now for the silly question. I was considering not getting the park hopper. Can I dine at the yacht club and then go to magic kingdom for a cruise or parade or is this entering two parks? I am trying to save money but sticking to one park is hard.

Child ID tags??

Could anyone give me some suggestions on child ID tags? I'm not sure my DD who is 2, will let me hang one around her neck. So I was thinking about the ones that attach to their shoes maybe? Not real keen on the printed shirt ones either. I hope to find something that is pretty obvious but not so distracting that she would pull on it and try to rip it off.
Now trust me........ I plan on having quite a firm grip on her while she is not in her stroller;). However she is it at that perfect "wiggle, squirm, take off and run to the high heavens age" if ya know what I mean:smirk:.

Oh and BTW...........guess who got some Disney mail today????? That's right......this gal!!:D Can you tell I'm excited????

Thanks again for all the help I have recived from ALL of you during my planning. I would try a trip report, but I think I am not that computer savy to figure it out:crazy:

I had a thought as i read the all ears article tonight about the osborne lights. I think it might be a neat idea to print out articles that provide trivia or interesting background info for our parents who are accompanying us to disney for their first (and first for our kids) Christmastime visit. Anyone have any links or thoughts to pass the time on the plane and make some of the sights more enjoyable?

Dos & Don'ts of Taking a Trip to Disney World - Associated Content - associate (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1582573/dos_donts_of_taking_a_trip_to_disney.html?cat=16)

Just above the bottom of page one, above the videos, is where you click to get to page 2 and not at the bottom as in many cases.

I do have one comment on article #10 on the drinking water from the carts which might be different from DLR in Anaheim. I am referring to DLR now, on the below.

At the carts they do not carry water, as such, to fill your cup, but, instead they will give you ice in a cup and direct you to a water fountain. The only water is bottled water which is sold.

If you go to the First Aid Station at DLR they will give you _purified_ chilled water (not iced) in any amount. They will fill and/or refill thermosts, your carry on a strap jugs, kids canteens, etc. Ice is available for emergencies.

I would imagine that if you wanted purified iced water is to ask one of the carts for ice and then you combine them. If you are satisifed with the park water then use the fountains.

Possibly a CM or a passporter going to WDW in the near future can verify if the carts give both ice and water at the same time. Check if WDW Fiirst Aid Station offers the chilled purified water.

Because of the different flu bugs going around the country and possible contaminatrion of lips on the fountains that parents would be concerned and take better preventive action. Maybe the purified water is a better alternative action.

If you get ice from the carts you might want to check and see what type container it is in. Hopefully not where their cans and bottles were being chilled???

I am not criticizing the quality of water in either park as it is up and above standards. It's the flu bug flying around from whom knows where and from whom to whom.

Okay CMs and passporters let us all know. I am sure parents and all of us are concerned. Both DLR and WDW and elsewhere.

Measuring kids for rides?

My ds- 3 finally reached the 40inch mark! I've been SO excited for all the rides that opens up for him! However, now that were just a few days away, I'm a little nervous because he isn't much over 40inches. He measures 40 and 1/2 inches on our measuring tape. At the pediatrician a few weeks ago, he measured 40 exact , but that was w/out shoes. Sooo....... For those of you w/ experience; a few questions:
Does Disney's measuring sticks seems to be accurate?
I know their measuring sticks are set up like a T; is it ok if they are right on the mark or is the rule that you can't fit under the 'T'? (hope that makes sense)
I think he's gonna be ok and we've been practicing "standing tall"; but I am a little nervous since he isn't much over 40 in.
I drew a pencil line on the wall w/ the measure tape at 40in and then stood him against it- when he stands against the wall; he's tall enough that you can't see the line at all:) So, hopefully he will be ok!

We watched Tinkerbell's new movie and noticed she wears a new costume in the movie. It is basically the same except she has pants and boots. My wife remarked it would be neat if she wore that outfit during the Winter months at Pixie Hollow where you can meet her.

Anyone think this may happen? I personally prefer her old costume with the skirt.

Does anyone know when COP closes on the nights they have MVMCP? I'm trying to finalize some last details for my upcoming trip when Sharon, Heather, and I will try to break the record for the Ultimate Magic Kingdom touring plan, and closing times are really throwing me off. I've also heard that the Main Street Vehicles close at 10:30 AM now because of the castle stage show. Is that right?

Alternatively, if anyone is planning at being at Magic Kingdom before a MVMCP in the next couple of weeks, they could check on the closing time for COP and the Main Street Vehicles, the timing of when Hall of President's shows begin, and whether or not you can see Tiana's Steamboat Revue from Tom Sawyer's Island! :p (Just kidding on that request y'all!... kind of)

My dad is joining us for our upcoming trip! He has rheumothoid arthritis and a heart condition, so he I'm guessing he will only be in the parks for short periods of time. He needs a scooter, but he does not want one. He has NEVER been to WDW! I've only been once, so I'm far from experienced. He's almost 60 and a nature/animal lover (think AK). SO- since I know he will probably not last long in the parks, I want to make sure he expereinces the very best Disney has to offer! I'm thinking of picking the top 5 shows/rides at each park so that we can make sure to hit those up first thing everyday in case he doesn't hold out long....... I know he will LOVE kilimanjaro safari and I expect he will like Soarin' also! So, I'd appreciate some ideas for the top 5 in each park knowing this will likely be his one and only (ever) trip to WDW! Thanks in advance......

Backpack question

When we go to WDW in a few days, we will have DD's wheelchair with us. She normally uses a pink Jansport backpack and a fanny pack on the chair to hold her stuff. I am wondering if that will be enough. I was thinking about taking another backpack into the parks for me to carry, but I am thinking her bags should be plenty. Then it isn't really one of us carrying it. We can take it off to go on the rides, so if we leave valuables in the bag we don't have to worry about them.

What do you think? Is one backpack enough for three people?

I do remember reading that the gingerbread house in the GF is not to be missed.

I read conflicting reports as to how early you need to get in line for Fantasmic.

We're like 1st timers, going in mid-May, and Fantasmic is scheduled for 9 PM.

Should we plan to get in line 2 hours before? Or is it 2 hours before they open the doors, so that means THREE hours before 9 PM? Can we get away with 1 1/2 hours before?

Or does doing the Fantasmic dining package REALLy cut the wait time down and we should just do that?

We would prefer to go to 50's Prime Time to eat, and we suspect the extra wait time wouldn't be that much, but we're just not sure.

Thanks for your help!

Lights of Winter???

Just read over at wdwmagic.com that there is a possibility that the Lights of Winter at Epcot will not return this year. Apparently there has been no mention of them in any press releases, and they are not in their usual staging area in the parking lot. There are also rumors from CM's that Disney decided to put a stop to it due to the lack of LED's and their "green" initiative.

Now I really hope this is all bad information and we start to see them go up soon, as there is certainly time. However, what do you all think about this possible loss? Personally I think the LoW are what makes Epcot great during the holidays. The tree lighting ceremony has already been lost, but this display rivals the Osbourne lights in a much smaller space (IMHO).

We are currently up in the air on our December trip, due to canceled flights and overall cost. Unfortunately, this might be the final straw as we are primarily going to see the holiday offerings. It's a shame to think Disney might be making this decision based on cost as opposed to what most guests would like to see.

Again, just a rumor and hope it's completely false!

MVMCP for Toddlers?

Hi Everyone-

We are hopefully heading down to WDW for a few days in early December (not totally set yet due to Airtran cancelling flights, but that's another story). We have been there during Christmas week, but never with our daughter during the holidays. She will only be 17 months old, but she's already been there twice and we really think she will get a kick out of all the decorations and lights.

Do you think MVMCP will be worth it for us? It will cost a little over $100 for our two tickets. We currently have plans to give her plenty of nap time in the afternoon before heading back to MK around 6:00. Even with the extra sleep, she is unlikely to make it past 9:00-10:00, which should allow us to make it for the fireworks. So that would give us approximately 2-3 hours of actual "party" time that we are paying for.

We would like her to get to see both the Christmas parade and Holiday Wishes, and this would be the only way to accomplish that (although we could see the fireworks from the Poly). We're just not sure if we are going to get enough out of it to justify the price.

Any insight would be much appreciated!

I need to pre order the photopass cd for our upcoming trip. I know there use to be a special link to preorder it (and there was even a sticky on it, but I can't find it). I remember reading a post a few weeks back that they have changed this up and you are suppose to recieve an email about preordering IF you book direct with Disney. I DID book direct with disney and I might have (but not for sure) got said email:o. At the time I didn't know about the policy change, so I didnt read it very well because I wasn't ready to order it and I deleted it:eek:. SO- now what? Surely there is a way I can still preorder for the discounted rate since I booked w/ Disney:confused:

I'm curious as to what area in each park is your favorite and why. Do you have a favorite walkway, entrance/exit, off the beaten path area??? Let's hear it.

I  the area of DHS where Mama Melrose and the Christmas store are. Not sure why, I just love it back there.
My favorite part of Epcot is the English garden, it always seems so peaceful even when the park is packed.
In MK, I love any and everything about Main Street!!

40 Inches Seems to Be the Magic Number

We'll be going to DW Nov 30- Dec. 5.
I have a 2.5 yr old and a 4 yr old.
My 4 yr old is over 40 inches, but the 2.5 yr old is still at about 38 inches.

40 inches seems to be the magic number that allows you to ride on pretty much everything. (a few exceptions, but most of those would be too much for him).

Unfortunately under 40 inches really limits toddlers on what they can ride. (No star tours for instance).

Have May 2010 hours from Disney!!!
Now I am struck by the lack of EMH hours. What gives? I know from last year Disney is conservative on hours till a month to 2 weeks out and then will expand them....but I dont remember them adding pm emh's...Tues 25th and Thurs 27th have no EMH evening hours - I havent seen that in my 2 year Disney knowledge... It even surprises me that there aren't morning emh every morning too.....

What should I expect going forward with hour changes? I understand they typically wont cut..... but based on this I am tempted to make more evening dining ressies b/c of the non emh hours.....

Advice pper's?

Planning our itinerary for our upcoming trip (which is only 50 days away!!!!:eek::eek:) Okay.... mild panic. I'm calm now... Anyway, planning a DHS day for X-mas day. Right now the park will be open 9-9 with OsB Lights starting at 6:00 and Fantasmic showing at 6:30 and 8:00pm. Would like to see both since we are only doign the one day at HS. Which would you recommend? 1) Seeing the OsB Lights first and doing the 2nd Fantasmic show? OR 2) Plan to do the 6:30 Fanasmic show (which would mean getting in line around 4:30 :jawdrop:!), and then see the OsB Lights afterwards? I am anticipating both to be hugely crowded, but is there any chance that one would be a little less so at the particular time of day? Sorry this is so long, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

DBF is a HUGE Beatles fan and one of the things we definitely want to do on this trip is see The British Invasion. So far it looks like the only day they are doing any performances is on the Saturday that we arrive. I currently have that day scheduled for Epcot, but I was thinking of exchanging that day with one of our MK days so we could meet up with a fellow PP and her family.

Is it possible that BI will be playing later in the week also and just not have it on the schedule?

I booked my Segway tour today (with a not-so-friendly CM:(). He seemed grumpy when I asked him questions so I just stopped asking and decided to ask my Pass Porter experts ;) instead.
I booked it for 8:30 AM. I'm staying at CR. I learned from postings on the "planning" page that I'll need to take a taxi b/c Disney Transportation won't start early enough for us to get there on time. Can someone please tell me what time I'll need to be at the Epcot gate and what time I should plan to get into a taxi from CR to make it there on time. Where do I go once i'm inside the gate. One posting said that there will be a CM to tell me where to go, but I'd like to know in advance.
If anyone knows the taxi cost that would be helpful too. And how do I arrange for a taxi to pick us up at that exact time?
What else do I need to know about the Segway tour that Mr. Grumpy didn't tell me? I know it's two hours and drops off at illuminations at the end.
Thank you.

three people on together. We're going to WDW in less then 3 weeks and there are 5 of us me, DH, DS8, DD5, and DS3.5, now that DS3.5 has reached the 40 inch mark he can go on many of the rides he couldn't go on last time. This presents us with the problem of 2 adults and 3 kids = not enough grownups per kid. What rides will accommodate 3 people sitting together (1 adult and 2 children). Can we fit on SplashM and BTMR. What about Goofy's Barnstormer, can I put my 8 y/o by himself or do I sit the 8y/o and 5y/o together. I have no idea what to do :help:
Also which of the 40 inch rides would you NOT do with a 3.5y/o, he's sort of middle of the road when it comes to fearlessness and being cautious (not overly cautious and not too fearless) He's been on small roller coasters and liked it. Any insight would help TIA Jen :)

Normally we do not go to a park with EMHs, but I'm finding that I might need to break the rule. I'm talking about Epcot on Thursday, April 8th--yes, crazy busy! The plan would be to tour WS starting at 11am (I'm trying to have this as a "sleep in day".), then have dinner at 7:00, then leave. Early in the day, we might venture into FW to get a FP or two for later use, but we wouldn't plan on being in FW during the evening EMH. We'll be gone by then. Do you think that would be OK?

Mission: Space -- which one?

I've started pulling together things to be packed (like sunblock, Glide, the photographer's vest someone on these boards suggested and, of course, Ziploc bags), confirmed everything, and am getting ready to head off to Florida after ten months' planning and anticipation.

One question, though, remains: which version of Mission: Space should I try?

I usually have no problem at all with motion sickness: I've even done our Space Mountain right after a large dinner. The one teensy proviso is that, last week, I sort of overdid it a bit on the Teacups -- although that's because I was foolish enough to keep looking up. Even that didn't make me sick, just the slightest bit woozy for a while. That, however, didn't stop me from going to have a large dinner an hour later.

I think that makes me a candidate for the spinning version, right? The books (of which I've read too many) make me a little nervous, though: I don't want ride the ride then go and throw up my continental breakfast on the dolphins when I visit with them.

Thanks for the advice. I won't hold the "wrong" answer against anyone.

Can anyone convince me that I won't fall off the ride and kill myself? Do you feel like you're really high in the air?

Any tips on getting through this attraction without sedatives?

Design your own (fill in the blank) at Innoventions

I'm not sure if anyone's posted on this yet, so I thought I'd start a thread.

We were at the world this weekend, and wandered into the Innoventions that's over by Test Track (I can never sort out east from west). Anyway, in the location where they used to have "build your own robot", they've opened the "Sum of all Thrills". It's a really cool activity that's sponsored by Raytheon. They have four large robots with simulators on the end (seating two people). You wait in line, and go into a briefing room, where they explain all the cool things engineers get to do (And since I'm an engineer by degree, that was cool). Then you go out to a design table and get to build your experience. You can do a jet, a roller coaster, or a bobsled. It all gets downloaded onto a card (just like your park pass), then you go up to one of the robots, and get to ride out your design.

Once you're home, you can log on to a website and build designs there, so you can skip the design table.

Both my kids tried it and they really liked it. DD waited about 20 - 25 minutes from the time we got in line until she was in the robot. DS went on his own, so I don't know how long he waited. I didn't ride because simulators mess with my head, but they both said it was lots of fun.

I'll upload a few pictures later on, but I wanted to share!

Hypothetical Fantasmic Question

I have been closely watching the DHS Calendar as they continue to add more Fantasmic! shows for November....I am hopeful they add a couple more during my short trip down next month. We will be there 11/18-11/22 and at the moment, there is only a 6:30 show. However, the weeks previous, they have added a few 8pm shows, too.

So, if they add shows and the choice is between 6:30pm and 8pm....which do you think would be less hectic to go to. People usually say the second show is less chaotic but since both are relatively early I am wondering if would be true???

Thx,

Danielle

We're going to do some volunteering and participate in the Give A Day, Get A Disney Day promotion. Originally, I was all set to go to MK, but 2 of the things I was really counting on there are going to be closed. Now, I'm torn on which park to visit (the voucher is strictly for a one day, one park ticket). There are at least 2-3 things in each park that we've never done or haven't done in years. Everytime I settle on a new one, I get heartsick about something I'll miss at another (I know I need to stop thinking about it that way ). And, yes, we will literally only be there the one day.

How would you go about deciding this? List attractions and rate them? Pick the one w/ the longest hours that day? Draw a name outta a hat?

Crowd Comparisons Memorial Day weekend vs Christmas week

We have always gone to Disney over Memorial Day weekend and the following week. Crowds have been big but doable. We have always gotten to ride all we wanted utilizing FPs. We are taking a quick trip to Florida the day after Christmas for 4 days, originally we planned on doing Universal Studios but are staying at Coronado Springs as a surprise trip for our girls. Dh came to me this morning and said he thinks we should do Disney instead of Universal since we know Disney and havent done Universal yet. He is afraid the girls with be dissapointed to stay at Disney and not do their favorite rides.

So realistically how do the crowds compare between the two weeks. We will do one day at MK and one at HS. Is there someplace that shows what parks have closed to capacity on which days? We typically do early morning at a park, back to the hotel to swim, back out to the park in the evening. But I am afraid if we leave it will close and we wont get back in.

Crowds 2nd Week of December & Itinerary

My first December trip! :D I'm so excited, but also a little nervous since I've been reading that crowds are getting heavier that time of year now. Also, all the onsite resorts are full (I've been trying to upgrade to a Mod without any success). I know, I know, better to be in crowded Disney than at home, right?
But, what are your thoughts here in this forum? I'll go Dec 5th thru the 13th, and this is my itinerary (all my ADRs are done too!):

Dec 5th
Arrive at noon, check-in at ASMu. Go to Downtown, dine early at T-Rex.

Dec 6th
AK, arrive not later than 9:30am.
Dinner at Boma.

Dec 7th
Epcot, arrive not later than 9:30am.
Focus on Future World, dine at Flying Fish. See if at least we can hear the last CP show at 8pm.

Dec 8th
Sleep in, breakfast at Wolfang Puck Express, and do some shopping!
Dine at Narcoossee's.
Catch up Electrical Water Peagant, if not too late, ride the monorail to Epcot, and catch a bus there to ASMu.

Dec 9th.
MK day! Be there at rope drop.
Early dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern so we can watch the SpectroMagic parade!

Dec 10th
Sleep in.
DHS today, arrive before noon. This day worries me since it has Fantasmic! but it's a most do, let's see if the park doesn't get too crowded.
After DHS closes, hit Downtown Disney and dine at Earl's.

Dec 11th
MK again, but no rope drop today, must likely too tired at this point! Sleep in then.
Repeat all the favorites! Today is MVMCP, so I have no idea how the crowds will behave! Leave at 7pm for dining at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Dec 12th
Epcot, also sleep in, I know by previous trips that each day it just gets harder to wake up early!
Focus on WS. Dine at Le Cellier, at last! last trips only for lunch, now finally I'll get to try the mushroom filet! Bring it on!!!

Dec 13th
Goodbye :(

If you can't see 3D (DSS can't since he's blind in his right eye, or at least that is what he says) is TSMM still fun? We have to admit, he has only tried 3D experiences where one lense is red and one blue...but I don't think that is how the glasses work in WDW.

Will he enjoy the ride even if he can't see? Might he be able to enjoy the 3D anyway?

Official Dates for Xmas Parade taping

Hopefully this hasn't already been posted. :)

I just got a notification from ALLEars on Facebook, and it says the Christmas Parade will be taped Dec. 3, 4, AND 5th. Here's the link the notification gave: Online Registration (http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?CHECKSSO=0&EVENT_ID=1804465)

I was glad that we were leaving on the 5th (Saturday), so I thought we would be missing it. Now I'm very worried - our trip is only 5 days anyway, that sounds like it will really cut down on some of our MK time. :( Should I be worried about the crowds?

OMG, We broke Nemo!

OMG, We broke Nemo! Well, we didn't actually break the Nemo & Friends ride at Epcot but we did cause it to be temporarily stopped. I used the new 3-in-1 "Love the Planet" bag I got this summer at WDW as a backpack this past weekend. It has little mess pockets on the side to put things like say a water bottle in. Yeah, well, nothing really stays in these pockets. I should have known this since I had placed my sunglasses in the pocket when we left the house and in the Atlanta airport I realized I had already lost them. Anyway, as we were getting off the ride, DD#2 was carrying the backpack and I noticed/heard something dropped but when I was looking for it I couldn't find anything on the conveyor belt so I kept on going. DD#2 told me the waterbottle fell out and rolled under one of the clam mobiles. They had to stop the ride to retrieve the bottle. I was so embarrassed!!!
