Family trip to Europe!

Before my husband passed away, I promised him that I would take our boys on a trip to Europe when I retired. This was something that we had talked about for a long time but the circumstances/finances never seemed right. Losing Steve brought home the fragility of life and the possibility that time will run out before you do all the things you want to. So this year I am biting the bullet, selling Disney stock!, and taking my three sons, and middle son's fiance to Europe for 17 days in June.
( Youngest son and I are adding in an extra day to visit Paris Disneyland;)).
I am so excited! This won't be a first class tour, or even go to all the sights that everyone requested (can't work in Berlin, Moscow and Norway on this jaunt:tongue:) but it will give them an overview that hopefully will whet their appetites to do more traveling to other countries. Working this in between jobs and college and high school has been tricky although it seems to be coming together now.
Only thing is that the cost kind of rules out a trip to the World this year......oh well, that day in PDL will have to suffice for now.
Wish us luck!

We are going to St. Louis this weekend and I'm curious about what to do with a 4 and 5 year old. Is Grant's Farm still open? I was curious I've heard good things about Fitz's restaurant. Rachel Ray is on the Fitz's website, so it's gotta be good. Has anyone been to Aquaport, or the Butterfly House? I've also heard that they don't have the McDonald's on the river anymore:( Is that true? If anybody has been to these places let me know how you liked them. Thanks!!!:D

My parents just came to visit. They are in their 70's and my mother wanted a noticble place to keep her medicine while she was here, but I was worried about my Papillion (5 lb. Dog) jumping on the bed and then the dresser and getting in to her medicine. So my mother had a great idea! She used the ironing board and put it up very high. The dog could not jump up to get the medicines, it took up just a narrow amount of space, and was easy to set up and take down!
 I wonder why we hadn't thought of this when my daughter was younger. Perhaps they didn't take as much medicine? I am not sure if I would trust the ironing board idea if a toddler were crawling around because it might be easy to tip over, but otherwise, that would be a good way to keep it out of reach.

 Just BTW-if anyone knows how I could find out about a place to board my dog in Puerto Rico, please PM me or let me know.

We're taking the plunge and doing an Alaskan cruise for my parents 30th anniversary next summer. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has done a land or cruise vacation to Alaska and visited the following cities:

Ketchikan
Skagway
Juneau
Victoria

What did you do? Did you enjoy it? I have done a lot of research about what is generally available in each port and would just like to hear from those who have actually done some activities there.

Thank you!

Surprising DH in Jan 2010

Looking for some advice on whether I should try to surprise DH for christmas.
DH is notoriously analytical and works very hard in our own business. 2009 saw us move away from family and friends to purchase another business across the country and he has struggled being away from everyone. DH has also dealt with the sale of our other businesses back in our home state so he has travelled several times back to visit and this makes his homesickness a little better. The final sale occurs on Nov 16 and then there is no need for further business trips...except to visit his folks.
Here's where I need help - should I secretly plan a trip to Hong Kong DL for us and the kids for end of January (our restaurant business volume slows around then after christmas craziness) or plan a boys weekend with his friends back in Sydney and let him organise the when/how after surprising him on christmas day OR wait until our anniversary in Sept and plan a family Disney cruise that he's been wanting to try for ages (bear in mind that to cruise it will cost approx $10000 in airfares just to get to/from the USA)?
Whilst money isn't too restrictive, neither one of us spends recklessly and would rather "do it right" than blow it all by not thinking it through - consider weather, Disney deals, crowds and price - I'm so lost!
See I told you I needed help!

Caribbean All-inclusive help!!!

Dh & I have decided on an "outer" caribbean island for our 10th anniversary in June. We will be traveling on a Wednesday through Monday, just the two of us (no kids :D). I have no idea how to even start to find a good all inclusive resort or which island to go to for that matter. A lot of people have suggested Aruba so we are open to that.

We are not really "sportsy" people, so no golf or tennis 'needed', we pretty much are looking for a place with a beach, nice rooms, romantic, more then just buffet options for dining, and it has to have a pool bar (DH's requirement...ok, mine too!!!:p) Any suggestions?

Also, I have been browsing the Sandals Resorts site and really like the looks of their resorts (although they don't have one on Aruba, there is St. Lucia and Antigua which are definately options) has anyone stayed there? Is it "truely" all-inclusive? Any pros and cons would be VERY welcome!!

Doing volunteer work while in jamaica? Anyone do this???

Scarlett and I decided to go to Jamaica instead of Disney. She said she wants to go somewhere with a kids camp and a beach. So I found a few resorts in Montego Bay. I thought since she will miss a week of school (not a biggie at age 5 but still) we could learn about the culture and do some volunteer work at a local orphanage or school and bring some items with us. Anyone else do this? and if so, how did you go about getting the plan set up

Which Caribbean Island Should We Go To?

DH & I are trying to plan a vacation for us and our friends (2 adults/2 kids - 15 & 13) to somewhere in the Caribbean for next Spring. We are looking for suggestions on which island we should try. We were thinking of Aruba or St. Maarten, but then started to think about trying either Barbados or St. Lucia. So now, we're all confused...that's why I came here! This is a 1st trip to the Caribbean for all of us (minus cruising - 1st trip to the Caribbean island - staying on that island for a week, instead of 4 hours).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!:D Thanks!

I'm planning a trip to Vegas the first week of December and got what I think is a good rate (just over $550) from expedia.

Any suggestions on a stuff for a solo guy to do while there(besides the usual casinos and such)? I wasn't planning on renting a car, but might if the event/attraction sounds worth it -- otherwise was planning on relying on the monorail/taxis.

This will be my first time, but it's not booked yet, wanted to get some suggestions and such first.

Thanks, passporters!

I was wondering if anyone here has ever stayed at fdr pebbles resort or franklyn d resort. The reviews are pretty good and I found an outrageously cheap deal with my travel agent. Airfare to Puerto Plata, all inclusive 7 nights and a personal nanny dedicated to my daughter and myself for the entire stay. Grand total??????? $2100!!!! I think its a way better deal than my plan to visit Disney in Feb.

Just wondering, is there anyone headed to either of these two upcoming events in Boston? The Comic Con is this weekend, and the Super Mega Fest, I believe is in November...

I think I am going to miss the Comic Con :( But might just be able to get to the Mega Fest!
