Looks like Disney World is going to have more competition but its not going to be a pushover for them like Universal. This is Dubailand. The largest entertainment and theme park complex on the planet or at least when it opens. Measured to be twice the size of Walt Disney World. You have to look at the models to believe it . Now I am not going to the middle east to visit a theme park due to the easily apparent conflicts going on there. Even though this project is the most tempting thing I have ever laid my eyes on.

This is probably the strangest thread I have written. Though It asks you to guess what would Disney World be like if Walt had lived for the rest of the 20th century. I don't think its for the better however. I think that a lot of what we love would be drastically different. Walt was more focused on educating the masses and I think his take on Disney would have been much tamer than what we have. The current WDW is more focused on the entertainment value and the latest ride technologies and innovations.

I think Walt may have developed some more good ideas. Though at the expense we probably wouldn't have a lot of the things we already love about Disney. The layout and size of Walt Disney World under Walt was planned out much differently than the final result. Keep in mind that Walt didn't have the ideas for most of the current hotels, the water parks, Hollywood Studios, or Animal Kingdom in his head either so think about the existence of those things.

Disney Blu-ray Upgrade Program

Not exactly sure where to put this - mods please move if you see fit. :)

This might be of interest to those who, like our family, have already made the upgrade to Bluray.

We purchased the Up Bluray at Walmart last night. When we opened it up to watch last night, DH pointed out an advert inside that talks about this new program. From what I can gather, if you own a Disney VHS or DVD, and that movie is released on Bluray, you can enter the UPC code from your old movie and Disney will send you an $8 coupon towards the new Bluray. A pretty good deal! The system doesn't look to be fully operational yet, it just says "Coming soon" on the site, with the exception of Monsters Inc. We've already replaced several Disney DVD's with their Bluray counterparts, so we'll definitely be keeping an eye out for when this program gets fully underway. :waytogo:

I've read in various articles cant remember which ones specifically that Disney purchased the rights to many of Fleischers cartoons and characters, Winsor Mccay's work, and managed to buy back Oswald.

Yet they have refused or are not interested in showcasing this work or re-introducing it to the public. They have owned the rights to these products for sometime now and I just wish that Disney would bring back some of these characters in the parks or even on film.

After all Winsor Mccay and Max Fleischer where Walt's initial influences for going into the industry.

Also Oswald was a prototype to Mickey as you can clearly see by the designs.

So their importance is significant.

With my CPA exam coming up, I need to take a few Sundays off here and there, this being one of them. I'll keep everyone posted, but it should be bi-weekly for just a month or two. PLease stay and chat and enjoy yourself as I suffer through my horrid textbooks. Have a wonderful week!

OK Passporters, I need your help. I'm helping another line of business put together a trivia Magical Moment game, but I'm struggling. We need trivia for all ages/skill levels (they are going to be color coded green, yellow, and red) I'm looking for at least 10 questions in each level to start with, but without my Disney trivial pursuit ;), it's getting difficult. Just remember that some of our Guests are not as passionate about the World as we are, so some of them need to be eeeeeeasy.

Here's an incentive...anyone who contributes a question will go in a drawing for a little surprise! I'll have my youngest pull a name from a hat on 11/7 and contact the winner via PM.

Thank you in advance for helping make some Magical Moments!

Disney Production Troubles

I've read extensively that Disney has attempted to make several un-produced animated features that never came to fruition. Some of the ideas have been deemed to adult by Disney standards also some of them didn't receive the financial support that successful Disney films had. Or the project was given up on for any lack of faith.

I have also read that the company at some point has been in production hell with films especially in the seventies and eighties. Example conceptual work for The Black Cauldron began in the early seventies the film wasn't released until 1985. Also Sleeping Beauty began work almost a decade before it was released.

The longest production hell has to be Beauty and The Beast Walt had been interested in making an adaption since the thirties believe it or not. Then it was put on hiatus for quite a few decades, production re-initialized when Little Mermaid proved that Disney could go back into the fairy tale department. Destino has been mentioned as one of Disney's longest production periods. However Disney has a tendency to pick up on films it shelved decades earlier so Destino shouldn't really be a surprise in my opinion.

In fact Disney may resume production on film sometime soon that was shelved decades ago for all we know.

Whats your take on this?:)

Apparently, to appease parents who were going to sue because their babies aren't smarter after watching these videos, Disney is offering a refund on Baby Einstein Products.

The Associated Press: Disney expands refunds on `Baby Einstein' DVDs (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5heF9-afFbROxrDylHo8g6KntobaQD9BH325O1)

Come on ... are there really people out there who really believed that their child really would BE an Einstein if they watched these videos? I'm sorry ... I'm just amazed at this.

Why is Michael Eisner hated by the media?

The title of this thread may surprise people. Though I have been going on press websites and they have been smashing the guy there and even on here. There are people for some reason that still criticize him since he stepped down in 2005. I understand big CEO types like him become reputable targets. However if you look at it historically he helped out the company and took it to new heights.

First of the early eighties was one of the darkest times for Disney. In 1984 they were on the verge of collapse when a group of investors attempted to buy out the company. Michael Eisner reversed much of this and resurrected their animation department with Roger Rabbit, and The Little Mermaid. He expanded the companies horizons and turned the company into one of the worlds biggest media conglomerates.

Disney was successful under Walt but Eisner transformed it into a multi-billion dollar industry. He entered the company correct if I'm wrong the companies assets were in the millions. The companies current assets four years after he left are over 60 billion.

I don't trust the media all the time. If you get down to the core business details he really helped out Disney in a dark time and took it to greater heights than ever before.

My guess as to why you guys don't like him is that you want Walt's family to have owner ship and not some questionable business outsider. The family lost ownership of the company in the early eighties because they didn't have the business prowess or direction that Walt or Roy had. They agreed to hand the company to Eisner it was for the best because even though the family doesn't own the company now it is still just as great as it ever was.
