My brother just called with some horrible news. A very close friend of our family (my mom's best friend) is on the table as we speak in emergency surgery. She fell Monday night and hit her head while walking her chocolate lab. She's been ill with flu-like symptoms and the only thing her daughter did for her (who is also an RN) is give her an anti-emetic. My parents went to check on her yesterday and said she was very disoriented, etc. and they wanted to take her to the ER but she refused to go.

Luckily she got there today-and her daughter called my parents to say she's going into surgery and will be headed to the ICU afterwards-that's all she said. There's obviously more than she's letting on because you don't go to the ICU unless there's something drastic that's occurred. I'm thinking she's probably got a bleed somewhere in her brain and/or a skull fracture.

This wonderful woman is very near and dear to all of us. She hadn't been to the doctors though in almost five years so who knows exactly what hidden medical conditions she has. I will update when I have more information.

I got a phone call from my mom about an hour ago . She told me my brother got arrested again , this time i know he will be going away for a while . So my mom went on and said his ex-wife started to tell her what happend and mom said she just does not want to know , and said he is now being written off . I understand where she is comming from after his first visit of seeing him behind bars and it hurt me and mom to go see him. But i'm so confused i really agree with my mom , But he is still my brother but he needs major help first . I know the drugs he was using from what he has told me the last time and it is not the light weight stuff . This is all i need with less then 7 days before I go to my magical place . I just really wish i could just get some good news cause this stuff is starting to take it's toll on me . :(

Another Severe Weather Warning!!!

:( We are under yet another Severe Weather Warning!!! Something like our fourth in the last seven days or so!

We are used to lots of rain here in Wales, but the last few days have been just plain silly!

Extremely heavy rain coupled with winds of up to 60MPH are making things difficult on the roads, the local rivers are already swollen to almost bursting point, and I just saw my empty plastic trash can take off and land at the bottom of our garden!!!

This is our first winter in our "new" bungalow, so I really do hope the roof is as sturdy as we've been told it is by the seller!!!

Pixies for anyone who has to work outside in this or gets caught in it!!!

The dreaded day has finally come... tomorrow I start my chemo. After a wonderful Disney vacation, I had to sink back into the harsh reality of completing my breast cancer treatment. I had my port put in on Monday, and tomorrow morning I'm off to my first treatment. I'll be getting one every three weeks, for a total of four treatments. If all goes well, I'll be done by the end of January.

Naturally I'm very anxious and uptight about the weeks and months to come, especially all of the side effects. On the bright side, I suppose I'll save a few bucks on expensive hair products! I have a cute wig all ready to go, so I'll survive.

Please wish me luck! I could use all the pixies I can get!

Don't worry too much. It seems like a mild case. I just thought I'd share how awesome my ten year old is. The doctor told me first and then came into the room and told Allie that she had H1N1 and then asked if she knew what that meant.

Allie immediately shook her fist in the air and said "Stooopid Pigs!" The doctor almost fell off her chair from laughter. That's my girl! hahaha it was so funny.

Then on the way home, Allie says "Daddy, I have this sudden urge to eat a pile of bacon. Does that mean I'm a cannibal now?" LOL!!!

She might be the funniest 10 year old I know.

Thanks for all the pixies. They seem to be working!! :) Ethan had surgery last evening to remove the mass from his brain stem. It turned out to be some solid mass enclosed in fluid. I am told this is a good sign. The doctor has sent the mass to St. Jude for testing, but she felt fairly confident that it was benign. Ethan is doing fine and his parents are holding up well. He was to have another MRI this afternoon to see if they got all the mass as they believe. Please keep the pixies coming for a speedy and uneventful recovery for Ethan.

Hey!

Need some advice on purchasing a GPS system for my dd. Want to get her one for Christmas as she will begin college next year. She will be going to school about 3 hours from our home. I would like something that is simple and easy to use but that is reliable.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

We "normally" put ours up the first weekend in December and take it down on the traditional "Twelfth Night".

This year, because we'll be at WDW between 30NOV09 and 14DEC09, we've decided to put the tree up early! Which means DD gets to enjoy it for longer (she just sits and looks at it!!) and we won't have to rush so much when we get back.

Actually, we've just this minute finished!! and it looks quite good even if I do say so myself!! :D

When do you usually put your tree up? Do you have any "family traditions" relating to the tree?

Last month, I posted if anyone knew how to keep my kittens from jumping on my dining table. I had a lot of responses saying if I found a way to let them know. Well, I found it. It's a product called Sccaat that I picked up at Petsmart for about $30. It's a motion detector on a can of condensed air that sprays at the cat when activated. I used it last monday and the cats have yet to go back on the table. They were a bit freaked out for a few days, but are now back to normal. I'm also using it in the morning as the cats are not allowed in our bedroom (I'm allergic). One will sit in front of the door and meow like crazy/scratch trying to wake us up at 5:30am. My last cat did that her whole life and I don't want this to become a habit. I'd like to sleep in now and again. So far, so good.

I am so glad I am back.... I am in UIL this year and I have found out that I am on the two things I had signed up for originally.
The reason I say that is because when I started at Shiner Junior High school, I met a guy and after a while things happened that I am not going to explain, anyway the guy convenced me to do science until the the things that happened. (I did talk to mom about it, so no worries)

However, here are my results:
Calculator- I am on the team and placed sixth
Math- did not place (mostly from a different school) and made the team as alternate.

We returned home last night from Vegas only to find out that my dad has prostate cancer. He got the results of a biopsy done last week before we left. He says that the tumor is very small - about the size of a BB. :cry2::cry2:It was caught very early and his doctor does not want to do surgery now because it is so small. The plan I think is just to closely monitor it. My sister works in the medical field so she is getting info for him on possible noninvasive methods of treating it. I know it has scared him and my mom and any pixies that you can spare for him would be appreciated.

I'm wrapping up grad school and that's exciting enough! Along with that, I took the GACE English tests in October. GACE is the Georgia test that allows you to teach different subjects. I've been teaching English in middle school for the past few years and I want to move up to high school. SO today, the scores were released and I aced both Secondary education tests! Now, I can finally leave the middle school and move up to high school!

What a relief!

We did this in a class last year and I was surprised at the discussion.
1. What foods MUST be on the table for your family celebrations?
2. Are there any items that are still in this category even though no one in the family eats/likes it, but tradition says it must be there?

For us, there must be cheese grits, deviled eggs, pink fluff salad, mom's version of waldorf salad, and jeff davis pie. the orange jello, shredded carrot, mandrin orange salad mom always made for my son got to go away when she passed away. he never liked it but ate it because she made it for him special because she thought he liked it.

First off, I have to say I know we're lucky that we have jobs when so many don't, but Lenny came home and told me his hours have been cut....AGAIN. This is twice in about 6 months. First he was cut from 40 to 36 hours. Now he's been cut down to 30. What he was bringing home was barely making the bills as it was. Now I have no idea what I'm going to do. I have so many circumastances to work around that there is no good option for me. Abby, as many of you know is Autistic and even being mild, she takes up a lot of my time. Lenny absolutley sucks at taking care of her. He's good to her, but he gets so focused on his own things that he tends to either ignore her or totally lose patience with her which leads to him being totally PO'd with Abby and her screaming and crying. My mother is good with her....sometimes. Mom works from 6 am to 2:30 pm, but the rest of her day is literally spent sleeping. She'll come home and sit in her recliner and sleep until 8 or 9 pm. Then she'll get up, let the dogs out, then go to bed for the night. In the nice weather on weekends, mom will spend some of the day (mabye 3 or 4 hours) outside, but the rest of the day is spent, you guessed it, sleeping. I already work during the day at school so I'm not going to leave there. So really my only choices are to get a second job and pay a comptent babysitter (I don't think there's any such thing anymore IMO) which basically negates the purpose of getting a second job or work the overnight shift (10 to 7) at our local pharmacy - if they're even hiring. The manager won't be in until Wednesday. Lenny doesn't like the idea (when are you going to get any sleep??) but what else can I do? I used to function on about 2 hours a sleep at night when Abby was a baby, I could probably do it again.

Like I said, I know we're better off than some people (not many though - we own nothing but 2 vehicles that are both 7 years old and not in the best shape) but in the end, it's just one more hit that I just can't take.

My nan passed away this morning at 3.30am, she would have been 94 next month.
She's been gradually going "down hill" over the last 3 weeks. My dad rang about 2am to say things didn't look good. I managed to get to her nursing home to say goodbye before she went.
This is the first close family member that my 2 Ds's have had to deal with. My eldest who's 12 1/2 took the news very well but my youngest who's 8 was very upset to say the least..
I think it's going to be a tough few days.

Some background...
I am allergic to dogs and so for the past 5 years or so that my children have been asking for a puppy I have plainly said, "I'm sorry we can't due to my allergies".
Last year after the election and watching the Obama family search for a "hypoallergenic" dog, my DD actually went online and provided me a list of breeds that were hypoallergenic and I still put it off.

Quite frankly, my concern has always been that I could be a poor puppy mom.
My DH and I both work full time and puppies need so much of your love and attention. They require lots of training and training takes time. How could a puppy properly train me if I'm away from home for 9 hours a day? :p

So Christmas comes again and both of the kids put a puppy as their #1 (on a very short list) for Santa.
So, I told my folks that this might be the year the kids are disappointed. My folks cannot bear to have the children disappointed... I think it's conditioning for the real world . But truthfully, I too was disappointed in disappointing.

My mom did some homework and then came to me with a proposal... "Let's just go and look at this 5 wk old Chihuahua litter". I had mixed feelings but went anyway.

Yup... it happened... I fell madly in love with the puppies and the mommy. The parents were really mild mannered and beautiful. Little did I know that the woman had two litters to chose from. The second litter was a week younger and had an extra pup than the previous. Before I knew it, I was writing a check for the deposit of not 1, but 2 puppies!

I even picked out their names... Ginger and Jasmine (Were supposed to be Belle and Jasmine however My mom said that one of them looked like a Ginger and it just stuck and now Disney needs to develop a new princess named Ginger  ). They're beautiful and I can't wait for them to come home. We have to wait about 4-5 weeks.

I have started reading all of the "for Dummies" books I can find on training and Chihuahua information and hopefully by the time our princesses come home I'll be a little prepared.

Do any of you dog owners have any advice for me?

Here's my situation...When my parents got married, my dad adopted me (I was like 6 or 7). I've never met my biological father, he wasn't looking to be a father to anyone but his other baby. He paid child support to my mom until my dad adopted me and he signed over his parental rights. I'm 31 now and I don't think I would've been any better or worse with him in my life as I have been without him. I've known his name since I was a teenager, but I didn't ever want to meet him or anything. But, here's the dilema I'm facing. My mom decided to tell me today that she was looking for old friends on Facebook and found his page. She said she was looking through it and found pictures of his other kids. She said that in addition to the girl that is like my age, he has 2 teenagers and she said the girl looks JUST like me. So much in fact that my 2 sisters walked by the computer and asked why someone had a picture of me as a kid on their profile. So of course, I can't just leave well enough alone and I look. Yeah, this girl looks more like me than my kids do!!! Up until today, I didn't know that I had another brother and sister and I would like to get to know them. Or at least meet them. Obviously, they are kids and it is not my place to tell them about me. I'm thinking about sending my bio father a message on Facebook telling him that I don't want anything from him, I just want the chance to meet my brother and sister. Of course, co-dependant me is worried that his family doesn't know about me and I will be ruining the nice life he's built for himself. And, honestly, I am super afraid that he will reject me. As awesome as I am, not everyone knows that;) and some people don't want to know me:(.

So, please, tell me, what would you do if you were in my shoes????

hi all - I have missed my Passporter friends, although some of you see me on fb. Anyway, it has been a rough fall, as my mom went into the hospital on 10/6 with pneumonia, only to find out a couple weeks later she had stage 4 lung cancer ( she was not a smoker)... which was heartbreaking because she was a nurse. It didn't start there, but they were unable to find the original site where the cancer started because she was so weak. She passed away Nov. 3rd , the day after my birthday. I think that was her last gift to me, to not go on my bday. My kids, my dad and myself have been devastated, as my parents have been helping me raise my children ( I'm still a single mom) The services were this past week on Sunday and Monday, so that out of town relatives could get here. Everything went as well as can be expected, but still so sad. My 8 y.o. is having a hard time with everything, as are my other two children. She was such a big part of my life. Now we just need to keep my dad busy, but he doesn't quite want to get back into the swing of things yet.

I have missed all of you and will try to check the board more often. I hope all of you are well. Thanks for any good thoughts so we can get through this and find a new "normal".

Literally-I'm not quite sure where I'm going with this other than letting my fingers say what I don't DARE say out loud to DH. I have dealt with nerve pain in face and neck for 15 years with no definitive diagnosis. It could be this, maybe that, "possible syndromes" doesn't fit stuff--but I won't die from it. Up until the last two years it flared a few times a year and was mostly annoying. The last year, the annoyance is more interfering, though I still function fairly well.

Anyway, we tried it all--acupuncture, PT, well, the last option is a nerve block. yeah to the c1-c5 areas and yes, during the testing of the last couple of months they found there was some damage to the c1-c5 vertebrae--duh!!! (I'm not nuts!) The first round was Monday last. I now know why Frankenstein's monster had such a bad disposition!!! This was diagnostic only. No help from it at all. The pain from that procedure made labor and delivery look like a day at the beach!!!! And I am NOT joking! And some things have gotten worse, which was expected and explained.

The next step is scheduled for Monday. The Dr. said there would be some relief with this series of injections. The nurse said that no, this was a double-blind study and that there may or may not be any relief from this. All of this to determine whether I'm a candidate for the nerve oblation (killing the nerve endings at c1-c5).

Here's the dilemma. Our trip is 2 weeks away. I have tried for a year to guarantee that I'm in good shape for this and EVERYTHING seems to be going to other way. Am I NUTS to be letting someone stick me on Monday?

My car ended up dying today. It looks like a transmission problem which usually means big $$$$$. Pixies that it's not too bad.

UPDATE!!! Well it seems that if you own a 01-02 Honda Civic or Accord BEWARE! Your transmission can go out on you around 100,000 miles. There is a whole bunch of sites that come up when you google it. :( I am MAD. My extended warranty was up just this year in April. I called the dealership where I bought it and was basically told-sorry, can't help you. The fix will cost around $2000-1/2 as much as the car is worth now. I only had 96,000 miles on it!!! So much for running until 150,000-250,000 miles. Honda just lost a customer today!

Oh and ANOTHER thing. Our trip to WDW in Dec is now cancelled due to saving the $ for the car.:mad::mad::cry2::cry2:

HELP

Sorry guys: if you had not already read the top part of all my erratic thoughts, I deleted them because all my erratic thoughts have been replaced with good ones including how much better this already wonderful trip is going to be! Thanks guys for some encouraging thoughts and words when I was having a moment of fret! Sometimes I overplan.......... and when things change it takes me a minute to get excited for the new plans.

The great news is my dad will be joining us for our trip:D

Isn't it funny how emotions can go from high to low in seconds? I wanted my dad to go; but was fretting some of the legistics and a little worried about possible scenarios not going "perfectly". An hour later; I'm thinking of all the positives! I think I just needed a little time to get my "new vision" together! I'm excited for so many reasons.
My dad is not normally a theme park; but Disney is a league of it's own and I can't wait for him to ride Soarin'!
There are a few rides that I was going to have to miss out on since the baby is too short, but now with my dad there- I can ride with the older kids that want to ride!
Two of my kids are terrified of fireworks (sensory stuff). I was not even going to try to watch them, but now I can! (while dad takes scared kids to hotel or something)
I can maybe try to spend a little one on one time with each kid!
It will be SO helpful to have one adult sit with the kids at the table while I order food or at the places that require you to order diff foods from diff counters; we can both be in the llines at same time!
It's going to be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's going to be great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

My father has been in hospital for several days after a few days of 'ear infection' (so he thought). Actually he had many tests and they have discovered what they believe is osophagus cancer!
My DH is away in Sydney on business with our youngest DS. I am in Perth with our older kids and just want to fly to Brisbane to support my mum & dad. I cannot leave my 13yr old and 10yr old to live here alone whilst I go to see my dad...I am so torn! Why my dad? Why now? (My DM's best friend just passed away from lung cancer in October, my uncle has been in hospital most of the year from a seizure and fall from his wheelchair - now in rehab & my DM takes care of my grandfather who has dementia). Why does this country have to be so damn big?
I have no idea what will happen tomorrow after the specialist visits. I haven't even looked up the condition on google - I came here to beg - please can you spare some pixies for my family? PLEASE?

and it's just getting started!

As I said in a previous post, DH and I are having some major issues right now. He is getting help and I do feel like he is finally committed to fixing things and finding himself again. I still don't trust him, but that is something I guess I'm going to have to get to on my own. I have let him come back home and so far, he has been on his best behavior. I hope it lasts!

We have already shelled at almost 4K in various medical related expenses this MONTH. I am SO thankful that my grandmother recently sent me a check for 5K completely out of the blue. She has never given me any money so I was shocked to receive it. She must have somehow known we were going to NEED it. We paid off our credit cards over the summer and cut them up so if it weren't for her we would have been completely unable to pay for all of this and our local hospital is a little fed up with me since I'm STILL paying for my son's birth which was 4 years ago....he was in the NICU for 2 weeks and after insurance we still owed 6K. So AT LEAST I have been able to pay them up front this time around.

One of the big expenses was that Chloe had to have surgery this morning. I took her to the ENT yesterday morning because she has had a chronic ear infection for 5 weeks now. He said she needed tubes asap so he worked her into the schedule for this morning. Talk about insane! I could have used a little warning! I was up last night trying to find someone to watch Josh and someone to sub in my class at school. Anyway, at least its over and done....it just has me a little stressed!

We have Disney coming up at the end of next week and I guess I have finally decided to go ahead with the trip. It still doesn't feel real to me, but its paid in full and I have gift cards for us to use on expenses when we get there. I've been very concerned about bringing DH along, but I do feel like everything will be fine. His dr. even agreed that we should be fine going as long as DH follows the rules and I keep my eyes open. DIL's have assured me that if anything comes up they will be there in 6 hours. And I've been talking to the pastor that married us and he recently moved to Orlando. So I feel like he is there if DH has a major relapse. I do feel like DH is on the upswing though....I think he hit rock bottom last week and is now committed to getting better....I surely hope so!

So you guys keep us in your thoughts....hopefully this trip is just what we need!

DH's cousin is here. He comes every year, and always at a time it's bad for me. While I like the guy, he can get annoying. This time around, it's even more so - and I finally figured out why!

He calls me "Hun". When he's talking on the phone to others, he calls me "Ron's wife". HE DOES NOT KNOW MY NAME!!! He's stayed at our house for a minimum of 4 weeks a year for at least 10 years. He calls at least twice a month, and I talk to him for about an hour each time. And in all that time, he hasn't bothered to learn my name (which is the same as Ron's sister's name, so it's not like he's never heard it!)
His mother and both sisters live within 15 minutes of us, but he won't stay with them -because they smoke. I understand, really I do.
He also does not know the girls' names. He just calls them "the girls" or "the little one" or "the big one". He calls the dog "Bear" (her name is Pixie, but she does look like a bear). The cats, he calls "cat" (oh, and he spent 30 minutes last night regaling me about how he killed and tortured cats when he was younger).

He got here on Friday. He'll be here until AFTER Thanksgiving. UGGGGHHHHH.

Please, tell me it will all be okay, I beg of you!

Does Anyone Ever Get Earaches From Allergies?

*Since we've moved to Shreveport, I think I've developed allergies (I've never had them before). I wake up every morning with "sinus head" (my skull feels like it weighs 90 lbs, slightly stuffy nose, little phlegm, TMI :jester:), but the biggest thing I've noticed is that I constantly have drainage in my ears. I already use Q-Tips obsessively (I know, I know, they're terrible), but I'm using several a day, simply to mop up the excess drainage that's running out of my ears! I've also noticed the out-most part of my ear canals are a little scabby (but that could be from the constant swabbing), and hydrogen peroxide on a Q-Tip seems to clear that right up.

Another annoying symptom is that, while my ears don't HURT, they do get sore. Never simultaneously, but one will be sore to touch for 3-5 days, then switch over to the other ear, and then back. It's been like this pretty much since we moved down here, and I've noticed that when we leave the area for a week or more (to Disney, back to Morgantown), the symptoms mostly go away, only to come back as soon as we step foot in Louisiana.

Does anyone else have experience with this? What sort of remedies or prescriptions have you tried? Dr. DH has exhausted the limits of his medical knowledge with me, and unfortunately, his insurance is so terrible, going to an ENT is completely out of the question. (Ironic, right?) If you know of any homeopathic or even prescribed medicines (because that we CAN do) to try, or even if you just want to commiserate, please let me know!*

My Soon2b Sis n Law {17} just found out that she is pregnant, so Her & BroNlaw {18} could use some major pixies.

Now for the Vent: Sis n Law has been living with My In Laws for almost 1 year now, yes she was 16 when she moved in. Her Mom & step dad kicked her out [for wat ever reasons) & then they moved to California without telling her. So I have always felt so bad for her, over the weekend she called me and told me that she is pregnant. & she has been calling/texing me everyday she is scared & I understand that she misses her mom & has no way to get intouch with her, I could not imagine how scared she is. I have given her some books & I have told her she can call me anytime or talk to be about anything & that I will help her the best that I can. I feel so bad for her & can't even understand her mother. thanks for letting me vent. & TIA for your pixies

A friend and co-worker just found out she has pancreatic cancer. She is going to undergo experimental treatment that is not approved by the FDA and the cost is not covered by insurance. We were told that without treatment, she can expect 6-8 months, even with this treatment, they only give her 18 months.

Please send Pixies to Emily.
Thanks,
Beth

Today, the 8th of November, is "Remembrance Sunday" when services are held across the United Kingdom to honour and remember those who have made the "supreme sacrifice" for freedom.

People up and down the country wear poppies in remembrance of the fallen from past, and sadly, present conflicts.

As the nation remembers, and HM The Queen lays a wreath of poppies at the Cenotaph in London, please join me in saluting the brave, from all nations, who have laid down their lives in the name of freedom, and their families and friends who treasure their memory.

I just went to ebay looking for the person who made my kids outfits the last few times we went to WDW. She has closed shop! I am devastated! I even tried using the email I had for her the last time we corresponded, and it came back as unknow address. I know this will probably be pulled, but I am desparate. Can anyone PM with info on a person that does custom Disney clothing without costing me an arm and leg, not just for the kids, but for dh and I. We leave in February and I am needing to get the clothes ordered. I am sorry moderator if I violated any rules not meaning to, just looking for info. Like I said earlier, I am desparate. TIA

I'm spending Thanksgiving day with MY family!!
This is the FIRST time in 20 YEARS that we'll be with my family and not DH's!!!!!!

Dh and I have always just said we'd go where we were invited first, and his family almost always got a jump on it (his mom once asked us in August).
I was talking to my sister today, and told her to ask me. She did, I said we'd be there, and the kids and I are THRILLED!!!

I don't mind DH's family, but they tend to ignore everyone they didn't grow up with, and since my kids are also the youngest of the cousins, they get ignored by the older kids (some of whom are only a year older, but since their parents allow them to act older, think they're too "Cool" to talk with Kathryn and Lauren).

Doing the happy dance.

He's here!! My bosses' baby was born just before 2 PM, healthy and sound.
If you don't remember, this is the baby of Lauren's karate sensei and his wife, both of whom are my bosses. The baby tried to put in an appearance quite a while ago, and I asked for pixies he could hold out until the drugs could work on his lungs. Well, he did better than that!! (thanks I'm sure to all your pixies).
His due date was next Saturday, so he's not early at all! Originally they were expecting to have a 4 pound baby, since even the doctor was sure he'd be so early. Well, he's 6 pounds, 12 ounces and 19 inches long!

Thank you so much for giving your pixies and prayers to this family.

My almost 18yr old DNiece has been dating her 1st (19 yr old) BF for 8 months. DH saw them a few weeks ago and DNiece bragged about her Promise Ring. DH had a good line and said it better be a promise to go to college. My SSIL is letting her do whatever she wants again. If she was our daughter, we'd have her give it back until she's either through with school or out on her own. Long term dating is fine but they are both too young to be thinking of marriage. Anyone have any thoughts or advice I can give her from the Aunt perspective?

My darling daughter was 5 years old on the 5th of November.

As a "big girl" gift my parents presented her with an extra special gift "for her to keep safe".

It is a beautiful china teapot in the shape of a piano, with Mickey as the pianist and Minnie sitting on top of the piano being "serrenaded"!

I was blown away by their wonderful gift. My parents know we are "Disney mad" but up until now they've never really shown much interest in our "obsession". I have no idea where they got it from, or how much it cost, but it is beautiful!

Right about now, my dad should be headed into back surgery for what we hope is the final one. So any pixies that you can spare for the surgery to go well and that my dad is finally pain free would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

If you said the FLU then you are correct. I feel TERRIBLE!!!! It has now gone through our house but we are trying to stay away from Grandma as best as we can so that she doesn't get sick since she just home from the hospital. The only dose of medicine I could find to give me any sort of happiness is I booked our Disney Trip for 2010. :D

...but still, I know my "Disney Mom's" will understand! I just found out that a friend of one of my very best friends (who lives in LA) is a dancer on Miley Cyrus' tour. If I can get my hands on tickets to Monday nights show here in Boston she can get us a meet and greet with Miley!! Eeeek! I dunno who would be more excited, me or DD!!! :rofl2:
I am currently bidding on a very resonably priced pair on e-bay with 18 hours left in the auction...keep your fingers crossed!!

A New Job? (long)

I know I am going to jinx myself, as I always seem to do. . .

However, I have been pretty open about the fact that I am one of the millions of unlucky unemployed. I was fired back in February by evil, horrible attorneys (my apologies to those attorneys here who still have their souls ) for personal, not professional, reasons, not that anyone would give me a straightforward answer. . .but I digress!

Anywho, in the past few months I have applied for (no kidding!) 100+ jobs, and I have had very little in the way of callbacks, except. . .

Today I got one! It was totally out-of-the-blue and the phone call was the interview (nothing like being completely unprepared!). Anyway, I think it went fairly well. I was honest, up front, and totally myself.

Well apparently I "made it" to the next step which is an online "pre-hire test." It basically is supposed to test your grammar, spelling and basic math abilities. Ok, no fears there, but. . .

I'm kind of afraid of the actual job!

Background: I worked for two attorneys at my last my job, but they worked me like a dog. They would go home to their non-existent lives and dictate for 4 hours _each_ and then they both would come in the next day _each_ of them wanting their 4 hours of work done in *two*! Totally impossible, at least for me!

Well this new possible job would be working for 2 VPs *_and_* an additional 3-4 people. /sigh I don't know how comfortable I am attempting to possibly spread myself thin again, but, then again, I have been out of work for 9 months and unemployment doesn't last forever.

So, my point, I need help to make me feel better about this potential job. It's *thankfully* _not_ working for attorneys; it's more of an "Executive Admin Assistant"-type position. It requires a lot of multi-party meetings to be scheduled (dealt with that as a legal secretary -- totally stinks but nothing new); data entry in Excel (which I told the guy I was "acceptable" - so by no means an expert - at working in that program); and projects to be completed (although he couldn't really give me an example as they're "varied" assignments that come up), but there's also a lot of "proficiency" required.

Now I'm never one to be unorganized, but I know what it’s like having 2 attorneys stomping their feet while snarling () wanting their assignments all at the same time, and, as such, I do not like to be stressed to the max when other people can't comprehend the concept of 1 person = only 2 hands!

So, what do you all think? Am I crazy to be worrying? Are my worries legitimate? Or, should I shut up and be happy something may come through?

Any thoughts, suggestions, concerns, etc. would be soooo appreciated, and the more honest the better (I mean don’t make fun of my mother or anything, but. . .)!!

THANKS!!

Unexplained Reaction

I've had an allergic reaction, 2 days in a row.
I've changed nothing in my life - soap, shampoo, laundry products, food, nothing.
Each reaction happened in a different place - one at school, the other at the hospital. The ONLY thing that seems to connect them is that the one at school was in Theology class, and the one at the hospital happened about 15 minutes after we were talking about theology class. I'm not worried about anything.
The reaction starts with my face getting hot, then it radiates down my body. Other people say my face and body turn so red, they could see it through my white shirt today! After about 20 to 30 minutes, it starts to fade and is totally gone in about an hour.
I know I need to see the doctor, but was wondering if anyone has ever had anything like this happen?

MinieMe and I are sisters as some of you know from our PTR....Snow White One Dwarf Missing. But that's not the secret. Our parents will have been married for fifty years on May 19 this coming year. The secret is, we just put the deposit down on a cruise for them to enjoy the following week. Not Disney mind you, but a lesser expensive one that we could afford but I do believe they'll enjoy. I think I can trust each of you to help keep our secret and not tell before the appointed time. I'll report back when we decide when that might be :D

We are also giving a reception the week prior to their anniversary at our church and hopefully have 100-150 people come :) Pixies please that all goes off without any major problems:)

I have been lying in bed and finally decided to get my butt to the doctor when I couldn't even get out of bed for work today. The doctor thinks it's either gastroenteritis or food poisoning. Ugh, who cares, it stinks. Please send a pixie or 2 my way so I can go to work tomorrow. I'm losing my mind here. That being said, I'm going back to bed!

My family could really use some pixies. My husband is struggling with some personal issues and it is effecting our kids. I had to put my foot down tonight and it broke my heart. He is such a wonderful man, but has some serious problems that have got to be taken care of before I can allow him to be around our children. I have had his parents over here all night talking to me....I am so lucky to have them! My mom is determined I need to just "kick him to the curb" but after watching her go through three husbands, I'm a little hesitant to take any of her advice! My DMIL and DFIL have always been committed to their family and I am so lucky to have their support!

We could really use some extra happy thoughts over the next few weeks. We have a Disney trip scheduled for a couple weeks and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be making a call in the next few days to cancel it. I don't know how I am going to break that to Josh. It has been all he has talked about for the last 120 days.

Today, a TON of kids got sent home from my children's school. By 12pm the school was down 1/3 of the students (there are only 140 in the school) Not out of the ordinary in this time trying to avoid the spread of flu BUT...at least 8 that I know of (mine included) were sent home saying their temps were *exactly* 100 and when they arrived home were checked by their parents and had no temps. All also told their parents that they did not feel sick rather, they did temperature checks on all the students regardless.

They use the forehead strips. Today leads me to believe that it's not a very accurate read by that method. I use an ear thermometer but it's 9 years old and I'm wondering if it's time to upgrade to to a different one.

What method do you use? How accurate do you find it? Are there any doctors or nurses on the boards that want to weigh in for which is the most "accurate" home one to get?

My dear, dear friend is probably going to lose her house. I'm sorry but I'm not going to go into too many details. She thought she was doing a good thing for her family and the mortgage co didn't tell her a few things that have added up to them owing morgage co over $20,000 and their mortgage doubling to an amount they just can't afford.

She realizes they will have to try to sell and rent a place but she is concerned about disrupting her daughter's education. She has special needs as well as medical issues and finally has her in a classroom that her daughter is thriving in.

I am going to put her in touch with an excellant, reputable real estate agent to help guide her through.

At this point I think just some coping pixies would help alot.

Thank you all so much!

For my DD age 15, she isn't sick, but I'm really worried about her right now. She's always been a very emotional child and part of this I'm sure is just being a teenager, but last night she had a major meltdown. She had a terrible temper tantrum just screaming and crying over something very minor. Then she cried pretty much from 6 until 10:30, she said some very hateful things which she later apologized for and said she doesn't know what comes over her sometimes. We've had a very stressful year which I'm sure is affecting her and I'll be keeping a close watch to monitor whether we should seek some professional help. Right now pixies and good thoughts would help a ton.

And we had a fantabulous time! The wedding was lovely, dinner at 1900 Park Fare was great and great fun, the cruise was amazing, and so was the F&WF. The only somewhat disappointing part was MNSSHP, but I'll save all that for the trip report - which may be a long time coming, as I sit here looking at the pile of papers on my desk, waiting to be graded. See, teachers never really get vacations, b/c we have to prep a bunch of work before we go and then grade it when we get back! But it was great and well worth the extra work!

My Dsis dressed as our dad a few years ago. Today, I dressed as our high school history teacher.
The deodorant thread made me think of something I've been wondering about w/ my daughter......... Shaving legs! She already has really dark hair on her legs and she is only 8 (will be 9 next month). There is NO WAY I'm thinking about letting her do this right now or soon, BUT- I originally thought it would be more like a middle school thing, but her hair is REALLY dark, so how long am I suppose to let her run around in shorts and skirts with those hairy legs?? Again, I'm not even suggesting doing it just yet............. but, I am starting to think she may need to start before middle school since that is several years away. What is the rule of thumb or what is your experience with this???

I'm wondering what age is good to start using deoderant. DS Bradley is starting to smell a little funky under his arms... We still help him in the shower, so we know he is being cleaned properly under his arms with soap and all. And putting baby powder under there doesn't seem to help. I also know, they say the regular deoderants have things in them that could cause problems for kids, like Alzheimer's, etc.

So, what age did your kids start using deoderant? And do you know where to find kid friendly brands?

She's come down with what I'm assuming is the flu. It's running rampant thru our schools (next town over actually cancelled school for 3 days this week - our super says he won't close school unless he doesn't have teachers to teach)! She got off the bus yesterday just not looking well, and is achy, has a cough, and is up to 102 this morning. I've already cancelled her out of soccer tomorrow, and she's not going to be able to go trick or treating either! :(

He looks and acts healthy, He is very alert and curious and is developing right along that I can see. He is eating solid food and has an appetite> They were hoping for better news today on his weigh gain and it was only 2 oz. I keep saying that he is one of those kids who will take time to gain weight and that one day we will all look at this strapping Hulk 16yr old wondering why we ever worried. But in the mean time I know his Mom feels she is the one failing her child and I don't know what to say to help her not feel so sad about this. I think she may also be worried that it might be something more than what they have found so far, with the allergies.

I quit teaching 7 years ago to be a stay at home mom. Friday, I go back to work as an RN. I am so grateful to this website for getting me through years with very little adult conversation. The last 3 years (when the kids were really doing alot at school, and I had gotten to really know many of the moms, and seeing them every day) were easier, but the early years were tough, and it was nice to be able to spend a few minutes here, and always have an to chat with-- whether it was about Disney or parenting or a question. It's really been great getting to know the wonderful people on this board! I can't believe my days as a SAHM are over, and my family is starting a new chapter! I'm very excited, but I've been really nostalgic of those early days of just me and the little guys--- Going to Gymboree and Moms Club events and playgroups. Can't believe how fast time flies! It was also an awakening to hear I have to wait a year before a vacation--- oh my gosh, no more Disney on a whim (since my husband can take vacation whenever--- he doesn't have to get approval).

I'm looking for opinions on this.... it's long!

My DD9 has had a cough for over a week. On Monday, she wasn't looking so good, so at 2:30 I called for an appointment with her pediatrician. We got a 4:15 appointment. We waited to see a dr until after 5. I was not terribly pleased, but the dr was efficient with his exam, and after a breathing treatment, wanted us to go to the ER for an xray.

We went to the hospital, stayed in the waiting room and ER for 5 hours, and were sent home, told to follow up with our pediatrician in 2 - 4 days. DD seemed better the next day.

Then, at 7 pm we get 2 messages, from the pediatrician's office and the ER - we need to go back to the ER for follow up. They need another xray, and she will most likely be admitted! Yikes!

Get to the ER, have a much better experience, and are out by midnight. Her xrays show significant improvement. We are told to follow up with the pediatrician in 1 - 2 days.

I decide to be proactive, and since I didn't hear from the pediatrician at all after the first ER visit, I call the office first thing this morning. Get a call back from a nurse 2 hours later. She says she will leave a message for the dr who sent us to the ER (not someone we normally make appts with, but he was fine.) At 4:30, I still haven't heard anything, so I call the office that he is working at this afternoon. The person I spoke with says he has the message on his computer, and he may call me today.

He MAY call me? What's that about? My DD has something going on that caused us to be rushed back to the ER last night, and we were told to follow up, and he MAY call us back more than 9 hours after I call his office? I am getting the feeling that I need to find a new pediatrician. I really like the dr we see for our annual exams, but I am not at all liking how this is being handled.

Any feedback for me?

Thanks for reading!

On Saturday, I decided to get Abby the H1N1 mist - more because my mother wouldn't get off my back about it but that's another story. Sunday, Abby complained of a sore throat and had a 102 temp. Well here it is Wednesday and she's still sick. Her fevers been all over the board from normal up to 102. She's got the sniffles, a cough and a sore throat. Yesterday she was feeling better and I really thought today would be the day I could send her back to school, but that's not happening and I'm starting to wonder if she'll be in school at all this week. If it were any other week, it wouldn't be so bad, Abby being sick this long. But this week she has Halloween parties she's been looking really forward to - she's already getting upset at the thought of missing them. So any pixies anyone could spare would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have been wanted to post this for a while. Back in April of this year we were vacationing in WDW. It was the first trip I used the PP for and I loved it of course. My husband and my little boys were waiting for our table for an early dinner at the Grand Floridian Cafe. I saw a woman with a passporter pouch and mentioned to her how much I enjoyed the guidebook and all the information and organization it offers. She was very sweet and we chatted as she was waiting for her table too. She was with another woman who was taking notes for her trip report (not that I knew what that even was then) and she said she was a guide for one of the boards. They both strongly encouraged me to join the boards. I had never post anywhere ever but as soon as I visited I was hooked. I want to send out a HUGE thank you :thanks: to these two ladies for bringing me to this great community. I am so happy to be here. I hope one or both of you sees this post so you know how much I appreciate your suggestion.

Anyway....thank you both!! :D

She's finally here! Here are some pictures of our new baby, Zoey. :D

I went into the doctor's office last Tuesday for my regular appointment at 9am. By 9pm we had Zoey. Now that was fast!

She had a mild case of jaundice but it cleared up over the last couple of days. Other than that she is doing great. We're a little sleep deprived but all is well.

Thank you so much for all of your well wishes and pixies! :)

Did I do wrong by giving my kids the H1N1 vaccine?

Originally, I was very much against the vaccine. I thought it was too new and went with the theory of not wanting to be a guinea pig. Then, I did research, talked to the pediatrician...all of which pointed me to that it really wasn't any different than the regular flu vaccine. My husband's in Afghanistan, next door to doctors, he talked to them...also said they were giving it to their children...with no concern or reservation.

So I went to get their seasonal flu shot and regular immunizations today and they sprung it on me that they had H1N1 shots available and my kids qualified. Somehow, I did it. But now I'm totally second guessing myself. I mean, I know it's too late and what's done is done...I'm just a mess, all in a panic. I hate to say it, but I feel like I'm just sitting back with my fingers crossed, hoping that all is okay and I feel so irresponsible for putting my children in a situation that I have to sit back with my fingers crossed. But the counter to that is that I'm so paranoid I've been sanitizing like crazy...everytime we get in the car from an outing, or even while we're out...and then I hear and see how that's not good either.

Any expertise out there? Any advice?

Happy Birthday to my beautiful baby girl(who thinks she's a teenager)

Image: http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj104/wlbbcb/016.jpg

Where does the time go? I cannot believe it's been 5 years(Nov. 2.).

Not to bring it down, but yesterday as we were burying her great aunt, Gabby knelt on the ground in front on a grave and it just happened to be Kristy's and I said Gabby do you remember what I've told you? Yeah she said. Now whether she really does remember everything I've told her or not, I thought it was one of the sweetest things seeing her kneeling down as if she was going to talk to her mama.

All right, it's nearly time to make her birthday cake of chocolate with chocolate(is there any other kind???) and for supper is p'sketti and meatballs!

As you know, I've been battling chronic fatigue since early July - and generally winning with it, I'm pleased to say! :D

I'm back to working in the office three days a week, although I've been working my full five days a week for some time now, with the rest of the time at home. I saw the occupational health person yesterday and, over the next few weeks, I'll be stepping up to four days a week in the office, which is a challenge, as it's an 80 mile round trip into work, and I'll be stepping up my hours as well.

I could do with some :pixie: that it all goes well and I can step up to this latest challenge on my road to recovery. I'm sure I can do it, but it's just a bit daunting at the moment for me!

Both younger DDs are sick. 13yo has all the symptoms minus fever, 11yo has all the symptoms and 103 degrees. I've had a headache I can't shake all day and came home to progressively worse dizziness, shaky, chills.

Please send pixies for us to get through it OK and quickly. I still have to finish moving this week, power goes off and keys go back on Friday. :(

I just got news today that my beautiful baby boy (well, he just turned 9) has to get braces. Not just moving his teeth but changing his facial structure (jaw expansion and stuff). We go to WDW in February and I am upset that we wont have one last vacation with him 'looking' like my baby. I know its probably just me being sad that he is growing up, but I'm still kinda bummed about it. Just tell me I'm being silly!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that sent pixies my way for my Intro to Analysis class. To refresh everyone's memories:

I am currently taking three math classes for my Mathematics degree. One evening a couple of months ago, I had my first quiz in Intro to Analysis and I ended up crying my way through it. I was really questioning my sanity in deciding to go back to school at my age, nevermind the decision to major in mathematics. all of you wonderful PP sent pixies my way and I was able to realize that the major part of that breakdown was stress! I had very little sleep that week and I was just stressed beyond belief. Well last week I had my midterms in two of my classes. In Intro to Analysis I got an 84 and in Linear Algebra, I got an 88. (My Probability and Statistics class does not have a midterm, just 3 tests and then a final.)

I was so happy with my midterm grades that I did a happy dance the entire way home. LOL Thank you for all the pixies. They truly helped.

Cat Issues, Need Advice

Hey everyone!

I have 3 cats, all DSH, none with any health problems except that all of them are upchucking thier food soon after they eat it. And it isn't every single day, but I would say one of them (or more than one of them) does it at least once every other day or so.

I have them on Purina One Indoor Advantage Weight/Hairball mixed with the same brands Urinary Tract Health formula and they've been on this brand for several years, so I know it isn't the brand being new that's doing it.

They get fed once a day, usually at night and my best theory up until now is that they are all just eating too fast and too much and then bringing it back up, because it's literally just undigested food.

I am tempted to switch to the Sensitive Stomachs formula that is available, except that they have done so well hairball-wise (they shed A LOT and the issue used to be constant puking of hairballs) on this formula that I hate to change it.

Anyone else ever have the same issue and can offer some advice?

I made it through my first week of driving into work three times in one week last week, which is a good step forward for me. :waytogo: For the next couple of weeks, it's driving in three days a week as well and I'm meeting with occupational health again on Monday to discuss after that...

I also finally managed to get back to the pool in my lunch-hour yesterday, with my swimming partner driving me there and keeping an eye on me. It was so nice to be back in the water and doing something "normal" again and it's so good to feel that I'm continuing to improve with this chronic fatigue.

Well our local high school has been hit by the H1N1 flu. After growing numbers of absent kids(including my own), they have closed the school for next Mon. and Tues. As of today 44% of the kids were home sick, many with documented swine flu and some such as my son undocumented. Of course the media as blown it way up and they have all 44% having swine flu. Could we have a few pixies for all the kids. By the way there is not a thermometer to be had any where in town.

First, mine and Lauren's Sensei's wife is in labor!! She was handling it beautifully this evening, hanging out at the dojo and walking and waiting. Thank you to everyone who kept her in Pixies and prayers over the last few weeks - the baby is big enough (finally) and his lungs are mature enough, they're letting labor proceed. Should be sometime tonight or tomorrow. Of course, we're all excited!!!

On the 'not such great news' front - DH's sorta step-grandma died. It's really convoluted, but she is the widow of his grandma's 2nd husband. (grandma S. was married to him after Grandpa S. died, then Grandma S. died and Grandpa Johnny - her widower - married "aunt Pauline" - Grandpa Johnny died a few years ago, and "aunt Pauline died a couple of days ago) To really bugger up the mix, Grandpa Johnny was not only the step-grandfather of one of DH's cousins, but his uncle as well. So, Aunt Pauline was REALLY Rick's Aunt, and his Grandmother of sorts!
Of course, this is the family I say you can go to a family reunion, yell "Hey Junior!!" and half 3/4 of the male population turn around and say "Huh?"

Can you send some pixies for everyone? Safe, healthy delivery ones for Sensei A. and her baby? - she's going to try to go "natural" (crazy woman!) and some for DH and his family. Like he said, she was the only "grandparent" he had left - and now he's bereft of all the older folk he loved in his life. Most of his aunts and uncles are gone, there are very few left, and most of them are doing poorly. He's seeing his dad's and his own mortality lately and it's scaring him. (his mom died years ago)

Update on life.....

It's been a while since I've posted anything, but I've been keeping up with trip reports and other adventures as much as I can. Last time I wrote anything I was having some major issues in my life. So....let's catch up!
Terry and I never made it to Louisiana for our "romantic" weekend. Instead he went on a motorcycle run up to the Tyler, Texas area. I was a little upset, but I realized it wasn't worth getting angry over. Tonight we decided to go to a marriage counselor. The weird part in all of this is that we really do love each other and want to stay married. Hopefully with a little professional help, we'll survive this and become stronger as a couple.

As you can tell by the picture below, Travis is doing fine. He is working and doing okay by himself. He is getting advised this Friday for classes next spring and informed me he was changing his major to Health Science. I'm not sure what he can do with this degree, but he seems to have it under control and excited about starting a new semester in January. I asked, as I always do, how his sugar count has been and he said fine. He was maintaining his log and keeping up with any lows or highs. So, I'm guessing (and hoping) 2010 will be a good year for him.

Just wanted to stop by and say Hi :hi:
Take care -
Regina

Some of the funnier statements were "But, Jasmine has a pet tiger.....that's HOT!" and "Ariel's voice......you could listen to her sing all day.......she'd never have problems singing our kids to sleep."

Some might know but 2 years ago I had surgery on my knee to help with some bone issues and an injury repair. For the most the knee was ok, but I definitely would never be 100% better.

Well, they say the bigger they are the harder they fall, and well clumsy me and my balance issues decided that I'd try falling today. Yeah I rather stay upright but my knee for the 1st time in 2 years buckled after I started to lose my balance like it did before the surgery and I twisted my ankle, fell on my knee and right side

I can stand on it, and I can put pressure on it to walk but I can feel the part of my knee they fixed back in the place they moved it from  which means I just undid what my knee surgeon did 2 years ago  and my hip and ankle both ache so my whole right side is one giant pain/ache.

So I am asking that maybe if you could spare a pixie you send it my way, so that this isn't as serious as I feel it is right now, and that the pain goes away asap, so that I can focus on my Fantastic job, and enjoying the cooler weather here in Florida. I hate being laid up!

Thanks in advance :o

DD woke up yesterday with a fever of 101.5. Today the fever is better but she has a nasty cough. So we've got the flu in our house.
Not a big surprise -- it's been rampant in our schools. Several 3rd and 1st grade classes had fewer than half their kids in last week.
We had the seasonal flu shot, so this is one of the "other" strains. I don't really care whether it's H1N1 or not -- sick is sick. But she's seen the news and is afraid she's going to die! She wanted to say a "last goodbye" to her dolls last night.
I can count on one hand the number of times she's been sick in 9 1/2 years, so this is an odd event for us.

Anyone else down with the bug?
If so, Pixies to them and the ones who care for them. I've never used so much hand sanitizer in three days in my life!

Thank you everyone for your pixies, thoughts and prayers for Somer and her family. Now that the body has been identified as that of Somer, the criminal investigation begins. I can't tell you how thankful I am that I'm living in a community with such amazing law enforcement personnel. These men and women have worked tirelessly over the past three days to find Somer. And it was simply good old fashioned basic police work that found her. It wasn't the outcome we had all hoped and prayed for, but now the work of these men and women gets even tougher. It isn't easy watching police veterans with years of experience just breaking down and crying. They are human, and have the crappiest jobs in the world in times like this. Please keep the pixies coming to give them the strength and courage to find out what happened to this precious child, and to the community who has had their hearts ripped out.

I have two beautiful boys and I love them so much. I love being a mommy and staying home to spend as much time with my family as possible. After I gave birth to my youngest son I was told it wold not be safe for me to have anymore children. It would be a big risk for me and the baby. So I have been trying to decide if I am only meant to have two children or if it God's way of telling me to adopt. I would love to have another child but maybe it is just not meant to be. If anyone here has experience with adoption foreign or domestic or maybe the choice not to I would appreciate the guidance and/or support.

My oldest DD just got into serious running this past spring/summer. This coming weekend she will be running in the Marine Corp Marathon in Washington D.C! I can't believe that in 6 months' time she was able to complete the intense training required to get herself in top shape to do this race. She has my total admiration for being so dedicated! Our whole family will be on the course this weekend to cheer her on. Please send some pixies her way for a safe, injury free race!

p.s. If she makes it through this race in relatively good spirits, I'm working on getting her and my younger DD to run in the Princess half marathon at WDW in March 2010! Sneaky way to get a mother/daughters trip, huh?!;) Wish us both luck!
