I have read about the annual passes being good for 15 months now, does anyone know for sure if it applies to the dvc annual passes? I will renew regardless but that would be a nice perk! :)

DCL Reservations

Hello Friends!

Got a couple of questions:

How do you make a DCL Reservation using your points? Do you call member services or DCL? I wasn't sure.

If I don't have enough points to book for everyone, do I have to pay the rest in full or just make a downpayment on their part?

Any help would be appreciated. I am thinking about booking the Halloween 2011 Cruise on the Dream. We had so much fun on our Halloween Cruise this year.

Thanks! :D

I'm a little confused. It seems that all the pictures I see (and videos I look at on You Tube), the 2 bedroom is set up differently. I know that you can have a dedicated 2 bedroom where you have 2 beds in the second room or you can have a 2 bedroom which is really a 1 bedroom with a studio attached. My question relates to the kitchen area. In some pictures of floorplans you see an island with stools and then in other pictures you just see an island. What is the difference? Are there more difference that that? I reserved a dedicated 2 bedroom for our stay so we would get the second bedroom with 2 beds. We all need our space LOL.

Bethany and I are going to buy into DVC in January. (I think the kids want Christmas presents. haha)

So I want to know which resort to look into? As awesome as Bay Lake is, it's really not my style. I'd prefer Wilderness Villas but I'm pretty sure it's sold out. What other resorts would you recommend?

I hate Saratoga but would love Old Key West.

Thanks!

None of us would be there, only them. Can I do that? Would they have the same perks staying there as we do or no? I tried looking it up, but could not find the answer:o

We finally did it. We've been going to Disney for 10 years now and always wanted to join but something always prevented us (usually $).

We moved to Orlando two years ago and have now decided the time is right for us. I find it funny that we lived in MA for so long and did not join but then joined after living right next to Disney! We went to the presentation on Saturday and decided to finally become DVC members.

Our first trip will just be one night at Animal Kingdom Villas (our new home!) for my birthday but are planning a trip to Disneyland for the late spring.

Sadly, due to DH's layoff, we needed to cancel our January trip to SSR and the THV. :pout: I was really looking forward to trying the treehouses, but it is not to be right now.

But the good news?

DS and DDiL were unable to take a honeymoon after their wedding due to several thing, inculding finances. So, we called DVC and we were able to transfer the ressie to them! :D

It's only three nights, four days, but they get a honeymoon, the points get used, and we will at least get pictures! They are over the moon happy.

I am a little sad about the cancellation, but I know they will have a fabulous time!

Hey there (how many of you said "hi-there, ho-there" in your head!?)

I need to hear from some people who have stayed at DVC Vero Beach property. how is it? What is there to do there? Besides at the resort- what is there to do in the area in general? What kind of food is nearby? Shopping? etc. Is it right on the beach so we'll have beach time? Is the water frigid in May or is it decent like the gulf-side is?

i'm sitting here trying to decide if I want to book a cruise for 2011 on the Dream, and if so if we want to use our points for a few nights at Vero Beach prior-to, or what. SO, I guess I need to know what all is there!

Thanks in advance for your help. Oh and I'll have a 3 and 7 yr old by then

DH just got home from a business trip to Oahu and interestingly enough he sort of bumped into the signs for the new DVC resort there. I asked him to take pictures so I could see what was going on. And I thought you guys might want to see them too.

I thought the lagoon there was going to be private (only DVC) but it kind of looks like it is shared by other resorts on either side of DVC.

The cranes are working on DVC property - 1 bldg is already built (near the cranes). See the other resort on the left side of the picture? Another is on the right of the property (can't see).

I was just on dvcmember.com They have out the vaction point chart out for the dream. I was glad to see the points are actually less (in value season) vs the wonder. I'm sure its because the ship is soo much bigger. But the down side is I'm using over 100 points more for the exact same cruise a year in advance:confused::confused::confused: Oh well. I don't think I can wait another year to go on a cruise. I think I'll have to wait for 2012. :(

Question About Mousekeeping

Since next August will be our first stay as DVC Members, I have a question about mousekeeping. I do understand that you do not get traditional mousekeeping as everyone does at a regular resort. On day 4 you are supposed to get trash and towel service. I understand that too. But what if before day 4 you have built up alot of trash because you have used the kitchen alot. They do have a garbage disposal right? So I guess food wouldn't stink in the trash. But what do you do if you do have alot of trash to be collected? Just wait for day 4 and then day 7?

Posted this on another topic but I'll ask again. :)

We are a family of 7 and love WDW! I'm still trying to convince my husband in DVC. I've tried to tell him DVC is not all about visiting WDW you can see other places too! He's not into paying that much for it.

Any suggestions on helping convince him that in the long run its worth it?

I know there are only 5 2BR Club level rooms at Jambo House..

Does anyone know how many non-club Savannah View 2BRs there are at Jambo House? Also Kidani Village?

And secondly, what do you guys think my chances are of booking a SV 2BR for the last week in Sept at our 7 month mark?

Thanks!

New DVC Resort in Hawaii

I found this artwork on the concept of the new DVC resort in Hawaii. It looks awsome.

Disney has released some details on convention facilities planned for its Ko Olina resort in Oahu. Included in this report are detailed maps of the meeting space along with several new pieces of concept artwork for the resort set to begin opening in 2011.

So my husband and I keep looking at DVC and keep running into the same questions so I am coming to the best of the best for some answers/ideas.

Right now my little boys 3.5 and 1.5 love Disney and will for some time I would guess. What about the teen years later. Do they tend to hang onto that enjoyment of the Mouse when they are older and hanging with mom and dad is not as cool? I do not want to plan on a yearly Disney trip that turns into a battle to get the kids onboard.

While my boys are little having the extra space etc that we could gain with DVC would be great but I worry about the lack of maid service as they often make messes that require extra towels and/or daily vacuuming. Is there a vacuum available to use? What about laundry facilities?

I know you can use points toward cruises. Can you "pay" for part of the cruise with points and the rest with the usual kind of funds? So if I wanted to upgrade to a bigger room and not have to pay as much for it?

Have anyone seen the villas in Grand California yet?

Did I read somewhere that they are building a resort in Hawaii?

Is it truly easy to visit other resorts aside from your home? I love the idea of visiting many of the resorts in WDW.

I am sure I will come up with a few more but this is already too many I am sure. Sorry!

Parking Changes at Boardwalk Announced

*Thought this was interesting news*

*Parking Changes at BoardWalk (http://dvcnews.com/index.php/news-resorts-83/1094-parking-changes-at-boardwalk)*

Written by Tim Krasniewski | November 02, 2009

With the elimination of complimentary valet parking for *Disney Vacation Club *members, one issue that occasionally arises is overcrowding of the Self Parking lots. Disney's BoardWalk Inn and Villas is attempting to address this by rerouting resort traffic during high demand periods.

Below is an overhead view of the three BoardWalk parking lots--one is reserved for use by valet parkers and guests with handicapped permits, while the other two are available to resort guests and others visiting the area. The lot outlined in BLUE is closest to the resort itself and most frequently used by visitors. Vehicles would typically enter the blue lot at the location of the GREEN dot and exit at the YELLOW dot.
Image: http://dvcnews.com/plugins/content/multithumb/thumbs/b.480.300.16777215.0.stories.BWV_Valet1.jpg (http://dvcnews.com/plugins/content/multithumb/images/b.700.500.0.1.stories.BWV_Valet1.jpg)
During high-demand periods--particularly on weekends--the resort is being more particularly about where visitors are permitted to park. Signs located on Epcot Resorts Boulevard--visible before guests even approach the Resort Entrance (guard shack)--clearly state that the blue lot is accessible ONLY to registered guests at the BoardWalk Inn or Villas. Proof of a confirmed reservation must be provided before vehicles will be permitted to enter at this point.
Additionally, the usual entrance to the blue lot (green dot) is being barricaded (see photo.) Both incoming and outgoing traffic is being re-routed to the yellow dot. The yellow entrance is then staffed by a member of the security staff who again verifies that the guest is staying at the BoardWalk (room key or parking permit) before allowing the guest to enter the blue lot.

Other resort traffic is being routed directly to the RED lot on the other side of Epcot Resorts Blvd. This traffic would include guests with dining reservations at the BoardWalk, guests who wish to visit the BoardWalk shops, etc. Availability of this lot is strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. Security personnel are also posted at the red and ORANGE (valet) lots to ensure guests are adhering to current policies.
As stated, this procedure is only being implemented during high-demand periods when the resort expects demand for the blue lot to exceed capacity. When this process is in place, signs are clearly posted on Epcot Resorts Blvd on approach to the resort. During lower-demand periods the blue lot is available to visitors not staying at the BoardWalk and the green entrance point is open for traffic.

I just checked out the WDW website to see how much our scheduled vacation would have cost had I been paying out of pocket. I can't believe that just the room charge for our vacation would have been $6,075. That makes me so convinced that purchasing BLT points was the right thing to do. Just like they say, in a few years the vacation club more than pays for itself. In fact, if I have just 3 years at BLT like this - it pays for itself. I'm so glad I finally did it after thinking about it for years. :D

After going back and forth for over a week, I decided that we would stay at OKW for 3 nights in January for my birthday!:D
I have been trying for BLT, but there are no studios available in the whole month of January. I have tried every day for two weeks!:smirk:
So, my second choice was AKLV concierge. That wasn't working out either!
I had a choice of AKLV savannah view room for 2 nights or OKW by the Hospitality House for 3 nights.
Dh and I talked about it and he thought I was crazy for giving up another day and night! (I think he is finally getting this whole Disney thing!;))
We are booked at OKW for January 11, 12, and 13!! YAY!
I think that is great use of 27 points! :D

I called yesterday afternoon and was able to book 6 nights in a lake view 1 bedroom for end of May/beginning of June next year. I called right at the 7 month mark. There were no standard view or MK view 1 bedrooms available for my nights which was fine because I really wanted lake view anyway. I thought it would be several years before we would get the chance to stay there since that is not our home resort. Needless to say we are very excited! Charlie is even considering coming with us for a few days. :D Now to count the days until May 28th gets here...

I am blessed to work in schools and have summer off. This year we are going to go to WDW in late May. We drive. We will also be skipping some early june time by going to Georgia and Vero Beach before coming back to WDW for some more fun. My concern is how long to make that second WDW trip....How do you decide what it is going to truly cost? Points wise I think we are ok, the AP's are paid for as long as we use them by July 15th. So is Food the only factor? Just trying to decide what to do and looking for any tips....
Thanks:p

We may have to wait a couple years though since we want to save some points for some other trips. They do offer cash rates which is nice.

Just returned from BLT

We just returned from 8 nights at BLT, so I figured I would give a little report. The first night was just dh, ds and myself so we had a standard studio but requested a partial park/water view and even gave room numbers that I found on the disboards. We ended up with a 4th floor room, on the balcony if we looked to the left we could see Space Mountain and the top of the castle, almost straight ahead were the tennis courts and off to the right was the water. It was a decent view for standard points. We were dissapointed with the size of the studio, even with only being two adults and a toddler, we felt really closed in. We did not like the setup at all, how the bathroom sink and the kitchenette are in the same nook opposite each other. It felt really strange to me, to spritz my hair with spray and know that I was more than likely also spritzing the microwave!! We checked out of that studio the next morning telling each other that we did not think we could stay in one at BLT ever again. I honestly don't know how 4 guests plus 1 child in a crib could ever stay in that room. A room at All Star would have been bigger.

We then moved into a dedicated 2 bedroom villa with mk view. We had done online check in for both rooms which turned out to be a great thing. Our villa was not ready yet so since we had freshed up in the studio and sent our bags down to holding, we went over to MK for a while and had our early dinner at Tony's. I received a text that our room was ready at 12:45 PM with our room number. We requested highest floor and were granted the 12th floor which is the last floor of 2 bedroom villas before the grand villas. We entered our new room and headed straight for the wall-to-wall window in the living room to find that we had an amazing panoramic view of MK. Honestly I have to say that the view almost brought tears to my eyes, especially after my 18 month old saw the monorail go by while yelling TRUCK with his face pressed to the glass! I don't think there are words to describe how happy we were with this room, it truly was amazing. Both bedrooms were spacious, the 3rd bathroom was a huge bonus especially when we had 2 more guests stay with us for a few nights. The beds were very comfy and the comforters were so soft (just like the contemporary). We happnened to be in the room on two different nights when the Hallo-wishes took place and to see those fireworks stretch across the sky from one end of MK to the other was breathtaking.

We did ask about the size of the studio and were told that BLT has the smallest studio's out of all of the vacation club resorts. Least amount of square feet. I honestly think if they didn't box off the kitchenette and vanity, the room would feel bigger but it was like it was divided into 3 small sections. The DVC rep told us that OKW has the largest of the rooms since it was the first resort built.

We had no complaints with the 2 bedroom villa. We did have to call about the bathtub not draining properly, they had someone there later that day to fix it, there was a chunk of something in the drain from when the place was built! Funny that no one complained about the draining before us! The tub would literally fill up around your feet if you took a shower. We also had to call for toilet paper and paper towels because after the 6th night we were running out. They did trash and towel service on the 4th day.

The pool area is very nice and we even got to try out the baci ball court. The tangerine dream from the cove pool bar was yummy!

One suggestion is that if you are going to stay at BLT or the Contemporary and enjoy being able to stroll on over to MK for a dessert or "late night" snack, plan your vacation around MNSSHP and MVMCP. We found that there were really only about 3 nights during our stay when MK was open later for regular guests. We opted not to do the party since ds is only 18 months, but we have always enjoyed being able to walk over to MK for a snack, hot dog or to jump on 1 or 2 rides and we were unable to do that. It sort of stinks when you are staying right there but park hours are limited.

I have to say that we have been told the Bay Lake view is very nice and would be more than willing to try it to save on points, but once you stay with MK view, it is very hard to settle for anything else!!

Hey everyone! My dream is to be a DVC owner and I have been seriously researching DVC since we returned from WDW in early September. I have the DVC info video and I have read the Passporter e-book (Great job Cheryl!!!! very helpful!) I have also been checking out the DVC thread at some other message boards. I just need to sit down with DH and present my "sales pitch". I am the Disney addict. He enjoys it well eneough, but is not at all addicted like me. Anyway, aside from presenting the basic facts about DVC to him, I was wondering if you guys could give me any extra ammo to use in my pitch to him? Anything you think would be helpful would be great! We have stayed at POFQ and ASMU family suites. We actually did love the family suites. We are a family of 5, and the extra room was great. And we really did enjoy the resort. But I just know DVC would give us so many more options. Also, my DH is the type who likes to use the health club facilities, and has always been disappointed that he could not do this at either of the resorts we have stayed in...so that could be another selling point. Anyway, any and all suggestions would be great! TIA!:D

Just wondering if anyone has used the online system for dining reservations? I have used it for a regular reservation but not with our DVC points. I tried to log on today using my reservation number on our reservation. The website didn't recongnize my number.
I'm concered because tomorrow is when we have to make our reservations and it's also when they are transitioning to the 180 day rule. :(

Any advice would be helpful!!! :)

Hi all!

I have just figured out we will not have enough points come early Feb 2010 to book our stay for Jan 2011 (well, only enough for one night).

I know there is sometimes a discounted cash rate for DVC members....

Can anyone give me more info on this please? Is there usually a percentage etc.? How does it work?

Thanks!

After an excruciatingly long wait, we got an email today from The Timeshare Store that we passed ROFR and will soon be the proud owners of 300 points at BCV!!!!!

The contract was submitted on 9/11 (my birthday!) and 30 days came and went with no word from Disney. DH and I were going crazy!

Our sales rep emailed Disney and found out that even though TSS had sent in the contract on 9/11, Disney's ROFR clock didn't start until the current owner banked his remaining 2009 points, which we had written into the contract as a condition of the sale. He didn't get around to that until 9/29.

We weren't expecting to hear anything until next week, as our rep said that recently Disney had been taking almost the full 30 days. So it was a nice surprise to find that in my email tonight!

We should close in a couple of weeks, then we can start making plans to use those banked points at DL for our Labor Day weekend trip! :woot:

We stayed at the BLT last week (we are not DVC members) and had a great time. We were thinking about buying into the BLT and went on a tour with a DVC guide at BLT. He seemed very nice and we were ready to sign a contract but then...he couldn't provide us with a contract (not even a sample one to look at!). He said we would have to trek over to Saratoga Springs or they could to send it to us at home. Since we were on vacation and wanted to spend as much time as we could with the kids in the park, we opted to have them send it to us. Now it's more than a week later and still no contract. The wierd part is that the guide took our credit card number and SS#. We've tried leaving messages for him on his cell but he hasn't returned our calls. We tried calling DVC again but they said that we should keep trying to contact the same guy. At this point, I'm so frustrated with the process that I'm thinking about not buying at all. Any suggestions?
