Using digital camcorder for still pics?

I was looking at some digital camcorders this evening and noticed that they all function as point and shoot cameras also. Has anyone here purchased a camcorder with the thought that you will also be using it take the majority of still shots, say at the parks, so that you only have to carry one camera? This is probably a very novice type question, but my current (and hopefully soon to be gone) camcorder is the old tape type :o and these cameras I was looking at are just so darn cute!! Thanks for any feedback.

Shooting Gallery -- November 2009

Congrats to all who participated these past twelve months! I think we've all had a lot of fun snapping those photos, and I KNOW we all enjoyed looking at teh interpretation...

Now for a little more of a challenge our next theme is as follows:

*November 2009 -- Disney Inspired Theme*

Ok, so here's a little direction on this - this next month look around you: find the Disney magic/story in your home/city/town etc = you cannot use park pictures, or dress up! This is taking a theme and running with it without a totally litteral interpretation...

Think outside the box on this one, find that Disney princess in the hills... or the pixie dust in the air... take it and run! :D and good luck!

and to remind everyone of the "rules":
*1. Pictures must be shot in the month that the "mission" is given.*
*2. All camera types and photogs welcome from the uber pro to the n00b!*
*3. Submissions can come whenever in the month, and you can go back and reshoot if you so desire.*
*4. Interpretation is open. You aren't going to be stuck in a box... photography is one of those fun little ways that you can think outside a box while looking through a box! Image: http://www.passporterboards.com/images/smilies/wink.gif *
*5. HAVE FUN*

New Camera Help

I need a new digital camera. I have a great little Point and Shoot - a Sony DSC-W90 (I think).
I love it for just stuff, but I need one that will take GREAT action shots. DD Lauren is starting her second year in karate team competition, and those kids move FAST. It's also always indoors, in gymnasiums.
I'd like to stick with Sony's, just because I like being able to switch the media sticks back and forth, but I can move to another camera if need be.

Any suggestions for indoor, quick sports?
