GGRRRR I hate rude people - update in original post!

Ok- I had my great grandmothers cedar chest refininshed. Since I was moving - it was the perfect time to have it refinished. It was beaten up, scratched, etc. So I hired the guys to do it. They said it would take 6-8 weeks. No issue there. I paid them a $250.00 deposit. Two weeks ago - they finished it. I went and examined it - it loves LOVELY!! I paid the remaining 501.00 (thats right - 750!!!!). And they have delivery -- so this morning - the guy calls me to arrange delivery "this morning".

SO I wake the morning off work. I told the boss I would be there no later than noon. At 1130 - no show - no call - no nothing. I call the owner on his cell, leave a message, he calls me back. They are having problems and need to reschedule for tomorrow. NO WAY!!! I have already taken off half a day -- with no communication at all -- and you want me to do this AGAIN???

I told them that they needed to deliver it today by 430pm. The manager (not the owner I had been talking to) told me he would be here with it by 430pm. So.....

The owner told me I had nothing to complain about since delivery was free - of course it is at his convience, not mine....

I am not necessarily upset with the delivery time - I am upset by the lack of respect for my time, and the lack of communication.


****************UPDATE************************
Well he showed up, set the cedar chest at the bottom of the stairs, turned around and walked out.... when I followed him and asked about getting it up the stairs "We don't do stairs - it's not covered by our workman's comp!" I asked him how I (just me) was supposed to get it up the stairs I was told "Lady - we delivered it for free - what more do you want?" [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] So - I did get it up the stairs by myself...


THEN - oh it gets better - the shelf is not attached at ALL to the cedar chest and when I called this morning - the owner says he got it that way!!! NO SIR!!! He told me if I don't like it to file a complaint with the better business bureau - and according to his shop manager - people do this all the time - he doesn't care!!! SO - now the manager is going to try and come to my house Friday afternoon to see if he can reattach the shelving unit to the cedar chest and "only charge me $20 bucks or so" -- but what other option do I have? I don't know didly about carpentry!!!

I'd be ticked as well. I can't imagine that they'd think it was ok to not even CALL! After you've already given them $750? They should remember that negative reviews spread like wildfire. Let us know when it comes in!

Wow! What bad customer service.. I'll bet he loses a lot of customers that way...I would remind him of the old adage "The customer is always right" AND word of mouth is best advertising.. you won't be recomending him etc...

you have every right to be mad.. free delivery is NOT at his convenience.. he set up a time he should abide by it!!

If you have to take off work to wait, then the delivery certainly was not free!!!! I would be really upset. No matter how well they did the job, the delivery is the last thing you'll remember.

Free delivery is a service to the customer not the manager/owner. Bad, bad business! They'll be lucky to get any return business.

The owner feels that since it's free delivery, he can make an "oopsie" on his part. Taking time off work is not "free" for you! I agree that it was inconsiderate.
