The things we dread the most

are sometimes the best things for us.
Grandma (mom's mom) has always DREADED being in any sort of adult care facility (nursing home, etc.) She and Mom live together and Grandma has been getting progressively worse (alzheimers, takes too many of her pills or not enough, a couple of weeks ago she fell and spent the night on the floor until Mom got home from work - night shift at the hospital)
So, Sis and I tell Mom that Grandma HAS to go to adult day care, or a home, period, no arguing (she wasn't going to either, she agreed) We all decided this had to be done no matter what Grandma said.
Well, she started Adult Day Care at a retirement community this week. She will go 2 days a week, and Mom will have an in home nurse on the NIGHT Mom works. Grandma was lucid today, and actually said she likes the day care (better than sitting around at home and doing nothing).
Now, if I can just get a Grand-daughter's Day (they do have that, don't they) craft item with Love, Grandma on it, I'll be thrilled.

I'm glad she's enjoying adult daycare. It's better that being bored all day.

I'm happy she's enjoying it. It must be a relief to everyone not to have to worry all the time.

Re: The things we dread the most

My grandparents had to move to a Assited living home about 4 years ago. They didn't want to buy my their large home was just too much to clean. It was the house my grandfather was BORN in...so it was heartbreaking when we had to go through it and then sell the home. To this day I still can't go back there! I am sure you grandmother will be fine...but it is still hard.

Dawn, you hit the nail on the head - it's nice to know someone is there to take care of her, if she needs it.

And, to clarify, she is only in day-care - mom drops her off in the Am, and picks her up in the PM.
