| Re: Anxiety M-R-I. Nuff said. Tina, I know exactly how you feel. I used to get the same sensation when I ate in public alone, too. Purposeful deep breathing and visualizing something that makes me deeply, emotionally happy helps...I tend to think of somewhere in WDW (I visited the whole dang park during my MRI! | Re: Anxiety I know what you mean about David Blaine, I just couldn't think about being underwater for a week. I know I whine a lot about my stepmother, but her behaviour and influence on my life triggered many severe anxiety attacks back in my teens and early twenties. I used to take clonazepam for it, but I taught myself to recognize the signs and learned the breathing techniques, etc, and control them before they control me. It wasn't easy though....it used to be that even reading about them would send me into one. The fact that I'm no longer financially dependent on my parents and they live several hundred miles away kinda helps too. Hope you feel better soon, I don't have severe claustrophobia but I can sympathize with how it feels....I can't watch those three people in Superman when they're stuck in that glass thing floating through space. | Re: Anxiety Tina,
I had some issues with anxiety that started about five years ago, and now I feel like I am able to control those feelings. It sounds stupid, but I get an anxiety attack if I feel nauseus because I'm so afraid to throw up. (Everyone has their own triggers.) It was scary at first because you feel scared and nervous and you don't really know why, which makes it so much worse. Someone at work let me borrow the Attacking Anxiety program (you may have seen the infomercial). The biggest thing for me was once I was able to realize what was triggering the anxiety, I was able to control it and not let it make me have a full blown panic attack. Now that I understand that I have very few anxiety attacks. And also when you realize how common anxiety really is, it is MUCH easier to deal with!! So if you are thinking about something that might make you nervous like the David Blaine stunt, force yourself to realize that it is making you uncomfortable and that just because someone else is in a situation like that, you're not going to let it affect your daily life. I hope that all made some sense and helped a little! |
